LOL WOW! I'm old my letter about Nova is reprinted at the very end of this book. I remember being pissed they butched my short letter down o one lousy sentence. In Rom #29's letter page. Had a few other published in Bob Layton's mid 80's Ironman too. Printed circuits letter pages at least in. IM #201 & #219. I think I had a few more in IM too and one in a earlier issue of West Coast Avengers as well.
Mines already shipped on Friday last week i can't wait to receive it. Now I have to preorder volume 2 next week.
I am waiting on mine as well, reading Fear Agent right now.
I hunted down writer Bill Mantlo's brother Michael. Around 2008-2010. After three calls, I left messages. Mike was kind enough to call me back. He confirmed my theory about Bill's Rom. Mike, myself & Bill grew up in the 1960's/70s. When local tv stations had monster movies on every Saturday night. Even double features at times and every October for Halloween. The movies The Day theEarth Stood Still (1951). Is where Bill basically merged the two characters together. To be ROM. The Dire Wraithswere swiped from Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)/(1978) remake. And the Hybrid creature from Rom #17 & #18. The female Dire Wraiths were mainly swiped from the Xenomorphs from the Alien/Aliens movies too. Director John Carpenter also swiped the sunglasses to see aliens in his 1988 movie They Live from later issues of ROM too. ROM's comics are even int wo tiny fast scenes in ROBOCOP (1987). ROM the Spaceknight is interesting because the characters was based on a toy/figure from then Parker Bros, now Hasbro, which then transitioned to comics in the late 70s and ran through ‘86.
I collected him back in the day and am excited to revisit him in this collected format.
