You can check your characters friendship level(in the game it's called Intimacy levels) in the character info section as far as I know they give you Backstory - Higher Intimacy levels grant you access to a Resonator’s backstory and lore. Dive into their past, motivations, and the events that shaped them. New Voicelines - As your bond grows, you’ll unlock new voice lines for your Resonators. These can reveal their thoughts on battles, their relationships with other characters, and even some fun personality quirks. Cherished items - These symbolic items can be anything from a childhood memento to a prized possession, offering a glimpse into their personalities and background stories.
You can't go wrong with either tbh, My first 5 star was Jiyan and still to this day he is the only 5 star that I use for events since his gameplay is sooo easy and his best team is f2p friendly! :D Idk much about camellya but tbh you can't go wrong with either if It was me I would just get jiyan but not his weapon, I would instead wait for Jinhsi's weapon and use it on him instead. Jinhsi is the only must pull dps so far meta wise but just go for characters that you enjoy! that way you will like the game more :)
jiyan is a nice character and definietly has his own benefirts, camellya seems like shes gonna be meta though. JInhsi is the best dps rn and camellya might be a match to her, we dont know just yet exactly (its speculated on leaks). If you like jiyans gameplay, go for it, if u like big boom dmg, go for jinhsi, if u like big dmg but spread across multiple attacks, go for camellya :p
Honestly i would go for Camellya if i was a new player, since i would have more time to save for her weapon as well. Jiyan is a very good character who does a lot of damage if built correctly and is pretty easy to play with, and his weapon is pretty good too. Both characters are good options, and at the end of the day is your preference that matters so go for the one you think you would like more
Go for Camellya not bcoz Jiyan is bad hes good, its just that if you go for camellya you have enough time to Get Astride To get her and maybe Her sig weapon...And if you want jiyan You have 5 left so just speed run the story😂

lock the echoes you will need first then go to data bank menu and merge your disposable echoes to convert them to usable one
Call me crazy but i always forget to swap on echo and or weapons so i try to give every character there own stuff.
Done with all my echos (including camellia, i prepared sick echos for her)
