- In this video I rank all 12 studio albums from the legendary King Diamond . I also take a quick look at the new live album , Songs From The Dead . So come on in & check out my thoughts on King Diamonds studio albums , let me know your favourite from The King 👑 ! Thanks for watching & subscribing 🤘 stay heavy ~ Darcy
King Diamond's vocal range is unbelievable! I have been thinking about getting into his music more, solo and with Mercyful Fate. Yes I am a new fan and subscriber.
I don’t know how I missed this video, I thought I watched all of your stuff! King Diamond is one that I will probably do a ranking myself sometime in 2023. I have really been into Voodoo for the last few months. Andy LaRocque is one of my favorite guitarists. Great video as always sir 🤘
Very nice list! I totally agree that the Top Five might be interchangeable a bit. I love Abigail and Them. The Eye has a special place for me, it was when I discovered King Diamond for me...I still have the vinyl I bought at the age of 16 or so, when it came out. Maybe I am mistaken on that, but I remember that I read somewhere that this the first King Diamond Album where he uses classic song structures and sing-along choruses. So for me this is a great album to start with.
Keep going and stay Heavy!
Hi Darcy... very cool stuff ! I still need to pick up that live album. That was the tour I saw and when we were walking in there were cameras filming so we asked and the guy said they were filming for a DVD release . This was in Detroit but they went with the Philadelphia show for the release . Abigail is tremendous and seeing it performed live was awesome! Thanks Darcy. Love your ranking videos ! Chez
Thank you very much ! I’m super jealous , hopefully I can see King Diamond in the future 🤘 take care my friend :)
Super. My fave is the debut, i think, at least today lol. Love THE SPIDERS LULLABYE and THE EYE too a lot. And ABIGAIL and and and.... just so hard. Nice you have the guts to make a ranking video, always so hard for me to do. Super.
Thanks Rene 🤘 very hard ranking ! Stay heavy my friend :))
Hey Darcy! This ranking video and the Mercyful Fate were the first to videos of yours I watched and got me hooked on your channel. So we can thank the King for bringing us together!! Lol. I am a diehard fan of King and Mercyful Fate! Your ranking of Mercyful Fate was spot on how I’d rank those awesome albums!!! With King the only real change as I would make personally, would be to drop The Graveyard to where you have Voodoo and flip them. I really enjoyed Voodoo!! Thanks again and as always stay heavy!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘
It still blows me away that music brought us all together & the King knows what he’s doing right ! I could definitely live with flipping The Graveyard & Voodoo around , lots of them are so close ! I can’t wait until The Institute comes out ! Stay Heavy David 🤘
I have all the King Diamond Albums on CD ,everyone is fantastic, but my No.1 is „The Puppet Master“ Thank you for this really good Video.Bye!
A lot of people really love that album , including me . Can’t wait for a new studio album from The King 👑 take care & thanks for watching :)
Yes yes yes!!!!! The ultimate!!!!!
Great ranking my friend , stay heavy, king diamond one of the best cheers \m/
Thanks Christian 🤘 stay heavy !
Super video brother!! I don’t own 1 KD album yano!! I am seriously late to this party, coz what I’ve heard, I like!! I do remember him from back in the day especially “conspiracy “ which was lauded by Kerrang magazine, but he just passed right by me!! 🤘🏻
Keep your eyes open for some King Diamond , especially those first five albums 👌 classic King !
great ranking Darc, gotta love King Diamond
Gotta love The 👑 King !
I think you have made me broke again. Great video.
🤣 oh shit !
I just literally discovered king Diamond and omg Abigail is a bad ass album also love the eye and them
Awesome King Diamond ranking, Darcy! The Puppet Master is a underappreciated album IMO. So as Give Me Your Soul....Please.
The Puppet Master is a real gem , one of my favourites 🎶 thanks for watching Tony :))
liked the order you showed it's a good a few I would place different but that's what makes us ..us keep the music and videos coming my friend
Thanks Glenn 🤘 much appreciated !
