i've got the Victory Amp Rk50, a CS Tele, a Revstar, an Ox amp and i sound nothing like you. i did notice we use a different pick so i'm putting it down to that.
lol funny stuff! Btw, I feel your pain.
LMAO we all feel your pain
Yep, it always gets down to The pick! Definitely! Btw, I’ve noticed, getting the same pick doesn’t help either, so you should consider asking Chris for His particular pick as it’s already been carved down to That magic Angle! That should work for sure!
A purple pick makes all the difference...
Are you wearing a submariner? The extra mass on your fretting hand adds sustain and clarity. Also the signature denim jackets adds some wooliness to the top end to smooth things up.
Refreshing to hear a guitarist that lets the melody breathe...
This channel is such a treat, from the calm, eloquent presentation to the transcendent playing.
Thank you ☺️
@@ChrisBuckGuitar Thank you!
Musicians in the past : we want to be louder
Musicians now : we want to be louder and quieter at the same time.
INCREDIBLE playing and brilliant video Chris. Thanks!
I've been curious about these. Thanks for shedding some light Chris. Sublime playing as always!
Very helpful. Appreciate the insights, comparisons & take-aways. Gutsy jam too! Always making Fridays a delight. Cheers! Have a great weekend
This man knows the value of a note!
LOVED the Chris Cornell "Know my name" you played on the Revstar!
Must be on a Chris Cornell high right now...don’t blame him 👍🏻🔥
YES!
The playing is masterful... The stuff you do with your right hand going between the pick and fingers is unreal!
Love me some Friday Fretworks! Let the weekend begin. Thanks Chris.
I was the same as you Chris I wasn’t in to ir or modelling but when I tried the ox I was blown away and I don’t go anywhere with out it now I love it
I'm so glad I stumbled upon this channel. Great review and really wonderful playing.
Amazing playing Chris - the best episode yet. I can see how the Ox inspired you to dig in and let rip.
The Ox is a game changer for home players and studio work. 2.5 years since it's release and people are still asking this question and finding how impressive that it is. If you want to use your own amp, pedals, etc and don't want to peel the paint off the walls all the time, or don't have access to an iso booth, the Ox is the best solution out there.
Love your reviews, Chris. In awe of your playing.
Man alive. That intro! 😍
Great video, very articulate delivery in this review - well done! Lovely playing too, incredibly musical.
I keep coming back to this video as it has some of my favorite playing of yours on here! I also just got a Captor X....fantastic device!
It’s perfect for me! Quality rather than quantity of cab and mic choices is great.
I never fully gelled with the big modelers, but now we get all the benefits while still using our own amps. Result!
My favorite guitarists together at last! What a joy, Chris: the fun exploration of the man, the music, the times & then the smokin' into burning playing. Let that flag fly!
0:08 This music is totally inspirational. Great job.
Chris could talk about anything, just as long as he plays!😁
Chris! Love your playing! Love your tone too!
That version of 'you know my name' was everything
I run the stereo line outs of my ox into my strymon mobius->volante->timeline->big sky then into my recording interface for modulation+delay+reverb of my choice... sounds great :)
Incredibly insightful video. Subscribed Greetings from Melbourne Australia!
That rug really ties the room together
“That’s, just like your opinion man”
You guys are a real couple of urban achievers
Nice marmot
Things get real serious on 4:35 ... man you’re sounding beyond dope!!! Holy shi*
Cheers Chris that was very interesting and informative along with your tasty playing 👍
Chris Cornell was a very nice touch man. RIP for him and congrats for you. Beast of a player
Your playing is always so good!! The ox is awesome too!
Great playing, the OX amp is so amazing. I’ve had mine for about a year, best guitar tones I’ve had ever. Sold my older Axe Fx floor model, and haven’t looked back.
I own an Ox Box and I love it, best gear for a home studio/apartment environment.
Kick ass tone, killer playing man! Awesome
That drummer nailed it! I put that down to your choice of shirt.
Incredible playing
Where Jimmi Hendrix left off CHRIS BUCK has filled the void!!!!
THANKS CHRIS!!!!
That piece at the beginning tho... I'm kinda getting to used to it: people in the 70s had favorite vinyl LPs, we favorite bookmarked gear review videos.
That intro was EPIC!
I agree!
Best piece of gear I've ever bought, hands down.
Cheers Chris, interesting insight, mucho apreciado. :)
Well done! Truly inspired playing.
Congratulations on being an incredible guitarist
Awesome guitar playing as always .
Now that's some great playing!
I really love your playing man.
Loved all the the great expressive playing and bad to the bone tone in this video, it sounds "better" than live! IMO.
Chris... sick Playing Bro!!!! Great Video!
