This song was on the radio ALL THE TIME, but not until they burst on the scene on this show, did we know they were a NATIVE band!! It was shocking, and WONDERFUL!!! This song goes on and on and on, and no one EVER gets tired of it!!
This is from the TV show, “The Midnight Special”. I was 17 years old in 1976 and I never missed the show. We did not have internet or cable tv, no UA-cam or MTV. We had American Bandstand and Soul Train on TV in the afternoon and The Midnight Special on at night on the weekend. Live music and comedians. I remember watching this one back then. Great music, great time to be a teenager😁
Thank God for Midnight Special a perfect record of the 70's, I remember this performance and loved it, My friend Debbie taught school at the Navajo Indian Reservation in Gallup, New Mexico, one time when I visited we went to a Indian Poo Woo Celebration, the dancing and singing was an amazing experience. ✌️Peace ☮️ and Love❤️ your 70 year old forever Young Hippie Gary😊 Great Reaction👍
This song by REDBONE was on the radio everyday, all day, back in the 70's, when I was a kid. It was a HUGE hit. It was a one hit wonder but nonetheless we couldn't get enough of it and still sounds just as good today as it did then. Glad you two discovered it's origins and that it triggered memories, as it does for all of us 70's kids. The song was used in a couple of movies, tv shows and commercials over the years. Most recently "Guardians of the Galaxy".
Redbone is the only funk rock band made up of all Mexican & Native American heritage members. This was reflected in their songs, stage costumes & album art. "Come & Get Your Love" was their biggest hit in 1974. This song was used in the 2014 movie "Guardians Of The Galaxy". But they had some other songs such as "We Were All Wounded At Wounded Knee", "The Witch Queen Of New Orleans", "Wovoka", "Maggie" etc.
They called themselves Redbone precisely because they are of mixed breeds (Mexican, Native American) and the term Redbone is used to denote this. It is used all over the South in America but the races usually associated with the term differ depending on region. If you ever saw the Marvel movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, it was featured in it, so that may be where you've heard it before. If you lived in The States, you would also have heard it in various commercials. Now, for other songs, probably their other best known song is Witch Queen of New Orleans ... a GREAT song, especially for this time of year. However, there's a groovy/funky little number called, Maggie, and another, which sounds a bit more like Native American music called, Wovoka.
These guys had a few songs that made you want to dance. Talking about songs that really evoke emotion, perhaps you 2 would enjoy "Me and Mrs. Jones" by Billy Paul 1973. I was only 17 but this song made me cry every time I heard it. (the strings alone are magic).
Heard this great song in a Chevy commercial last year during an NFL game. I immediately Googled it to find out who sang it. As you two said, VERY catchy. 👏
You might be interested to know that, although he wasn't in Redbone, Jesse Ed Davis was a Native American guitarist who played the opening guitar solo on Jackson Browne's 1972 hit song "Doctor My Eyes. He was phenomenal and played with many other big, well-known, names in rock and roll.
Jesse Ed Davis' album "Keep Me Comin'" is great! It's probably available on all the steaming services. There's a 14 minute interview with Jesse Ed Davis on the bonus version, well worth listening to. Another great Native rocker is Grant-Lee Phillips, both with the group Grant Lee Buffalo and his solo work.
I saw them in concert 21 Jan 1972 in Williamsburg, Virginia. They rocked the house! This song has become iconic for the early 1970s. It's been used many many times in film and television. I bought all their albums in those years. I loved their music. I think everyone has heard this song at some point in time because it's been included so often in movie sound tracks.
I'm surprised that there are only reactions to this song by Red Bone on UA-cam. The band made several good songs in the 1970s. "We Were All Woonded at Woonded Knee" was a Native American theme and "The Wich Queen Of New Orleans" is also very good.
Hi you 2 beautiful people❤I really love your channel. I watched your reaction to HOLDING BACK THE YEARS and I have to tell you about his performance at the Montreux Jazz festival in 1992. It is the best performance he ever did. He is amazing live.❤
The song been in many ads and movies Watch Brule, The Star People Message for all of Humanity" I watch the show when I could, had like 9 different acts with a guess host, plus Wolf Man Jack.
Thank you Gene (Jean)???....and A&D for this one. The "costume" the dancer was wearing at the beginning is called regalia, just thought I would share that with you 😉 Such a great classic. So many talented, underrated Native Americans out there. Thanks for showcasing them 🎶🎵💚
“Should have been a Cowboy, should have learned to roap, and ride. Riding my pony in a cattle drive, with a six gun on my side!” If ya don’t want to be a Cowboy, your head ain’t right. 👍
Red Bone were Natives Indians but not sure what country and the dance in the beginning was a Native dance for blessing for he crowed and the band that the show has no problems
it is so just so good! i will never forget it! you gotta give your woman love! don't be shy! she wants it to! when you have a connection it is all good!
As has been mentioned in this thread, if you saw Guardians of the Galaxy, it played a prominent role in the movie. Thank you for your reactions. I think they are truly as sincere as anything on the web. I'm hoping you react to some Grateful Dead soon. Considering your selections thus far, I'm thinking you may enjoy the depth of Ripple. ua-cam.com/video/QmMjY6tXaEo/v-deo.html&pp=ygUGcmlwcGxl

This song was hot! We still dance to it. We loved the native dance and their indigenous gear.
😂Did he say he would sing this to you tonight? You both are my favorite reaction couples. Good people, good hearts 💕
😊This song was also in one of my favorite movies, with Kevin Costner, The Postman. The townspeople were sitting around a campfire singing it.❤
Thanks!

The song was banned by many radio stations throughout the U.S. for its' direct lyrics to sex. I was a discjockey at the time.
Where? It was the #4 or 5 song the year it was released.
Not where I lived. I didn't hear any direct lyrics about sex. Censureship hardly existed when I grew up in the 60's and 70's (thank God).
Didn't Roger Daltrey do a cover of this?
Different song, similar title. Russ Ballard wrote Daltry’s song.
At the end of the song when he’s not really singing words is called scatting.

Due to the blatant sexual lyrics, this song was banned from many U.S. radio stations.