Very good lesson in king diamond's discography my friend. I only own the 1986-1990 box set released by Roadrunner, which contains the band's first 5 studio albums. Will start investing more in these guys. Thanks for this lesson! Cheers 🤘.
That’s a great boxset , I’d love to have vinyl set like that 👍 take care my friend :)
I've been a fan since 7th grade/1988 and your ranking is pretty spot onto what I'd rank them as far as the first five any how. I've been playing a lot of House Of God in the car lately, I really like that album. Can't wait to see them play in Dallas next month!
Hey Brandon 👋 Thats awesome you get to see them in Dallas , I’m super jealous , I hope you have a great time ! Can’t wait for the new album ! Thanks for watching 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy

Just picked up the remastered Spiders Lullaby. Very underrated as you stated. Really good album
Good to hear you picked it up! The original sounds a bit thin, the remastered version is top notch! Also, two other great albums to check out are Mercyful Fate In The Shadows from 1993 & Time from 1994. Thanks for watching 🤘 Stay Heavy ~ Darcy
Great video (as always)! 👍🏻
I agree with you: Abigail is King Diamond best solo album. I saw him live in 1990 (he was great) and in 1999 with Mercyful Fate, supporting Metallica. 🤘🏻
Seeing Mercyful Fate in 1999, that’s awesome! My favourite track off of 9 is Kiss The Demon, Metallica has very similar intro on ManUNkind, you can tell they worship Mercyful Fate. Thanks as always Robert 🤘
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 very similar intro. You’re right. I’ve never noticed it. 👍🏻
12. Abigail II - The Revenge
11. Give Me Your Soul... Please

Thanks for sharing your ranking ! We are getting closer & closer to the new album The Institute , 13 years is a long time to wait for a new album , I’m thinking it will be worth the wait ! Thanks for watching 🤘 Stay Heavy :))
I'm glad to see King Diamond getting props. I've followed King before going solo with MF. Favorite of mine will always be Fatal Portrait. Abigail follows. It will be great when a new studio album released
Oh man I can’t wait until the new album The Institute comes out !! Fatal Portrait is awesome , I love the first 5 albums the most ! As The King would say ... Stay Heavy 🤘 Cheers from Saskatchewan Canada
yo! Amazing ranking man. The top 5 is just masterpiece territory so I guess we all shuffle those round a wee bit eh? Keep up the great work and I love your Canadian accent ;-D
Thanks Daniel ! You can’t go wrong with those top 5 , I’m stoked to have picked up a couple on vinyl ! Shit I didn’t know I had a accent , what are you taking aboot lol . Cheers man 🤘 keep rockin’ ! 🎶 When the corners of the basement of your mind are cleared 🎶 One of the most killer lines of a chorus I’ve ever heard !! Your friend from Canada Eh 🤘
Hei, Darcy!
My Top 3 King albums are
1. Abigail
2. Them
3. Conspiracy.
I bought The Eye LP when it was released but I remember it being a let down. I think I haven't listened to it properly ever since. I really should!
"Give Me Your Soul Please" is the only KD album that I haven't heard. Hard to believe that it's been over 11 years since it was released!
For once I can say at the right time at the right place...
STAY HEAVY!
🤘
Jarkko / MyVinylBar
Love your top 3 Jarkko 👍 I do agree The Eye compared to the first 4 , is a bit of a step back ! Can’t wait for a new King Diamond studio album 🤘 stay heavy :)
Great review! Its hard to rank all the albums cause I love every one of them. But here it goes:
12. The Graveyard
11. The Spider's Lullabye
10. Abigail II
9. Fatal Portrait
8. Voodoo
7. Abigail
6. Give Me Your Soul..Please
5. House of God
4. The Puppet Master
3. The Eye
2. THEM
1. Conspiracy
The guitar tandem of Pete Blakk and Andy LaRoque just was amazing! Mikkey Dee on drums and Hal Patino on bass what a rhythm section! And of course the King at his best IMO. Have a good one!
