Hey Sam and Danny, I really enjoyed the video. I especially liked seeing the white checks and the reduced... Awesome..! Keep up the good work. I going to look for the other videos...
I started the hobby when i was 12 and eded when i was 34 and I loved it. From show birds to homing pigeons to rollers. I miss it , maybe one they ill start again.... people call me pigeon man... Lmao!!
My dad was top 10 in the world he had pensom birds from Birmingham England when he was top 10 in the world just wanted to let you know I'm his daughter I grew up with pigeons I know all about congratulations for having the best birds ever
Good looking birds. I used to breed deep spinning Birminham rollers many years ago. I was always attracted to the odd colored birds. Qualmonds were my favorites. A lot of breeders frowned upon odd colored birds. I gave them up and got back into Spanish Sporting Pouters, because the hawks simply killed All my fliers constantly! Easy pickings.. them rollers!!
Sam I raised rollers about 25-30 yrs ago. Marriage and kidd forced to out. I'm about ready to retire and wld like to get back into them. I've seen your videos and you have top notch birds. I wld like to start with 5 pr. of birds. Do you sell any of your birds and if so how much are they. Hope I here back. Thank you. Robert
How do you pick out your stock for raising spinners i pick my rollers out of the air all my breeders spin or not in my loft had roller for over 60 ty years
Sam...I am an old roller man......I read Pemson years ago and met Jerry Higgins when he first got into rollers. I live in Belmont Shore. Any chance I can tour your loft?
Smitty, I subscribed to your channel, as I think you know what your talkin about. (Plus, I too am over 50,(53) and have had pigeons since I was 10) Anyhow, I have some tumbler pigeons that do not roll backwards...instead they or spin sideways like an ice skater(not all of them do this). They only fly about a two story house height or less and then hover and do the ice skater spins. It's really very clean, fast and exact in the execution of this performance. It's a hard one turn spin and stop. Really very beautiful to watch. But, as of yet, I cannot find anyone else with such pigeons. So, I'm out asking questions. Any info is appreciated. Thank you
Give me a call 303-947-6725 Travis Do Interested in purchasing some birds from your loft love to speak to you got a lot of questions I love to meet you in person see what you have working at your loft
could you please tell me what corn do you us for the rollers as i am in the proses of building my coop many thanks from here over the pond uk nottingham
The last bird shown by Smitty is actually a reduced pigeon, not a pigeon that carries reduced. When a bird carries reduced, you cannot see the "reduced" gene effects and the only way to know a bird carries it is to breed from it. Excellent and very healthy looking birds
Sam: do you or anyone else in here know where to get the old school bird bands from back in the day. They were solid aluminum with the rolled edges and the letters or numbers were stamped on the band? Btw nice very informative clips you put up, also: ain’t gonna lie, I’ve learned a bunch from ur clips.
Yes you can get them from Boone’s feed in Compton California you can call and they will order them for you they are called roll rammed roller bands you can also order them from Chase Siegel and sons or you can order them from Guy band and tag
heyyy sam and Danny i need yr help in the topic how to hand feed pigeons. i have two pigeons which are a pair and it wll be sooo nyc dat if you give a full totorial in training pigeons.....
i emjoyed the vid just one comment threw me you said that the white bars were dominant opal but u also said in this and another vid that u had to breed then put one back in to breed this colour i dont want to nit pick but that would make it recessive in inheritance not dominant also whem breeding dominant opal if there are 2 in a pairing this makes it a lethal gene ie none viable
the red carried in the checks is mostly bronze.. not rec red. I have a long inbred family of my own, a lot of rec red behind them and I have had 2 rec reds produce red check and even blues. Mine have the grey in the tails and under the wings at times. They claim 2 rec reds can't produce anything but rec red...
True that on the Blue Checks showing the "red" in the wing. That is really Roller Bronze, not Rec. Red. It can be misleading for the simple fact that some of those Blue Check/Bar Bronzes might also carry one dose of Rec. Red and it's not uncommon to put them with another one that also carries Rec. Red. Next thing you know, you get Rec. Reds from Bronzes (25% in genetic theory) and so it seems that "Bronze is Recessive Red" or "Bronze makes Recessive Red" when it's really not that at all. Talking two Rec. Reds throwing Ash Reds or Blues, is that from individual coop? Interestingly enough, in the early 70's, when Howard McCulley had his big tiff over Yellows in the IRA bulletins, he spoke about some famous "Recessive Reds" molting out into Red Checks and was regarded as completely ill-educated on genetics over it. That was "impossible", people said. But McCulley wasn't quite as wishy-washy as he was thought to be at the time. What's missing in all this, is that there is such a thing known as so-called "Unimproved Recessive Red", hence we are talking about birds with bluish or greyish rumps just like those you just described. They are Recessive Reds, but they can differ widely depending on the breed due to assorted genetic modifiers like smoky, dirty, spread and so on, as well as even Ash Red too. We get a particular genetic expression in Birmingham Rollers that is not often seen in other breeds because rollers have their own unique body of common modifying factors. A lot of Recessive Red Rollers are of this "Unimproved" type. They are Recessive Reds, but they are not the same exact expression of Rec. Red that you might see in say, Red Carneau. You also get another different phenotype in Racing Homers that they dub "chocolates" and they look different from what we see in Rollers because even though they have some modifiers in common with Rollers, they have a few we don't have and we have some they don't have. To make matters worse, if you add certain bronzes to Ash Red T-Checks, you can get birds that trick the majority of people into thinking they are Recessive Reds because they take on a really dark red hue that looks a lot like Rec. Red unless you know what you are looking at. When you consider the fact that there are at least eight different types of Bronze, each of which acts a little differently from the next, you come to realize that there is a pretty wide variation in phenotype possible just from say these various Bronzes modifying a Blue Bar. Then when you add the so-called "Crud factors" like Dirty, Sooty, Smoky, etc., you get even more variation. Sometimes it all seems to defy or break genetic rules, but in truth, it's just the result of more factors at play that are adding more rules to the genetics game.
nice bro I raise too in Barstow CA I'm part of a club called back yard boogie but I love color birds too check my channel out but I also grow marijuana on the channel but check it out
