It’s ironic that Hendrick deciding to let go of a driver for controversy reasons resulted in that driver going on a big winning streak (Kyle Busch 2008), and Hendrick hiring a driver who was let go from another team for controversy reasons resulted in the driver going on a big winning streak too (Kyle Larson 2021).
Welp this just changed the Bubba Wallace. I have nowhere else to post but I’ll also say this must be a new record. 3 races this weekend and all 3 had first time winners.
Back in the days of Papyrus' NASCAR Racing 3, I used to drive a #96 Wendy's car. I also had a #0 Dunkin' Donuts car, where the 0 was shaped like a chocolate donut.
McDonalds had unfortunate timing for a number of years. They sponsored Bill Elliott from 1995-2000, but Bill didn’t win during those years. When Bill shut down his own team to drive for Evernham, he won there but Dodge Dealers was his sponsor. McDonalds had moved to Andy Houston who struggled in 2001. Then, they end up sponsoring Jamie McMurray at Ganassi but they weren’t on the car for any of the races he won there. It was always Bass Pro Shops that he won with. Then they go to Kyle Larson but Target or Credit One were always on the car when he won. Then they choose to not sponsor him anymore after last year and he’s been on a huge winning streak this year. Looks like they finally had good enough timing this weekend to win one with Bubba Wallace, though.
McDonald's has been my favorite fast food in NASCAR since my mom always buy Sunday Afternoon Snacks. I'm so shocked about the Misfortunate Legacy of McDonald's NASCAR Sponsorship
I almost forgot Mickey D's did sponsor Dale Earnhardt and he did win races and two Cup Championships for them in 93 and 94! Thanks for showing that clip at the end @NRF. Of course McDonald's was a secondary sponsor of Dale's but you can't blame MD's for diversifying sponsoring cars, the only way they could get a return on investment in the 90's was throwing the #3 team a few dollars!
It's been a little over 2 years since this video was posted so I'm curious, was Bubba's win at Talladega the first for McDonalds since Jimmy Spencer? I don't recall who all has won in the last two and a half seasons but I'm more excited for McDonalds than I am for team 23X1.
Wow. McDonald's sponsorship in NASCAR is a curse. Never put that one together. Also, I'm a little upset that Jimmy Spencer is the guy that got Micky D's it's 2 wins. But I guess it's nice he was able to do something right.
Mr. Excitement Jimmy Spencer was a huge dude, he probably got across the finish line for the checkered flag for the win in order to get that free Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese waiting in victory lane!
The entire NASCAR history of the 24 outside of Jeff Gordon is pretty depressing. Hendrick's 25 is an excellent subject. Target outside of the couple of Larson wins was pretty down. CAT has had a rough go. Motorcraft has had few wins very far between. Blaney 1, Bayne 1, Sadler 1 then I think you have to go back to Geoff Bodine? Yeah, that's a good one. That's just a few I can recall off the top of my head. Good video, it still shows the point of having no victory lane level success for over 2 decades which would surprise many folks I believe.
NASCAR's Best Drivers in the McDonald's Car: Jimmy Spencer Tyler Reddick Bubba Wallace Jamie McMurray Bill Elliott Kyle Larson Kasey Kahne Matt Kenseth Elliott Sadler Ross Chastain Reed Sorenson Hut Stricklin Regan Smith Andy Houston
Its seems like having McDonalds as a sponsor is a jinx. But look at the one positive of having them as a sponsor, they do put out a lot of cool paint schemes for the cars!
Fun Fact: A McDonald's car was nearby Jeff Gordon during his first career win in the 1994 Coca-Cola 600 and his 93rd and final career win in the 2015 Goody's Headache Relief Shot 500 at Martinsville
Not gonna lie, this partnership provided some of my favourite happymeal toys…. Thats how i came upon this video. I was searching for the nostalgia. I have memories of sitting in the back of my dads car, breakfast menu hours were about to end, so we got breakfast (that broke my happymeal seeking heart lol) BUT my dad actually knew the guy working the drive thru that morning, and he saw me in the back seat and gave me a toy with my meal anyhow. It was one of the 2000 hotwheels nascar toys. I remember sitting in the back seat, and putting the stickers on the toy car as straight as my shakey little hands could in a moving car. But that added to the charm of it. Kids dont get toys that require you to put the stickers on it anymore. Now its all about iphones and stuff. Kids dont play with their happymeal toys after they get home. We did. That car went with the rest of the hot wheels. The little black and red racer with crooked stickers and mcdonalds sponsorship. Jesus, i miss those days so much. Back when my dad was the coolest, and Saturday mornings were special.
One of the legends has it that both of Jimmy Spencer's wins were with a big motor that was overlooked in an attempt to keep McDonalds in NASCAR. And I always forget that Elliott never won with this own team, I always seem to remember a win or two that never happened
they went to victory lane 4 times as an associate sponsor with Jamie. its not like the mcdonalds logo hasn't been in victory Lane since jimmy Spenser....
Hahahahahaha "he made restrictor plate races his play place"! Now that was clever dude. Btw, how sick would it be if they created a dark, grim version of Ronald McDonald and used that as their livery? Sort of like the joker from the Batman universe but not as brutal. I could see something like a gravedigger style but more red and yellow
Susan Loughlin I know that when they started with the armed forces cars. It was a program/sponsorship started by RJ Reynolds (🐫 Camel Cigarettes and others) in support of the armed forces. They probably have other corporations funding them now
(Great video NRF) As a Bill Elliott fan I certainly remember that long drought that both him and McDonald's experienced. The only consolation would be a few pole award wins. It's odd how McDonald's hasn't done well in NASCAR. They have seen success in other forms of motorsport. In the NHRA they won races and championship in all three top classes which would be funny car (Cruz Pedragon), top fuel (Corey McClenathan), and pro stock (Jim Yates). Those last two were Joe Gibbs stable racing machines. Apparently they're just McStriken in NASCAR.
The most ironic thing is that the McDonald's car lost to a red car in both Bristol races that were featured in this video with Carl Edwards's Office Depot car in 2009 and Kyle Busch's Skittles car in 2018
I have thought about this before. I think I found one single race ever that McDonald's won a race. Edit: I guess it was 2. I knew it was with Jimmy Spencer, though.
Wanna hear some irony? The ad for this video that came up for me was for Wendy's.