Thanks Brad ! Yeah I know what you mean
, it’s hard to rank The King lol . Cool to see The Puppet Master higher up on your list , great album ! Thanks for watching 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
I just can't get past of his voice. I have seen him about ten times that includes M.F. seeing him in concert is like going to a horror movie ever thought I can't stand his voice I was never disappointed at one of his shows so go and see him live you will not be disappointed. LONG LIVE ROCK.
Yes King’s vocals are a acquired taste lol . Your lucky to have seen him that many times , the closest King Diamond played was in Vancouver Nov 27 , that’s a plane ride for me , so ya not gonna happen ! Take care Dennis 🤘
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 I live in Yonkers just outside of the city so I am lucky enough to see so many great shows every weekend I was going to shows I saw K.D. and M.F. at a place called Lamors in BROOKLYN it open around 1981 to 1992 saw so many great shows the last time I saw him was a place called the RITZ on 54th it used to be studio 54 the famous disco and the RITZ was down 11th st it's called WEBSTER HALL so many great act's played there one show had MOTORHEAD S.O.D. and the PLASMATICS to bands like HOT TUNA JOHNNY WINTER to STEVIE RAY Vaughan who played about five new years eve shows. I consider myself lucky to have seen so many great shows just love my ROCK and ROLL take care and thanks for the video's ROCK ON.
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 When they did the Abigail full-album tour in 2015, I HAD TO see it. They skipped Portland so I hopped on plane to San Fran, despite being unemployed at the time. Worth every penny.
Anything early is a masterpiece for sure. To me though, the Graveyard marks the most Thrash we ever got out of the band. Loved the album, but understand why some wouldn't. I love the riffs and his singing on this album. def makes my top 5!
Well Done! King is my favorite artist in metal and I finally met him on this last tour. So Amazing. Abigail IS the best KD release for sure. Others may prefer different ones but the planets were aligned with the making of Abigail. Great point on Spiders Lullabye, if the 2nd half was as good as the 1st half, it may be a top 3 release...
My list:
12. Voodoo (I never go back to this album, I find the title track to be sooo cringy. One Down Two to Go is the only song I like)
11. Abigail II (nothing terrible here but nothing too good either)
10. Give Me Your Soul Please (a couple good spots but another lack luster one)
9. The Graveyard (don't love the production here but there are a few great bangers)
8. House of God (sets a different tone than the usual KD album, good stuff here)
7. The Eye (keyboards are in, big change from Conspiracy, still has some classic feel however)
6. Spiders Lullabye (1st half is excellent and then the 2nd half is fairly basic KD)
5. Conspiracy (Loved this album when it 1st came out but it is not very deep and has slipped a few spots since)
4. The Puppet Master (his best post 2000 release, this dark story goes well with some classic KD resurgence, very melodic)
3. Fatal Portrait (so classic, sets the tone for an amazing artist)
2. Them (what an incredible follow up to the beast of Abigail, stands well on it's own. Twilight Symphony is an underrated classic here)
1. Abigail (how can one mess with PERFECTION?, the story, production and riffs all blend into this perfect masterpiece! (oh and incredible artwork to boot))
Awesome list Damian ! That’s so cool you finally got to meet King , he seems like he’d be such a nice guy ! The Puppet Master is killer ! House Of God the only album to feature Glen Drover , I don’t mind that album , I got to meet Glenn after he left Megadeth , he was filling in for Alex Skolnick in Testament , Alex had some commitments with the Trans Siberian Orchestra at the time , anyway Glen was super nice ! I love the first 5 songs on The Spider’s Lullaby , I wish the whole album was stand alone songs . I’m hoping we will see the new King Diamond album this year 🤞 Cheers from Saskatchewan Canada 🤘 Stay Safe
I agree pretty much with this ranking, Abigail and Conspiracy always being my top two
I first heard and owned Consiracy on cdin the mid nineties. I loved it and i want the discography but only own two Mercyful fate albums plus Black Rose cd
I’m definitely looking for some King Diamond on vinyl 👍 I did get one , I’ll show it on my next update ! Cheers Jon ;)
VINYLIZER Black Rose is amazing So GD
Conspiracy and Fatal Portrait are my favorites. I know, it supposed to be Abigail, but that's #4 for me after "Them". Hoping to see King live someday. Had tickets in 2015, but he cancelled.
