I had the pleasure of seeing Buddy play this song live in Oswego, N.Y. during this tour. He played this song, which is my favorite ZZ Top song. It was incredible. He played on a college campus music room. There was maybe 50-100 people there. It was incredible. Very intimate. One of my favorite live-music moments.
"Sure got cold after the rain fell" is one of my favorite ZZTop songs ever. I've never seen anyone playing it live with such talent and class. Man, you absolutely nailed and rocked it ! Congrats from Brazil !
@@killablooz Ha ha! Really? Must be just the John Mayall fans like me who know Buddy. We're friends on Facebook and I view that as a big deal, having Buddy acknowledge a nobody! Mayall opened the door for Buddy when he included him in one of the Bluesbreakers line ups many years ago now. Mayall also "discovered" Coco Montoya and he and Buddy were in the same lineup if my fading memory is correct. I have the live CD of one of their concerts somewhere.
Sad that there's no live footage of ZZ playing this. But good lord, this is as good as the real thing. I first saw this video about 5 years ago, and I always come back. So good.
Buddys' playing moves me as much as any guitarist I know. He has such a delicate touch yet can wang it on and alter the mood in a flash. He is using the pick up selector to change the tone to fit the mood as well. His years with Mayall were superb also
I love that song! Been playing it for years at my solo gigs. Every now and then someone will request it. Usually an older ZZ Top fan I love your version!!
To quote Buddy... "I stolt every note from Billy G himself"...Great man, Fabulous blues guitarist, Good friend. Thank you Buddy for April 17, 2017. The Journey's ride benefit.
I was looking for ZZ Top's version of this song live, found Buddy Whittington's version of it ... what a treasure!! My first time to hear Buddy play, what tone, phrasing and feeling! An amazing musician.
Anyone that knows Blues & Mr.Mayall knows Buddy's a masterclass player & though he may not have the recognition the gang of six stringers that have gone through the ranks with John have he's still one of the greats & most certainly not underrated at all. One listen if your not familiar with him is all it takes to hear he's a master. Man that slide section shows that to a T.
The greatest guitar tones in blues rock, not in order.. Rev. Billy Buddy W. Johnny Hiland Early (Truth) Jeff B. Honerable mention Jimi in studio versions..
For all those who are wondering if there is a better version of this timeless classic here on UA-cam - forget it. There isn't. You don't only listen to this version from Buddy Whittington - I've discovered that for maximum impact of the song it is way better to actually feel it. And to go one step further, it tends to sink in even further when the scenario has happened to you. Rain fell this mornin', make me feel so bad On account of my baby walked off with another man. Like takin' eyesight from the blind man and money from the poor That woman took my lovin' and walked on out that door. And it sure got cold after the rain fell, Not from the sky, from my eye. Somebody, can you tell me just what make a man feel this way? Like river without its water, like night without a day. And it sure 'nuff got cold after the rain fell, Not from the sky but from my eye. If you're home early in the mornin' you hear that rain to fall, With thunderbolts and lightning the wind begins to call. Your worry's superficial 'cause you slept on through the night But stormy weather keep you wond'rin' if ev'rything's all right. And it sure 'nuff got cold after the rain fell, Not from the sky but from my eye, Not from the sky, from my eye.
just got hip to buddy yesterday, he is one of my new favorites. i hear ya bloobear1 i think this version is righteous just like the original is, dig em both.
Buddy is an amazing player, I found out about him searching Lentz guitars, as I think he's sponsored by them. He was playing for John Mayall's Blues Band for some time, very talented person. Love the sounds he gets out the strat's that Scott builds him, singing is great as well.
extra tasty 3 20 on then where the slide come from PURTEEEEEEE NICE TOUCH ON THE VOLUME SWELLS AND THAT XTRA SOUNDS RIGHT NICE... HOW BOUT A NUTHER COLD BREWS FROM BACK THERE......?
Buddy is the most melodic of blues guitarists. This song grabs me and throws me right out the window. My absolute favorite Buddy tune!

Mi-Tee Fine, boys! Mi-Tee Fine! Buddy nails it. So proud he's from Fort Worth!
I met Buddy in a small pizzaria in Pueblo CO. A true gentleman, a class act and a mountain of talent.

Mine too.
Zz top was my neighborhoods garage band when I was in high school and Buddy is a friend. You have good taste my friend.
Why isn't this bloke famous? More musicality here than in 1000 Swifts and Cyrus's. Something very wrong with this world.
he's a big deal in Texas, especially Dallas..!!
I always thought he WAS famous! We all know about him in Australia.
@@arthurblackhistoric I'm an Aussie. Never hear about him in my part of the world...