Great review, thank you man!
beautiful man.. this is art..
Amazing playing and tone
Sounds great! Great skills!
Thoroughly Enjoyed 🤘🏾
That Reverb is BEAUTIFUL
Lovely playing there
Just here to listen to the pickin’ cheers
I agree to everything you said, although I use the Ox for touring as well, mainly to have control over my sound in my inear monitoring and being able to play at very low volumes without sacrificing the sound of the amp. Great tasteful playing as usual, very nice!
Hi there.....
What an intro 👏
Amazing playing
Pleasant playing skills!
Sublime playing (as ever) ✅
That second jam was 😱💪
The last outro solo is straight up holy fire fakin good
Very tasty playing indeed
Infinitely searching for superlatives to describe your infinitely amazing tone and control 😊
Sadly a seemingly infinite wait for a live gig 😢
As you know Chris I’ve had mine for over 2 years now and I wouldn’t be without it. It’s an essential part of my setup for practicing. The ability to record everything when I need to and to choose whether to play through the cab, monitors or headphones is just great. It’s been an extremely worthwhile investment.
Matt Birtwistle hi there. Can I ask you a question? I am using a device called a radial headload prodigy to attenuate, and to hear my tube amp through headphones and I love it, but I have to try to balance my monitors with the amp if I want to play to backing tracks and it doesn’t work well. You mentioned practice. Would you be able to use the ox to play with tracks, from the computer or device so it sounds better? I don’t want to buy a modeling amp that has an aux input unless I have to. I like my amp. What can the ox do along those lines?
Jason G hi Jason. I have my Ox connected to my audio interface (focusrite 2i2) which is then connected to my computer. So I play backing tracks on the computer and everything works out fine. I don’t struggle with balancing volume levels. What’s even more useful is that recording is a doddle. I just open my DAW and I’m good to go.
Matt Birtwistle so in that set up the sound of the guitar amp goes into the computer and you hear it and the track through monitors? I really appreciate you replying thanks!
Jason G that’s right Jason. I can also choose to hear it from the amp’s speaker as well if I want.
Matt Birtwistle ah thanks very very much! I needed a user to clarify this point. Looks like I am saving up for the ox top box!
Your playing sounds great, as always. The OX seems like a good unit, however, at the same price you can buy the Boss Waza Tube Amp Expander, which has IRs and other functions beyond what the Ox has. I've had a TAE for about 2 months and I love it.
I wanted to see a video of this!
Total is spot-on Eric Johnson from his Tones album. Nice work!
Wow incredible playing!
Instant subscription 🎸🎸
I’m very glad I discovered this channel.
What pickups are in the intro Strat? Sounds incredible.
Getting an OX Box literally changed my way of practising and recording: I love it. I agree with the live application use, although i've found that its good for giving the sound engineer some options and can make sound checks a lot easier when they've got a decent stereo feed coming from you. It's not the easiest thing to lug about though, they need to make a carry case for it and there's always some prat that uses it as table for their pint...
They do. Skb I series case 👌🏼
@@lcallaghan3838 Legend.
Would like to see a v2 that lets you have more outputs. Direct, with cab, fx separate channels. Also ability to run some other uad plugins on the device would be cool.
Same story ever... In French we say 'make the wood play' and so you do! Your fingers do it all (almost 😂). You are a great player I hope you come to Paris one day
I Hope too :)
I've had the OX now for almost 2 years and its literally the best studio tool I've ever owned. Had every attenuator, impulse, plugins, amp sims, etc. But never did a solution come together so elegantly and simply while sounding and feeling this good. 99.9% of the time I use mine in the studio without a cabinet but it's also great to use when working on amps as a load or an attenuator to test out the work. I'd love to have the ability to run 2 cabinets in the OX software, but otherwise it's perfect.
Hi steve!
@@destianpatrianagara1119 Heya!
The Room Mic IR emulation in the OX is the most realistic sound that puts you in the room. UA does amazing convolution and mic modeling. Your videos sound amazing with the OX. I have lots of mics and gear but don’t really need them with the OX.
Love my ox box
Btw you can use your Ox in the Helix. So, guitar input to Helix... fx send to amp input, amp to ox, ox to the return. This is a nice setup if you like Helix routing and effects, but want to use your amps. Hope it helps...
Hi Chris! Great stuff again thanks. I wonder if you could show in more detail how you play with your right hand fingers, with a heavier gauge. I’m using 12’s on a strat and was difficult doing the bends.
Anyway very cool hybrid technique.
Nice playing
Hi, I liked your demo very much. Maybe you have an idea if Universal Audio will do another update
I would love to see a firmware update with a spring reverb. As a UAD twin user, I can always use the AKG spring tank in that.