Cool list. On earache records they are releasing a lot of KD albums. Some are already Available and some for pre order. Coloured and Black vinyl
It looks like Metal Blade as acquired the rights to the first 5 King Diamond studio albums + In Concert 1987 Abigail + Mercyful Fate Melissa , Don’t Break The Oath & Nuns Have No Fun ep . All from the original tapes , I couldn’t be happier to hear this news :) Thanks James 🤘 Cheers from Saskatchewan Canada
Yeah spot on there, I just read the same press announcement myself. I shall be indeed ordering a few tomorrow. Greetings from Switzerland 🤘🏽
Only got into King Diamond in the past year or so, however I've always known about King and his solo projects after my father decided to show me "Grandmaaaaaaaaa" when I was ten years old... I could not sleep that week. Now that I'm older he also told me that he once carved "The Trees Have Eyes" into his forklift at work and that "shit got weird after that" for a few weeks. Tbh, I believe it
Haha, story time aside. I don't feel as if I have the expertise to rank ALL of the albums, however I'm happy to give some opinions on those that I know.
The Graveyard - I really enjoy this one a lot, maybe it's the story? the artwork? production is very nice as well, unsure why, but I find myself revisiting the 90's King albums more than I do his 80's output.
Voodoo - another highly underrated album in my opinion, from that sort of tribal drumming throughout, the story again, and also the tie-in to Abigail... (something I find interesting is that the family in Voodoo are the Lafayettes' in the 1900's, and the family is Abigail are the La'feys'. I like to think it's the same family throughout the years).
Also, the guitar playing on this one is OUTSTANDING, and Dimebag's work on the title track is perfection imo.
The Eye - This is the album that got me into King Diamond, I think this is his most "accessible" album if there even is one. The story while not being a favorite of mine as it's kind of jumbled, isn't bad at all. The production is great as well.
Conspiracy - I have little recollection of this album (I'm actually listening too it as I write this), however the opening track "At The Graves" is a masterpiece imo, it sounds like something Metallica could've covered on Garage Inc had they wanted to do more than just the Mercyful Medley! Sleepless night is also super Thrash, if this keeps up this might be a Thrash album in my eyes.
Them - The album which horrified me as a kid based on one song alone, this truly is a phenomenal album, I think it's a classic for a reason, albeit not my personal favorite. The story just doesn't appeal to me as much as some others (and in King Diamond's work I find that to be just as important as the music itself).
Abigail - I hold this in the same regard as I do "Them", it's a classic and I know why, but I just don't have the same emotional connection too it for some reason... maybe in time I'll learn to love this more, but for now it's not something I re-visit all that often.
Great video brother, curious what your thoughts are on this, particularily the "Conspiracy is a Thrash album opinion", and if you're excited for the new album King's suggesting will be out next year!
First off thank you for the awesome comment, I’ve read it top to bottom twice already! I’ve said it in several videos, timing is everything, generally the first album that you get into of a band holds the most memories. I’m super excited for a new King Diamond album, I did a video a few months back talking about a new album and mentioning my favourite songs from each album, check it out if you’re bored ha ha. Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers from Canada
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 thank you for the awesome video sir! Without that I wouldn't even be able to have written this comment lol.
As for the timing thing, I totally agree with you... our first introduction to a band tends to hold a very special place in our hearts, maybe it's when we first heard the album and the state of mind we had during that time (something like Metallica's ReLoad, I love that album dearly for personal reasons while many people aren't into it, which is a big part of the fun of music in my opinion)!
For the new King album, "The Institute" I believe it's called? I'm very excited, as it'll be my first release as a fan of his, and also will give my father a chance to see him and the band live (something my dad's wanted for a long time). So I'm extremely excited haha.
Definitely will check out that video you recommended as well, always love a favorite songs video, even more so when it's by album, as I tend to be a big album listener (all songs or nothing haha).
and cheers from the States
New KD live album on order. Can't wait!