Mine was burger king
Mine was Carl's Jr. Fruit loops

McDonald’s has a new transcendent talent in Kyle Larson
Also Kyle Larson: *hard r*
He’s racist and a racer 😎
It’s ironic that Hendrick deciding to let go of a driver for controversy reasons resulted in that driver going on a big winning streak (Kyle Busch 2008), and Hendrick hiring a driver who was let go from another team for controversy reasons resulted in the driver going on a big winning streak too (Kyle Larson 2021).
This video def needs an update. From Larson's downfall to the struggles of Kenseth and Chastian to now Bubby finally being the man to break the curse.
This is McDepressing

This is a McComment. Haha, I'm funny, I added Mc before a word because it's a video about McDonald's.

We need more fast food sponsors in NASCAR. Looking at you, Wendy’s.
Dunkin' Donuts.
How about Subway?...... Oh wait..........
we have KFC kinda And McDonalds we need burger king back
Nathan Stroud damn those were badass.
Back in the days of Papyrus' NASCAR Racing 3, I used to drive a #96 Wendy's car. I also had a #0 Dunkin' Donuts car, where the 0 was shaped like a chocolate donut.
Back after Bubba broke the McFortunate Legacy!
Mcdonalds reappeared briefly with Bill Elliot again in 2004 on the #98.
And was a sponsor on the #35 in the Busch series between 2005-2007
They were also with Bill on the #91 in 2005. Ironically, he was sponsored by Burger King in 2006.
The curse has ended!!! Congratulations Bubba Wallace 🔥
Streak is over, Wallace just won at Talladega with the sponsor
So if all 40 cars on the field were sponsored by McDonald's, would that mean they would all DNF?
McDonalds had unfortunate timing for a number of years. They sponsored Bill Elliott from 1995-2000, but Bill didn’t win during those years. When Bill shut down his own team to drive for Evernham, he won there but Dodge Dealers was his sponsor. McDonalds had moved to Andy Houston who struggled in 2001.

McDonald's just won a NASCAR Cup Series race! I repeat, Bubba Wallace just got his first career win!

Reddick has just won Michigan in a McCar.
The curse is over
Seems like McDonalds has had a *Whopper* of a problem in Nascar these past years
Wait
McDonald's finally won!
After watching this I have a craving for McDonald's
I believe McDonalds first sponsorship was in the early 1980s with Kirk Shelmerdine driving Jimmy Means #52 at Talladega if I recall correctly.
Texas World Speedway in 1981 for RCR's #8 car
Every damn Mc pun earns you more respect from me

reminds me with Mark almost winning the '07 Daytona 500, Joe Nemechek I believe has the one lonely win for Army
