I roll up the snelled hooks pack in a bandana that I use as a hatband. It's there if I need it. Could also rig up a short trotline with them.

A great , common sense, explanation, demonstration. All I can add is securing the points of your hooks into a small old fashioned cork will save your fingers and provide you with a ready made float. Happy Trails.

Great information , Blackie. I wanted to put together a survival fishing kit, but wasn't sure of what all to put in it. More simple than I thought. Thanks! 👍🏻🎣

Great video. I always learn something new and see something I want to try out. Thanks. I have a Hobo rod made of a short piece of pvc pipe. I have caps on the ends. One end has my lanyard. I keep my fishing supplies inside. I have made some and gave them as presents.

Thanks Blackie, that gap between going fishing and survival is like a slap to the face. I've gotta make that hobo setup now, it's genius since it's also a rudimentary tackle box :)

Speaking of haversacks, I recall someone, you or someone else, talking about new tweaks for a haversack build with whoever was building them which were going to be put into their youtube store.
I've never used a haversack or messenger bag yet, but I'd like to know more about them and their uses.
Ive been trying to learn bushcrafting, and related subjects, pioneer and colonial crafts. With the shtf bushcrafters, I've never seen anything as it relates to older people.
I'm 70 years young and still walk a lot, ride a bike, and hike wherever I can.
I like to gold prospect, fish, camp out when i can, gardening. Going uphill is an annoying problem given the varicose veins and degenerative disk disease in my lower neck. Stop, go, stop go.
Do you have other haversack tips? If so, I'd like to see a haversack playlist and a tips and tricks playlist to make it easier to find them. I'm not very good at seeing up my UA-cam account to group all the how-to's into categories.

Walmart carries a package of wine bottle corks 6pc to a pack, from the Mainstays brand, they might make a cool addition to the kit for a old timers/ hobo float kit, I'm all for small crappie slip bobbers though

Hi Blackie, greeting from Australia 🇦🇺 thank you for your time to make these videos, we use to use the nuts and washers as sinkers , for a float we would use the cork off wine bottle, get the publican to keep the wine bottle tops .

Thanks. I grew up using a hardline now and then. We used the wooden frame style, no storage though. Great for catching blue claw crabs. I've been thinking about rigging up something. Saw that some of the pre-made "Hobo?" type rigs cost $45-$100. That's out of my budget! So DIY is the winner.:-) NYS doesn't allow tot-lines in fresh water. Goes back to the early conservation regulations. I used trot lines in brackish water of the lower Hudson and also heard that they worked nice in the water of the NYC Watershed if well hidden.

Lol, i built a little kit out of one of those green collagens pill shaped capsules and then i got one of those Sulkada gimmicks we found on amazon. The Sulkada has a little hobo reel in it😂 with a hook and weight. It is still a gimmick, but it does have a few useful parts
