I'm new to learning about Norse Mythology. I have been looking into it for a couple months. I have been learning the history and learning the runes. I would like to travel to Iceland and Norway to learn more about the old culture.

hate to say it, the music is lovely but still ,it does not sound nordic to me.. I sounds like although it has some nordic insperation the sound is from farther east. I'd say this has a more eastern european sound to it than actual nordic (norwegian ,swedish, danish , finnish). Still it's truly magic to listen to.

Didn't know Celtic and Gaelic were considered distinct musical styles. If so, that's interesting to learn.

Could be. I usually associate Celtic with traditional Irish, Scottish music, as I believe most people do. But, if I'm not mistaken, I think Celtic music should in theory cover a broader swath of Europe than the north western region of the continent. All a matter of perspective, I suppose.
+William Distracted I guess you're right. But it's all amazing music.
There are distinctions, but I believe there's a fair bit of crossover too. It would probably take a good amount of knowledge of that part of Northern Europe to say for certain what all the differences and similarities are.
There's term called Fennoscandian which I think is intended to cover both countries, or most of both countries. Presumably, most of the historic, as well as genetic, crossover between the two countries is focused on Sweden's Eastern border with Finland's Western border.
Something worth noting is that persons with Finnish ancestry (of which I'm one), have an identifiable genetic signature (for lack of a better term), which can help to distinguish them from people from Sweden. In the case of Scandinavia, many people with British ancestry will show a significant percentage of Scandinavian in their genetic ethnicity results (think Viking era settlers, etc.). But that doesn't necessarily mean someone has a Swedish ancestor within the last handful of generations.
I just had an experience listening to this my dear odon what a ride... I am a proud Irish man of Scandinavian ancestry.. Living in Ireland we are still living with their influences everywhere around us,

what I love about this music is it speaks to the soul. sure a english translation would be nice but part of me feels that taking the song out of its native language would only take away at least in part, the power of this song. thanks for sharing such beautiful music.
When I see a translation of a song by someone such as this, or Faun, or Nolwenn Leroy, it's just nice to know what they're singing about. I agree that usually a song sounds better in the language in which it is written.

wow, I don't have the words to truly describe this. I don't know why but it brought a tear to my eye and relaxed me more than other music has ever done. I love music like this! Every time I come across listening to the music, especially the vocals, I feel at peace, and it makes me want to return home to the North. Even though I don't have any Nordic heritage/ancestry. Can't wait to travel there to be honest.

I was drinking a beer a few months ago and some words popped into my head and I could not stop writing. I wrote Skal in 20 minutes and have written 5 more bad ass Viking Rock songs since, one the lyrics in 10 minutes. This music here is cool and is very inspirational. Now, I drink beer and listen to my songs as well as these talented people. Our band will be writing a lot of Viking songs thanks to people like these.

Agreed! I'm adopted and was only told I'm Norwegian growing up. I never learned about the culture until I became an adult. This music touches a part of me like nothing else in my life has and I now feel a connection to my heritage that I never did before.

This song was suggested to me in a youtube playlist of yggdrasil, Herr Mannelig, Faun and Slavic drums and I am SO glad it was. I listened to it over and over and I sent it to my boyfriend and we both just sent songs back and forth to each other. Going deeper and finding more we liked.
