  • This is the BIGGEST blade in all of Battlebots! Triton shows off everything that goes into making the biggest weapon in the sport! #battlebots #blog #robotics
Bradley Hanstad shows us inside the devastatingly powerful TRITON of Battlebots fame! With over 3 feet total in reach, Triton is capable of hitting it's opponents long before they hit them! Brad tells us the inspiration behind the robot, how the robot came together, and shows the internals powering this MONSTROUS weapon system!
Triton is the Brother of Deep Six, the largest vertical spinner in Battlebots history. Between these two robots, they have around 12 feet of total weapon!

Wow Bradley flexing on everyone by catching an 80lbs bar of steel

He probably works out and the bar’s weight distribution might not fully feel like 80lbs.

The pivot point makes Triton and Tombstone different a lot more significantly than it looks at first. Triton's middle pivot makes it more suited for keeping the spinny end pointed towards opponent at all times, while Tombstone's back pivot gives it gnarly sideswipes.

It's wrong. Up until, iirc, last season or at most the season before that, Tombstone's pivot point was too behind or between the wheels. Because it has a slightly lighter blade and a slighter longer body.

4:02 that is absolutely bonkers, I knew the wheels were "split" like that for the weapon but never knew it runs so close.
I'm pretty confident Tombstone will be back next championship (considering how many other things Ray has been attending this and last year and I'm sure a previous champion has no issues getting accepted again) and will be interesting to see how both bots will do, seeing as they are two pretty different approaches to the same "problem". I wonder if they will ever make a hoop weapon for Triton to store the absolute maximum kinetic energy.
But I just love both Deep Six and Triton so much for going full out big weapon, might not be the most competitive design (although Triton is a lot more optimized than Deep Six ever was) but damn are they entertaining to watch.

I wonder if they've considered debris being forced into the wheels by the blade.

I was so amazed when he explained why there are 2 small tires on each side instead of one.

Triton is in my opinion one of most promising returnees from last season. Can't wait to see this beauty in next season 😍

Awesome insight! Triton is one of my favorite robots and I've been looking for a deep dive into all the parts of Triton and little parts about it, I never knew the bar went between the wheels which is pretty crazy to me.

I loved Deep Six, love Triton... that fight with Manta was savage! Glad to see you're still working on it.

Hopefully triton becomes more durable and reliable love to see it do much better then it did last season , the wheel design is genius also the fact it had wheel guards while having a bigger weapon then tombstone is insane

Seeing just how close the clearance between the blade and the wheels are, it suddenly completely makes sense why the blade ended up hitting the side of the wheels when it fought Manta at Proving Ground, the bar was warped and thus put the wheels directly into its path.

We thought this would be the tombstone of s7, but they didn't land too many big destructive hits

I love bots that are just all weapon, I wonder how big a drum spinner you could get on a bot.
