It’s a major construction project, aimed at doubling the width of the Suez Canal and deepening its main waterway. 500 million cubic meters of sand and soil have already been transported from all over the world. Using unprecedented 3D images, we reveal how the canal will be widened. We also look back to the original construction, back in 1859, to show how it first came to be built.

The Suez Canal transformed the world forever. Now, again, widening it is a major construction project, aimed at doubling the width and deepening its main waterway.
500 million cubic meters of sand and soil have already been transported from all over the world. Using unprecedented 3D images, we reveal how the canal will be widened. We also look
back to the original construction, back in 1859, to show how it first came to be built.
Will the melting of the Arctic affect this ?
As for the problem of crossing the ever evolving Suez Canal I can see the solution as being a large ferry suitable for vehicles with the outer docks for the ferry being recessed into the banks to avoid causing canal traffic obstuction. Any bridge built would become too short as the canal is widened and any tunnel underneath the Suez Canal would eventualy hinder the deepening of the canal.
When do you think Egypt will repay those who built the canal in the first place. With interest and adjusted for inflation plus an amount for damages i.e. loss of income due to Nasser Nationalising the canal?
Just thought I’d mention it lol
Wait are you saying that 500 million cubic meters of sand and soil was brought to the Suez from all over the world?
Or do you mean to say what was said in the video which is that dredges were brought in from all over the world to move the 500 million cubic meters of sand and soil from the new canal section?
@@prepperjonpnw6482 Egypt has purchased dredgers, the most modern in the world and the largest, from Holland and Belgium to deepen and dig a parallel canal
My grand grandpa died while digging the canal project, tbh a lot of Egyptian workers died to make it come true, God bless their soul.
As an Egyptian im stunned by the amount of engineering genius put into this project throughout its history and after ive watched this exceptional documentary….i feel extremely proud of every free “unknown” Egyptian that participated and lost their lives for this world changing project to come to life those are the true unsung heroes that deserve honoring …
They killing the earth don’t be proud of it
Also forced peasant labor is a real concern. Did these men get paid?
@@FionaKumariCampbell Who cares, it was many years ago and they are all dead.
@@FionaKumariCampbell yes they were paid by the original builders of the canal.
What about the original builders of the canal? I would say that everyone who was involved with the canal from the design engineers to the lowest peasant with a shovel to those who secured financing for it to be built to all of the families (wives and children) who went long periods without seeing their husband/father
while they were away working on it. There were so many people involved it’s difficult to name them all I would even include the very first person to dream of this canal. But definitely a big thank you to all of the nameless labourers who toiled for long endless days doing back breaking work moving what must have seemed like never ending piles of earth. All throughout history on many many large projects there were always the lowly labourers doing 90% of the work usually for low wages if they were even paid, quite a few were slaves. Thank goodness for mechanical engineers who designed and built all of the fantastic machines we have now.
Cheers
Wow, living in the Americas we only think about the feats of the Panama Canal. For me this was a huge eye opener.
Merry Christmas and especially happy new year 🎉 I wish to all of you a successful and safe 2022 folks 🥳
Thank you Paws 🐾 same to you! Stay safe!
And to you and yours😉🥳

You likewise! Happy New Year!
Same to you, good luck with the new year 🥳
I was very impressed to learn that 80% of the project was financed by the generosity of the Egyptian population, a true act of patriotism!
Obviously ? They bought shares or bonds which made / make huge profits. An ideal semi socialist idea ?. Ferdinand de Lesseps's replication in France for Panama (folie ?) bankrupted the entire country (Gvt, banks, investors alike)
because Suez Canal means a lot for Egyptians
@@eugenio1542 It's not socialist, it's capitalism done on a massive scale. The people are investing money in government bonds that will go towards building the canal, which will pay them back in the long term when everyone around the world uses that canal. Each ship 800,000$ like said in the documentary.
It would be socialist if everyone got paid, but in this case it's only people that bought bonds getting paid. So I guess it's right of you to call it semi socialist. Definitely better than bankrupting the whole country that's for sure.

Extremely interesting documentary, but the sound cuts out unexpectedly.
As a South African 🇿🇦 I’m happy to know that the project is funded mainly by Egypt 🇪🇬 . Proudly African 👌

Damm!! It was brutal how people were forced in Egypt to provide Hard Labour for the construction of the Canal in the 80s without Advanced Machinery but still they found a way !!