Nice! On the comments about the delay and reverb not necessarily being useful -- there are a few small reasons it's nice to have these available for free: you can use your amp's gain and have the Ox fx placed afterward as if in a loop on amps that don't have fx loops; you can keep your amp's speaker (or cab) dry with no delay/reverb pedals in front but add these fx in the OX out to monitors to get a quick simple wet/dry setup in the room; the Ox fx and optical out are stereo and not everyone has stereo delays or reverbs in their pedals; you can stack your pedal delay into the Ox's dual delay for cascading ambient effects without extra pedals. Not a game changers by any stretch, but nice to have onboard for free (if you can call it "free" given the overall cost!)
Chris, you could talk about the phone book and make it interesting.
Dude can play (with feeling)!
Of all the guitars you play, your Highway One Strat always sounds the best to me.
Radioshop Chris Buck Signature p/ups in the Highway One, I believe... I totally agree with you.
Thank you, Chris, for taking the time to go over the OX. I looked at one a while back and decided for $700.00 more I could buy a Fractal Ax FX III and ended up getting one of those. I to this point have not regretted it. Loved the jams today. Take care :)
guitarmanme63 I had an Axe FX 3 and sold it for Torpedo Live. Not trying to change your mind, but if you have a chance to try one or an OX you might change your mind. Probably depends on amps and pedals you own though. I’ve got a bunch so never feel like I am missing a certain amp model. Playing real amps has a certain feel that is missing in Ax, Helix and Kemper IMO (have owned them all). Anyway, best of luck.
@@dracul74 Hi there. I run the ax through two Marshal JCM 800 100s through 4x4 cabs when gigging. I am always looking for new toys though. I looked the torpedo up online after reading your note. Long story short it will be shipped Monday. Thank you for the suggestion. At the very least I can use it in my practice room where I do lessons. Take Care. :)
guitarmanme63 awesome hope you enjoy it! I use it with IRs about 80% of the time, probably cause I already owned them and used them with other products... but I do use their cab models sometimes too. I’ve been surprised how much development Two Notes continues to do. In that way they are like Fractal where the product keeps evolving for the better. Best of luck....
@@dracul74 I was thinking about buying an Two Notes CabSim too. At the moment I'm using the LeClean Preamp with CabSim for silent practice and direct to PA on live stage (Booster and Overdrive in front and Delay Reverb in the Effect Loop). Would an additional CabSim improve the tone?
Olaf Nelson Duerksen sorry I only use it with traditional tube amps. With those I like the tone. Lots of UA-cam videos for it can probably give you a n idea of the tonal possibilities.
Your Jams are so bloody incredible.. How do you get that tone out of your fingers?
Superb riffing, my new Hendrix
Chris beautiful playing as always. Most importantly, what watch is on your wrist?
I think the waza tube amp expander looks like the better value, would love to see a demo/comparison between the two
Chris - question: your 335 looks very much like mine. What year is it? It also sounded killer. Do you have stock PAF pickups or upgrades? I have a high output Lollar and Lindy Fralin and am thinking of going back to the PAFs. What do you think? Thanks, Martin
I think it was well worth getting the OX, especially for home recording and practice. Even though I do have quite a few nice pedals, I still find uses for the built in effects as well... just more crayons in the box. I also can still use the spring reverb in my Deluxe... does the Victory 140 not have a spring reverb?
Love your tones Chris. Any way you could make a few presets with fewer blocks for us HX Stomp users?
Chris, you mentioned using Helix or (can’t remember) for some of your Friday Fretworks, depending on what you were in the mood for, and recently having wired up your rig using OX. For the jams throughout this video, were they all OX and your rig (and which amp(s)), or were there combinations of rigs, Helix, other? Great vid by the way - always enjoy your insights into the world of guitars and music. Thank you!
On a complete tangent (down another rabbit hole ;-)) I note your fingers are often in the scratchplate exactly where the three slide switches were I wonder how long before your own patina replaces (enhances?) that on the 62.
The OX is a fantastic unit, personally unless I am playing an outdoor gig or a large venue I rarely am able to run my preferred amp (a Bogner Shiva 30th anniversary) at the volume I like. I use the OX and take no cabinet. I have the Tube amp Expander but I feel the OX sounds better. I have owned the Torpedo reload and again once I got my OX I sold on the Reload. I have also used other ones {and still have some) too many to recount here.
Great demo of the OX but most importantly: DAMN You play the crap out of Your axes!!! Awesome playing and dare I say it, a bit Mike Landau sounding!!! 👌👌👌👌
You play Very well
Slightly off topic Chris, but can you recall what overdrive(s) you were using with the Les Paul? The tone on those chords was wonderful. Bright, no mud, but still very much an LP.