Your gonna love it 👍 take care & thanks for watching :))
My all time favourite King Diamond album is absolutely, definitely "Them" with "Abigail" not far behind. I think "Them" would make one fantastic horror movie! Also boys and girls, keep an eye out for King's "Black Horsemen" beer being released on October 31! It features the cover for "Abigail".
Them is a great album....my only gripe is the production is a lil thin and not enough bottom end. Still sounds good though for the most part.
$8.50 later I have King Diamond House of God
Good deal 🤑
It was a bargain! Creepy album cover to boot.
Great video Darcy 🤘
I agree with your list, except for the first place, I actually prefer "Conspiracy" over "Abigail", but everyone has his tastes :) "The puppet master" is awesome too. I love Diamond, he is a great guy and a genius, he's done a lot for metal, when the new album comes out I hope he tours with it, I would love to see him live if I get the chance
Thanks Kurt ! I wouldn’t argue with you there , Conspiracy is a awesome album with great production ! I’ve never seen King Diamond live , something that I’d love to cross off the bucket list ! Thanks again 🤘 Stay Heavy
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 Then I hope we both get to see him in the future :)
🤞
Before I even clicked on the video I got the song 'Halloween' stuck in my head.
Great song ! I’m loving this live album 👍 great stuff ! Take care Eric
Abigail is one of the greatest metal albums of all time. Flawless.
Hey David 👋 I couldn’t agree with you more , absolute masterpiece ! All hail The King 🤘 Cheers from Saskatchewan Canada
Abigail - absolute masterpiece! Nice list!
I couldn’t agree with you more ! Thanks Joshua 🤘 Stay Heavy
Cool guy, cool list.
Thanks Micheal 🤘 stay heavy :))
Shoot I just listen to that live King Diamond stuff parts of it on UA-cam I don't know what I was listening to, because with that female singer backing him up Melissa and arrival sound amazing damn it now I have to get it
There’s no doubt this live album has some touchups but , ALL live albums do anyways . I watched both dvds & there awesome too 👑 A must have for any King Diamond fan !
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 I can tell there are touch ups but I don't care. Just as long as the CD and DVDs sound great.
Damn you Darcy! I love music, I don't care if I'm broke!
METAL!!!

4) Spiders Lullaby (Very Underated)
3) Them
2) Fatal Portrait ( Hate to correct you but Haunted is part of the storyline)
1) Abigail
Was looking forward to this, loved it. By the way, loved the ten album thread, great to see all the responses you got. I especially loved how people were bitching at you for coming up with that LOL.Glad you got quite a few extra subs from that, hope they keep coming for you. Need to come up with another one to challenge people into doing it. Metalheads/Rockers are suckers for lists, LOL. Looking forward to more videos. Keep up the excellent work.
Serious business lol , that’s awesome ! Spiders 🕷 #4 for you , I like it !! Love that album , totally gets overlooked . Yes thank you for pointing out Haunted , I knew it when I watched the video back 😉 thanks for looking out for me ! Tty soon :))
Love king. First 4 stand alone but up next I love spiders lullaby and graveyard
I agree with Abigail. That's my fav too. My top 3 would be a lil diff. ABIGAIL, THEM & CONSPIRACY.
That’s a kick ass top 3 💪 How many King Diamond do you have on vinyl ? Did you order the new live album ? It’s really good 👌
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 hmm i don't know at moment my collection is in disarray. I have Abigail, The Eye and a few of the new released Pic Discs. Oh the Eye i have. All reissues. OGs tough finds.
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 oops hit send to fast. And yes i did get the live in finally just yesterday! Was supposed to be colored vinyl but it's black. At this point im ok with that. Im getting tired of the variant bs. I try to buy the shorts print press run but even that's getting annoying as they are usually 5-7 bucks high due to color which there is no reason for it to be. Doesn't cost anymore to press a color. I may just rethink how i collect my vinyl.
Loved when Graveyard came out in 96,,Metal was basically dead here in europe at that time
It was tough going for metal in the 90’s all over , I was never much for grunge , I always supported the metal bands that I still love to this day & of course that includes The King 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
I'd put Them at #1 and Give Me Your Soul much higher. Good list!
