When you apply a high pass filter to an effect does that mean that the effect will act on the higher frequencies more profoundly or that more of the higher frequencies will pass through unaffected? (Or am I missing the point altogether?)
Close, what putting a high pass filter does on the reverb and delay is that it takes the wet signal (just the fx output) and it carves away the low frequencies, thereby cleaning up the output sound of the wet fx to just focus on the higher frequencies so that it does not clash with the dry sound of the synth, but still does with the effect is "supposed to do" to the sound. Hope that helps!
This is really helpful as I get to know the Summit. Just trying to understand: You ended up turning off osc 2 as you felt it wasn't needed, but left the osc diverge in place. So osc 2 is still some kind of modulator, but in of itself is not audible? I find that confusing since what I am expecting to hear would be divergence between two audible sounds. . .
Good question! You are making a slight mix up with OSC Diverge and OSC Drift - both available on Summit. Drift makes the pitches vary between the different oscillators on the same synth voice (each of the 16 of them), whereas Diverge makes the pitches vary between each of the 16 different voices, but doesn't do anything to the relationship of the oscs within each single voice. So, even though I left on both Diverge and Drift, since we only used 1 OSC per voice, only Diverge is doing anything to the sound. Let me know if that clarifies!
@@MilesAwayOfficial perfectly clarifies thanks. And I think you did actually make that distinction between drift/diverge in the video now that I think about it. Thanks!
Thanks! For Hardware, I recommend Novation Peak or Summit as an all-rounder, for software, Diva. If you don't mind getting a mono synth I'd also recommend Korg Monologue or Sub Phatty as they are so logically laid out.
After some time...do you still love the Summit or do you miss something? I heard Pads done with an Prophet 12 and i really miss that "ultra-spacey and futuristic sound" on the Summit.
My pleasure! Welcome :) yes I am very happy with the Summit, but I would make sure you understand you are getting a jack of all trades and sacrificing some instant sound character in the process. This synth can do literally anything but it's not as easy to get amazing sounds out of it as something like the Matriarch, Prologue, OB6 etc.
yes absolutely! on the Summit i personally find you get the best sounds when you don't turn the OSCs past 50%, and then you use overdrive and distortion to subtly get your level where you need it to be. Sounds less smushed.
@@MilesAwayOfficial Great, thanks for the tip! Maybe I overlooked it all in the manual, but I haven’t found any documentation from Novation regarding gain staging settings.
Please do this for the Matriarch. Seems like nobody in all of UA-cam wants to do it.. Eye did my best to follow along but definitely got lost when your started using features the Matriarch either doesn't have or isn't called the same thing or used in the same way.. again please do this for the Matriarch. Eye would love to get some better tones from it and to know what Eye'm actually doing
super late reply but I ended up having to sell the Matriarch, then I recently rebought it/ So a new Matriarch video is coming, stay tuned @@mackmccord3743
A great demonstration of a great instrument. Thanks
This is an excellent tutorial man! So much knowledge packed in those 30 minutes...
Thanks so much!
Great pad and great tutorial!

Nice synth! Rly like to learn new sound design tricks!
Thx for watching!

Thanks my dude!

Bro i loved ur sound design part 1 and part 2 do moreeeee & which synth do u suggest like an all rounder

Awesome, first you convinced me to buy a Summit... now you've taught me me make a pad that almost summoned 4 angels and a unicorn. Thanks dude.
Haha thank you!
Thank you very much for your insights. The Summit does sound amazing!
Thanks for watching!
the screen is so dark I cant see what the actual knob positions are.

Honestly, it’s good but not my top synth. It gets less play time now that I have an OB6 + reverb pedal, which to me is the king of pads
Interesting to learn 🎵
Thanks Frazer! hope it helped
Hi MilesAway, my exams will be over next week, so I'll watch it later. You're Best🔥
Also, i was working on a beat for a month and i will continue it after my exams, when i will be done, i will upload it's link on the comments
Awesome! Good luck on your exams and thx for watching :)
learn soo much , thanks for the awesome video man~
my pleasure! welcome to the channel! :)
Awesome information! Thank you so much for the excellent video 📹. Very well done 👏! Mark Bensette Aux Bois 🇨🇦.
Glad you enjoyed it! I post new synth and gear videos every week :)
Thanks, very well explained. Are you happy with your synth? I am just in the decision process

Some good info, but I wish there was more light shining on the keyboard, as I can't always see which dials are being used.
Hey - check out my newer videos! My filming quality has improved a ton since then :) I have tons of sound design and synth content.
Miles do you know how i can control the vca of the summit with bitwig for example?
*for trance gate
Should be able to send and receive Midi CC over usb midi! Then make an automation clip. That's how I do it.
Miles, regarding gain staging on the Summit, do the Osc levels matter?
yes absolutely! on the Summit i personally find you get the best sounds when you don't turn the OSCs past 50%, and then you use overdrive and distortion to subtly get your level where you need it to be. Sounds less smushed.

Does my very own Novation Summit come with my subscription to your channel? Great stuff, learning a lot here. Keep going and thanks!
Thanks 😊
