Welcome to another Episode of Ross Reviews AU on this weeks Video we take out this Daihatsu Copen Robe S! This JDM Sports Kei Car is very much a bit of a weird thing.. but if you keep an open mind its also a very cool car.. come join me as i test and review this one through the hills of Osaka Japan!

Daihatsu ended its Australian operations in March 2006 after almost 40 years there. At the time the marque sold the Charade, Copen, Delta, Sirion and Terios models.
Still have a 94 4X4 ROCKY 2.8LT D 200+KM UNSTOPPABLE IN DA BUSH NEVER BROKEN DOWN I'VE HAD MATES BUY 5,6,7 OTHER 4WD FROM JIMNY'S TO LANDCRUISERS IN THAT TIME 10K vs 100's of K $$$ I've done personal mods myself ie suspension tyres & just last weekend beat a new 1/4 million land rover discovery on a hillclimb absolutely pants it mind you I'm a nut & I'll send anything 250K ? If I got it ITS GETTING SENT

I'm a mechanic and the Daihatsu is one of the best quality cars I've worked on for the price range. The Charade was a pretty good seller in the 80s. A 3 cylinder 1.0 L car.

We used to have the Daihatsu Copen in Europe, but we don’t have it anymore.
I saw just a few of them.
yeh they couldnt make it work there i guess.. they fit well in japan tho
@@RossReviewsau True. Things that go well in Japan won’t necessarily work well here in Europe.
Copen was relatively expensive,new. I own one I bought used,the years ago,for £3500.
In the UK they sold the earlier ones as a 660 cc turbo but than replaced it with the 1.3. But they weren't that popular so they stopped making them.
Ah really had no idea they sold the 660cc ones also in the uk
i´m driving a Trevi that is goint to be 17 years old soon. its the best car ive ever driven. small from th eoutside but rather spacious from inside. and it has the best overview a car can have. the only "car" i drove with a similar overview was a Mercedes Sprinter and that thing isnt an everyday car.
It's a shame they didn't carry on building the charade gti 1lr it was fantastic car

Kei cars are fantastic. My wife has a 1300cc version Copen. Sadly though in the UK we just can't shake off the SUV fix, & judging by the size of the average Brit now, kei cars aren't an option.
they are great cars for the right people
I remember these when they were on sale in Oz new in the 2000s. They were a crazy $35,000 plus for bugger all car. I actually recall saying you would have to be a sucker to buy one at that price. Don't think they sold many.
yeh its a tough sell here in aus they really make cars suited for big cities and populations..
A 5 speed manual would have been really good for you to drive

I know you are young but a quick google search will tell you that they Daihatsu were sold in Australia & there are still plenty registered & on the road today

So, a bit like my '72 Mini? Yeah, it had 1100cc's, but its actual power was less. I miss that thing, but I wish it had been made in Japan, I would have kept it a lot longer, I reckon.

GR copen as toyota owns Daihatsu thats who ha ha... its the entry level GR
Can you please comment on its AC performance? I mean whether it will work efficiently when mercury scales up to 42 Degree Celsius to 44 Degree Celsius. Please advise.

No power, flat out at 120 KMPH down hill on a good day.
But f,CK they are fun to drive, especially with no roof. I took my bosses son for a drive in it in 2000 after he said he wanted to be a race driver, typical commodore hero. He was puking out the side, literally. I almost got fired for it lol. Back in the day in the Twistys down hill the z3 and Mx5 driver's were hard pressed to keep up. Just fun.
As soon as the road for straight or flat they would pass without a second thought.
The good thing about these little car's is you can flog the shit out of it and it's fun to be able to truly reach the limits of a car on public roads.

@@RossReviewsau I love them, it is pure driving. No power, no fancy suspension or brakes. it's pretty much like driving a tool box with wheels lol and it's great. Best handbrake turns ever.
If you do get to drive one find a down hill run that is super Twisty. Or go out the bush on a dirt road. Fun as 🙂😁👍
Doesn't hold up in term of design to the First Gen Copen. Still if it was available here in Aus I'd seriously consider one.

yeah I was so sad to learn that this beauty is front wheel drive… This made it so I would rather buy a S660 to learn to slide a bit rather than a copen…

Not likely. However, if a car is at least 25 years old from when it came out, it can be imported

my wife is Japanese.. if your a local its not easy or cheap to get your licence

Yes awesome review and Choice? of car..., I really want to know all about an ugly gutless piece of Daihatsu boring crap. No Man with any self respect would be seen dead even looking at one of these Hideous things. They should be illegal, and not on the road purely based on looks alone!
The fuck you're on about??? SUVs and crossovers should get the fuck out of the planet and should be illegal... these are fun cars to throw around corners and it's a kei car...not dragsters or supercars.