Those top 4 could easily be tied for #1 ! Thanks my friend 🤘 stay heavy ;)
Nice ranking
Thank you ! Cheers from Saskatchewan Canada 🤘 Stay Heavy
I've been a mercyful fate/king Diamond fan since 1984 since I first heard don't break the oath. When it was first released. Which is so great and metal classic. It's very hard for me to actually pick my favorite but fatal portrait is probably my favorite older king Diamond album. and the puppet master I believe is my favorite newer king Diamond album. But I really like give me your soul please alot. I actually believe it is pretty great. \m/
Hello Steven 🤝 glad to meet you ! I can’t describe the feeling of listening to Mercyful Fate for the first time , I’m sure you know the feeling , I honestly never heard anything like it & that just continued into King Diamond ! I agree on Puppet Master , Magic remains one of my favourite tracks ! Can’t wait for the new King Diamond album in early 2020 ! Cheers from Saskatchewan , Canada 🤘 Stay Heavy !
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 nice to meet you to. I've been nothing but a metal head since I was 13 years old way back in 1983. Metal has been my whole life. And I believe they are going to come out at separate times from each other? It should be pretty great music I'm sure. I think my list would very much surprise most King Diamond fans. But we both have Conspiracy in the exact same spot. Just like my thoughts on Spiders Lullaby's sound, I do like the raw sound kind of reminds me of 70's Judas Priest albums.
Conspiracy has always been a favourite of mine , in my opinion it’s a bit stronger than “Them” . A friend sent me the remastered version of The Spider’s Lullabye , well shit man it rocks !!

Hard for me to rank them because they are all my favourite, basically. With the exception of two or, maybe, three. Abigail is otherworldly. The day I heard it stuck in my mind. The Puppet Master scared me like few horror movies do.
I know what you mean about The Puppet Master , sacred the sh*t out of me too , you know when you have to walk up the stairs backwards because you think someone’s behind you 🤣 that feeling haha ! So many great King Diamond albums , I agree ! Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers from Saskatchewan Canada

I’d love to know how King would actually and honestly rate them.
I listened to Abigail 2 - again - and threw it out my car window - when finished.
Never ever do that. To any band. There was so little there to enjoy. Blah !
Love “ Eye “ and “ Fatal Portrait “. What aura of mood !
I hear ya , I just don’t care for Abigail 2 . A friend just sent me a copy of The Spider’s Lullabye remastered , wow it sounds great ! I’m really looking forward to the new album The Institute , hope it comes out soon ! Stay Heavy 🤘
The same rules apply for music as well as horror movies. Sequels always suck!

@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 Hahaha yes enjoy :D Hail to the King!!
You should get the new mini lp cds instead of those awful remasters. Those cds sound like crap and even King Diamond himself made a video about how much better the new ones sound because they restore the dynamic range and audio quality of the originals.
I totally agree those remasters are not good , so from the time I did that video I’ve picked up the first 5 KD on vinyl , way better ! Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers from Canada
I didn't care much for Abigail 2. Which proves that, more often than not, sequels suck. I agree it's my least favourite.
I couldn’t name one Metal sequel album that surpassed the original , for sure not in this case haha . I read that The Institute isn’t coming out until 2022 , damn I was hoping this year , I guess with covid this gives them time to fine tune the album ! Cheers Mark 🤘
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 Maybe only ONE I can think of. Many thought King Diamond's "Conspiracy" was even better than "Them".
I always counted that as one story lol , but I agree with you there , Conspiracy is awesome & one of my very favourite King Diamond albums !
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 Strangely, Mickey Dee quit over this album, as he thought the band were getting too progressive. But, to my ears, those first four King Diamond albums were the best in the catalog! Although, The Eye, The Puppet Master and The Spider's Lullabye were pretty awesome too!
I had to check this video out again, as I'm on a King Diamond/Mercyful Fate bend lately. Did you do a ranking for Mercyful Fate? I can't seem to find one in your archives.
