      @@Maximus01776 I don't get paid to make videos about Decathlon. I have mentioned the stock issues to them multiple times though are it is why the frequency of how much I talk about Decathlon (even though I think the value of their products is phenomenal) has decreased.

    What makes Decathlon special, is that in the last 20-25 years they made the outdoors affordable for everyone. Every budget, in every country they are present in. In my opinion, they revolutionized the access to the mountain, water, cycling, running and many other sports, you name it. For me they provoked a massive change for people to be out and in comfort without braking the bank and ruin their budget. For families this is great!
    Thank you Justin for sharing your experiences with us!
    Good luck!

      I can attest, i'm from france. They do not advertise teir brand, plus with huge volume, they can sell at cheap prices. That's why they dont do discount this often, cause their margin is relativly low. All this is made so all consumer can afforrd quality products for resonable prices. I like to compare decathlon to Ikea, they have the same mindset ! :) love decathlon ❤️

      Yes. With 4 kids, I'll couldn't probably afford to take them to some places without Decathlon... But every item (in Poland and Germany) has to be checked and double-checked (specially shoes) before buying and useing, becouse the quality can be very different among the same model od stuff.

      Fully agree with your comment. Decathlon produces good great at all kinds of price ranges which is brilliant for less fortunate countries, and especially - it makes sports available to a wide range of economic classes of people. I am very frugal so I still order most stuff from china, but I have a lot of decathlon stuff

    4: cup and plate both in stainless

I made the entire camino de santiago and went on to finisterrae with a pair of decathlon's boots that i paid 49,99€ : in 1000 km i had not a single blister and not a single drop of water entered the boots (and i even walked in the mud to the ankles for days on)

    The waterproof over mitts are seriously good; I reckon they kept me from getting hypothermia when I seriously underestimated the rain the forecast during my first attempt at a thru hike in UK in 2020.

    I live in Colombia and Decathlon is fantastic. It really is good to great quality gear for reasonable prices. I hike and hammock camp in the rainforest 30 days a year and everything I've gotten there I've been more than satisfied. The trekking bags are awesome. Way cheaper than Osprey and just as good if not better. Get the zip down trekking bag with the easy fit adjustment. It's worth the extra pound. It's the most comfortable bag I've ever used. I'm not a gram dork because of the environment I trek and camp in.

    Here in the interior of Portugal, decathlon is not only the best sports related store, but it’s widely used for cold weather clothes. Winters are severely colder than coastal areas, and there’s no other accessible cold weather stores. People value it for the fleeces, warm liners and comfortable footwear .

    We have the stores down here in Quebec and they do offer great value on a lot of stuff. They're great for hunting and fishing gear as well. HOWEVER, I think it,s really important that people are aware that YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST ORDER ONE SIZE LARGER THAN YOU USUALLY WOULD WHENEVER YOU ORDER FROM DECATHLON!!!. I'm a medium and sometimes small in just about every brand on the market but I always have to buy large at decathlon and it seems to be the same for everyone I talk to. Apparently it's even more for women who often have to buy 2 or 3 sizes larger than they usually choose at other stores.

    My wife has a $160 three layer waterproof breathable shell jacket from Decathlon that I bet works at least 75-80% as well as my very, very, very expensive Arcteryx Alpha SV shell, and as well as any of the $300-400 shells she's had. All my winter running gear is Decathlon, and more and more of my regular outdoor gear is from there.

    We are very familiar with Decathlon gear in our family. I own the MT100 and MT900 down jackets (women version) and they are my go-to for any backpacking trip. The merino wools products are also great. My favorite pick is my down sleeping bag, I've got the previous version of the current Forclaz MT900 for only $40 on a clearance sale. It keeps me warm and comfy in the Sierras. I add a Sea to Summit liner for trips during the fall.

    I LOVE Decathlon! As soon as they opened a store in Toronto I have been buying clothes there. The price on base layers is phenomenal! I also have the rain mitts, they work really well. I wear them backpacking, and when I'm out walking the dog in cold rain or wet snow. I've got the merino toque and neck gaiter AND merino underpants, which are awesome for multiday trips. I also have a pair of merino glove liners that are great too either for marginally chilly days, and as an extra layer when it's cold.
    The fleece pants are also so nice for at camp and for a warm sleeping layer. So comfy and warm.
    My sister said she needs a new winter coat, I told her to go to Decathlon. My neice justmovedd back to Ontario from BC. She said she needs a winter coat, I told her to go to Decathlon. They have some amazing gear, at surprisingly affordable prices. I love them. But I shop online, because the traffic where the store is is really f#@%ing crazy 🤪

    But yeah, Decathlon is fantastic when you're on a budget. On the other hand, I have noticed that not all of their products are durable. For example the zipper coming off of my zip-off pants (MT500 I think). The elephant in the room is also sustainability, when it comes to the factories where this stuff is made. Of course this also goes for more famous brands though...

