  • Our Easter tour with Melbourne Bicycle Touring Club to the Otway Ranges and the Great Ocean Road in April 2024. We departed Colac and rode via Gellibrand, Beech Forest and Apollo Bay to Bimbi Park at Cape Otway. Then we rode on through Johanna Beach to Princetown and on to Port Campbell. Wonderful weather with a series of great bush tracks in very quiet settings mainly.

Glad you survived the apple tree. What's the Gt Ocean Rd like along the coast like, looks scenic but lots of traffic, barriers and narrow road? Looking at cycling that area next year.

This was Easter so one of the busiest times with great weather. Summer traffic can be hectic, but mainly on weekends. Ride it mid-week and you will love it. Traffic is generally tourists traveling at 60-70kmh, not in a mad rush.
The barriers were only from shorter term bridge-works; this will end. If you ride it in summer (Nov-April) it is definitely best ridden from east to west. People who have never ridden it will carry on about the westerlies, but along the coast in these months the most common winds are south-easterlies.

@@randelscyclevlogperthwa7342 oh that really narrow barrier on the Beechy Trail? Yes, those are a royal PITA, but you will always get through, even with a loaded touring bike. Only one or two we faced.
