Mercedes Emergency Brake Repair - 2013 GLK 350

  • In this video I show how to fix a sticking emergency brake on certain Mercedes models. This should work across a few different types of cars, as long as the cable is accessible from the bottom near the brake pedal. All you need is WD40 and some plastic pry tools! I hope this saves you all some money on an unnecessarily costly repair!!

I can't thank you enough! We stopped using the e-brake on our 2015 GLK250 about 2 years ago because it wouldn't fully release and often the brake light would flicker on the dash even after we had pulled it all the way back with a hand or foot. We took it to the repair shop and they said it could NOT be adjusted and that we could either live with it or replace the whole assembly for about $800. After watching your video I did the lubrication - it didn't work right away - even after about 20-30 presses and releases it didn't seem to make a difference. I'm glad I didn't give up!!! After about the 40th time, it suddenly POPPED back! I couldn't believe it! It works PERFECTLY now! I really appreciate you showing how to fix this common problem!

I wanted to say that this video actually helped my 2014 GLK250. My parking break would get stuck and I would had to pull up with my hand with an extremely huge amount of force. Now after spraying some WD40 the pedal retracts just fine without any difficulties

OMG just bought a 2013 GLK 350 less than a week ago, and this is exactly the problem i have. Thank you sooo much, i will try this tomorrow and will definitely update here... I subbed.. Thanks again for the video.

Just wanted to come back and drop a comment. Did this on my new to me 2014 glk and after doing it several times it barely had a difference but after letting it sit a few hours it’s now working great! Thanks for the video!

My GLK brake started doing that since yesterday, I'm going to try this on my next day off.
    Thanks!

I first used WD-40 with similar results. However, I read that silicone lubricant was better than WD-40 for lubrication for a longer-term fix. I repeated the process of lubrication a few days after using WD-40 on a 2016 E350 with silicone lubricant. Hoping it will last at least one year. Some websites suggest that silicone lubricant can last up to 15 years?! Not sure about that but in the immediate, either of these are OK to get the foot break to move faster. Good video.

I just want to thank you sooooo freaking much because I literally figured it out on my own by wiggling it with my feet ! And it like clicked back in place and the break went light went off

Thank you for a practical tip. I've replaced the parking brake twice. Perhaps this will save me the high cost of a third replacement.
Note that the video is about the "parking brake" as noted by the "P" symbol on the handle and NOT an "emergency brake". This brake holds the vehicle in place when parked instead of relying solely on the transmission and the drivetrain. It has no use in an emergency.

Looks like you cut away the Yrim Panel to gain access to the E Brake
Mine is stuck down hard and won't Release.

Thank you! I just bought a 2013 and it has this issue. Any reason you wouldn’t use white lithium grease or a dry lube like graphite?
