The classic Sonic games have some of the absolute best levels and themes in video game history, but their is something indescribably beautiful about Tidal Tempest in particular. It has what I would call the perfect ATMOSPHERE to the Sonic world, hence why people fell in love with the classic games so much. To this day.......nothing, no other game series, quite has that FEEL like Sonic The Hedgehog. And that's something I cant help admire as a long time fan. Even as newer games go sour, this is the stuff that never ages to me.
You are correct and I completely agree with you. I've been a hardcore Sonic fan (especially as far as the pre-Dreamcast Sonic games are concerned) since 1996 when I played Sonic 1 for the first time. Although Sonic 3 & Knuckles is my most favourite Sonic game of all time, there is something so utterly surreal and otherworldly about Sonic CD's music and level designs that I instantly fell in love with it the second I laid my eyes on it.
That and it made a version of Labyrinth Zone that was actually good. CD and 3&K are just outstanding games in all regards. In my opinion, Mania, CD, and 3&K make a definitive experience.