    I would add the rain jacket mh 500, the fabric is comparable to gore-tex pro for a fraction of the price, it’s a little less waterproof, but not enough to see the difference and is as breathable as gore-tex pro, it’s resistant and can cost about 1/5 of the price of gore-tex pro jacket, depending the one you take and the sales going on.

    I got the MT100 and its for me never warm enough to sit longer at 5 degrees Celsius, maybe with sun, no wind and low moisture in a perfect day. In reality perfekt for the camp above 10 degrees Celsius . If you are on the trail 5 degrees Celsius is not a problem. But all together its perfect for summer. But maybee is the downfilling in us different. In Europe has an XL MT100 93grams of downfill. I saw some videos from the us, where there spoke from over 100? Your blue Jacket looks also it could be a little more puffy than my MT100 in dark blue with 93g in XL.
    There is also similar Jacket to the MT500Jacket from Simond Decathlon avaiable. It feels a little more durable, better hood and looks more like outdoors than the MT500. But the MT500 looks better in a casual wear for everyday use. I think they have the same temperature Rating. Booth a perfect spring/autum Jackets.

    A point to the sleeping bag, 0 deg C is the comfort. I sleep in it well below freezing without issues.
    Also mt900 flat tarp is awesome. 350g 9x7 tarp with ul stakes, guy lines and sack for 500g... It went with me through hailstorms, snow, downpours and really outdid itself.

    European here, the prices are great, but from my experience the really cheap stuff has flaws.
    In clothing thats mainly weak seams or weird material behavior (staining easily from just normal stuff) and with battery powered stuff the integrated batteries lost capacity potential to aprox 70% after small time (half a year or so) and then stayed at that for quite long time and just plummeted. Their drybag just sprung a hole in seam after a year and 3 uses 😅
    I love them dearly but i wouldn't take get from them anything that i depend on 100% and take it to situation where i have to just depend on it (avalanche beeper in high Alps, any battery powered shiz in freezing temps, drybag to put anything really valuable in, etc).
    If it is cheaper and from decathlon its just economy of scale and vigorous cost cutting. If they find a right balance then its epic, but when they go to far you get really bonkers shitty stuff 😅

      @alessandradetable4508 10 місяців тому +1

      Hey, I've used it and it's quite good, lowest temperature outside was 3°C and it did a great job
      Silicone pads really work to keep your sleeping bag on the pad
      Be carefull of the size there are L and XL and 2 XL don't fit in all tents
      The storage stuff sac is also made to inflate the pad (no moisture inside insulation) I would therefore recommand to keep it inside the backpack (not attatched outside) because I fell on my back and it was ripped by rocks then useless to inflate...

      My guess is due to selling inexpensive items direct-to-consumer with huge volume (they are the largest sporting good retailer in the world). So they have/need less margin and can negotiate really good deals with factories.

    Yes, they offer some good bang for the buck gear. But please keep in mind that offering such products at such a low price point HAS to come with ethical caveats.

    • @JustinOutdoors
      @JustinOutdoors  9 місяців тому

      I'd be happy to hear you out if you have proof. I have done my own research and they had some issues in the past but seem to have cleaned up their act and now publish their code of conduct, list of restricted substances, responsible sourcing of material statement, green consumption pledge, a modern slavery statement, and vigilance plan. Right now, I'm more likely to accept that they are able to past savings on to consumers due to a direct-to-consumer business model and dealing with huge volumes.

    • @Battlehammer333
      @Battlehammer333 9 місяців тому

      @@JustinOutdoors I'm not saying they are any better or worse than other popular "big players" that are abusing our globalized world. But "ethical caveats", for me, also include shipping stuff multiple times around the world before it arrives at the customer, destroying the market for smaller competitors with an aggressive pricing policy, outsourcing labor to low-income countries instead of creating jobs in your own and catering towards a throwaway culture that doesn't repair stuff because it can just buy it new at a cheaper price. Compared to therm-a-rest, Nordisk, Meindl, tarptent, Ortlieb and all the likes, Decathlon just cannot possibly offer the same ethical standards at that price point.