Great share. Interesting to watch. Keep up the good work 👍
Wow good discovery over years of inventions and technological impacts in Egypt
Very Good documentary. I just like these
From 23:54, you have a great example of the way biology anticipates technology. The device essentially is an artificial mouth and gullet, complete with teeth and saliva. From 25:09 and from 26:12, also from 26:55 you then can see how the digestive system of an animal is imitated also at its other end, after the sand has been stored in the stomach of a ship. So altogether you have a huge artificial animal eating its way through the ground.
Nice. I watched another documentary concentrating mainly on the initial construction. This was a great cover from begging to current

Oowwhh.. I am proud to connect our incredible country ❤ INDIA 🇮🇳.
आपका धर्म क्या है?
Panama took 30 yrs to build, Suez took 10 yrs to build, the harsh environment of the Panama made that one alot harder to make!~
Nice for such a nice wonderful journey.
How about interviewing some working folks who actually are building. This is such a pet peeve . You always show the bosses who stand around and point then take glory for building things. 👷♂️ the workers are the ones who should receive the credit
Without the ''bosses'' the workers wouldn't have a clue what to do.
@@tomgunn8004 okay and then who would build it ? Teamwork makes the dream work that's my point but they neglect to showcase the builders who are intrical to the completion of any project . I never said bosses weren't necessary. Where did you read that . I said they always focus on them and it would be nice for a change to hear from a workers perspective. Not a suit .
😄so true. Also the wicked side in control at that

REST IN PEACE our Egyptian martyrs :
-for our martyrs who lost their lives while digging it by their "hands'' (more than120 thousand Egyptians)

the Suez Canal means a lot for The Egyptian Nation
🙏
yes as a Brit, it was totally wrong of the Brits to deny the Egyptians of their rights to charge for their own waterway.
HAHA LOL! Those mini shipping containers used for canal testing are hilarious with the guys in them!

A totally brilliant documentary. A story very well and comprehensively told. How disappointing that the adverts eat into its integrity with the sheer quantity and frequency of these ads. I suspect somebody is being greedy at the expense of the viewer.

Love from Nepal 🥰❤️❤️
Hello from Oregon USA 🥰😉😉
If this was made in 2021 after the ever given ran aground they'd be stressing even more about the canal and how important it is.

Great & Interesting , Proud For French Engineers For their Work & Pray For People who Lost their Life 🇫🇷🗼
Digging a straight canal doesn't require a genius engineer!
As a matter of fact thousands of years ago Egyptians dug a canal between the red Sea and the Nile so it wasn't something new
the people who dug the canal were slave laborers. tens of thousands died. you're proud of that? 🤦

What an amazing documentary. Wonder if they found any archeological remnants during the digs?
They may have been so but they didn't say anything 😏🙄😶
Probably Biblical but as usual the Antichrist hides such finds.
they were probably ordered not to report anything found to keep construction moving!

While I like this documentary, I must say that these marvels are responsible for the natural destructions we have been witnessing since the past few decades.
Happy new year

The section with the mini-ships reminded me extremely of The Naked Gun (I think it was 2 1/2).
I heard that the difference in elevation of the Lake within if encountered will give way a Flooding Compartment of the Suez Canal...
Happy New year 🇮🇳👍
Wee 'massive' error in narration...
The first Suez Canal was built about 4000 years ago.
It was called: the Canal of the Pharaohs, also called the Ancient Suez Canal or Necho's Canal.
The Suez built over 100 years ago was Not the first.
A greatly different route, the Egyptians diverted one of the mouths of the Nile to the Red sea over a much shorter distance. One had to go up the Nile to get to the cutoff. It was last used around 767 AD.

The Suez and Panama canals are the 2 biggest manmade "shortcuts" when it comes to naval travle.
The French success with the Suez Canal was the cause of the French failure with the Panama Canal. The French thought they could make a sea-level Panama Canal. They were wrong.
Did you know the first canal for connecting to Mediterranean sea to the red sea was made by the Persian king's order Darius the Great some 2500 years ago? It didnt go all the way through to the red sea but some transport had to be done over the dry land.

I wonder if any of the ships shown were the Evergiven prior to its oops , just goes to show even with everything they have done and train for there are still things that can happen with no warning or hint of a problem till it happens the first time.
It was done on purpose. you just have to look at those who profit from it. buy something from the other side of the planet today and you have to pay double and tripple the price that you would've paid before the oopsie

We should build a ship as big as the planet so we wouldn't have to build a bigger canal.
evergreen life
Difficult to follow as it jumps around between the original project and a recent expansion. Needs more maps
and what is a jettison ? I didn't understand that part at all.
😮😮If they constructed this Suez canal waterway Africa couldn't have suffer from Colonialism 😮😮For example those who settled in the Cape , South Africa 😮😮
I imagine the working conditions of workers and the forced labour
Women should cover themselves let them cover themselves God willing
They at one time started and went about halfway building a cross barge canal across Florida from the Gulf to the Atlantic but the environmentalists fought and stopped it from being built. I saw where it ended just east of Ocala. Had it been finished some of today's supply chain might have been avoided?
I’m no tree hugger environmentalist but digging a canal across Florida ? Is that a joke ? 🤣 Florida isn’t that hard to sail around man it’s not Africa 😂
