Wow, big win for the Omega, I have the Omega and am currently saving for a Hulk, very tight call in my opinion , great video Tim , very interesting 👍⌚️
Why is this unlisted?...nice Apocalypse Now reference. I wish the SeaMaster wave pattern was smaller/more detailed like 2011 and earlier. Either way gimme the SM Pro...its a better watch money aside but offers more value anyway!
This is because they infamously refuse to use AR coating on all their watches. Some speculate it’s so the crystal reflects light more to be more bling etc... oh and AR does not age well I have heard
There is no way to choose between the two so I choose both, and a Speedmaster just in case I'm not in the mood to wear either of the others. And a Tudor 58.
Traded Submariner in for the Omega Seamaster diver 300 m in blue, steel band and made three times what I paid....got tired of the Sub after 20 years. Love the new Omega.
Having just purchased a blue Seamaster, and having gone in to try and purchase a sub. The customer experience is night and day. The Omega associates went out of their way to make every detail perfect, and even celebrated my purchase with complimentary tequila. The Rolex dealer thought there was no way a 24 year old accountant could afford the watch and I could feel they truly disdained my presence there. Plus, I was able to get the Seamaster I wanted right then and there without waiting. You can’t beat timeliness
I'd take the smooth dial smpc before both of these. Better looking bracelet end link integration/transition, grey bezel numerals, more subtle second markers around the dial circumference, lower pro He valve, applied omega logo instead of painted, it's the winner at under 3k used all day long.
Wiseguy724 Agreed. The only thing I wish the smooth dial had is the “10” marker on the bezel for nicer balance. But I’ll take the less flashy, slightly smaller, thinner, cheaper, lower profile He valve, less busy dial every time.
I personally have found Omega to always be more accurate than Rolex. I have bought several new Rolex and several new Omega and Rolex accuracy has always been pretty poor for the money. I think I may be unlucky in this regard as everybody seems to find the Rolex to be another level. Two new Rolex I have bought have also had poorly fitting end links which is very poor QC for the money. I have had no issues whatsoever getting Rolex to repair under warranty - but 2/3 is a bad hit rate. Have never had to take an Omega watch back for anything. I have the new Seamaster in blue and after seeing this and looking at the Aqua Terra I personally am dropping out of the Rolex buying game as it is a void price point for me. Omega are now king of this mid priced segment in my mind and JLC, Vacheron and AP are worth the extra over Rolex.
Yes, the bezel on the Seamaster is hard to get a purchase on, especially with gloves. However, there's the elephant in the room --you don't want the bezel to move once you are underwater,, or you will die--
It shouldn't be open full time simply because it becomes more vulnerable to shearing or impact. Best practice is to open the valve only when needed -- exactly like unscrewing the crown of the watch. Best, Tim
The helium valve Is only needed if you have finished a deep sea dive lasting weeks and you are now sitting in a decompression chamber bored surrounded by a mixture of helium and oxygen. Totally pointless to almost everyone. That you can open it during the dive is not a feature. It's saying that if it's left open during the dive your watch will still be ok. They fixed a weak point that doesn't exsist on the Rolex.
@@josepmariaaguascaribot9239 Your welcome. The point l was trying to make is in the video he calls it a feature. It's not! Nobody needs a helium valve. It's as usefull as fitting an alarm on a watch that's designed to be used in the vacuum of space such as the Omega (you won't hear it, so pointless) or making a watch that's water resistant to 1000m. If l was at that depth l would be crushed to the size of a football by the pressure and of corse be dead so pointless. I have a great idea, how about making a watch that's works at -256c then while lm swimming in liquid nitrogen l can still time my lengths.
This is why my subc hasn’t been worn since December 13, the day I picked up my new omega Diver. Absolutely love this watch. Running at +.3 sec a day average.
I choose the Omega Seamaster also Tim because the Omega Seamaster case and braccelet design is more modern then the Rolex Submariner classic design. I like the Omega display case back that let the watch owner admire the movement. The Omega Seamaster have the same quality as the Rolex Submariner but cost less.
Both are winners in this comparison. I have small wrists so the Rolex works better for me but both incredible watches. I guess Omega would win solely on availability these days haha.
In my experience, the lug-to-lug measurement is more important for smaller wrists than the diameter. In this case, both watches are actually almost identical lug-to-lug, as the Omega has shorter lugs with pivoting endlinks, so they should actuall fit about the same in a smaller wrist.
I'm seriously considering putting off the Moonwatch for this even though I have a 1st gen 41mm Bond chronometer. But id get the black so it's ok to own 2 Seamasters right? Pays homage in a confident modern way. Dynamite looking watch.
8:15 are you sure? I'm pretty sure the sea master is completely in house. I found this statement on omegas website. "Every part of an OMEGA watch is made in Switzerland, which goes far beyond the industry’s required standard".
I’m one of those watch guys that loves omega. And boast about its availability which is true cause I’m not ale to walk into a Rolex boutique and buy a model that’s semi popular. That’s a bummer....but I also secretly would love to own a Rolex sub. I won’t ever play the game of having to spend $ 20-40 grand on Rolex watches I don’t want, just to get the one I do. I still secretly want one though. With that said, I’m close to getting the omega in this video in blue! Thanks for the video
The Omega certainly looks more appealing when side by side here. Also in terms of bang for your buck, the Omega wins HANDS DOWN. I'm biased because I own the Omega though... The Omega is amazing in person. There are just details you can't appreciate looking at it through a computer monitor. Plus, at the time of this comment, the Omega can be purchased brand new for almost 1/3rd the price. $4250 through jomashop, vs. $12,000 for the Rolex.
Picked mine up yesterday (seamaster) and I love it. Blue rubber strap, grey wave dial. While the sub is a great watch, I love my seamaster as tech wise and looks it suits me better. The sub is a great watch as well, but after trying some on and seeing them in person, seems too common. I like that it's only watch geeks who know what omega watches are and I can wear it without the branding and status that Rolex has. Best purchase and possibly the only watch I wear for a long time.
Agree , Omega is more interesting in every aspect , I like the waves on the dial , the lack of the cyclops eye , beautiful design , more modern than Rolex which seems a little boring and stuck in the past
Always wanted a Breitling when I was a teen... Then a Sub, when I started my trainee... Now, I'm adult, team Omega and love my black 2018 SMP 😊💕 This new dial is awesome 😍
Tried on both, in plain steel and two tone... went for the Seamaster in steel and Sedna gold on the bracelet. Felt a lot more ‘special’ and refined to me even after the AD’s attempts to convince me how lucky I should feel to pay more for less with the Rolex. Wasn’t buying it, personally.
i am a big fan of the sub but as an Englishman the heritage alone is enough to convince me to buy the omega. I just wish they'd do away with the manual helium escape valve for an automatic like on the ploprof.
Because they can, as simple as that. If it was the other way around, meaning Omega with Rolex's brand equity, surely they will do the same. It's the same with all other luxury items; bags, shoes, cars. Cheers!
@@algorithm007ify meaning people pay the Rolex marketing budget. Pretty stupid IMO. By the way; the omega is the better looking watch, so it's my choise.
Great review! How would you feel about the new Seamaster compared to a 16622 Rolex Yachtmaster? I've recently decided to buy one of the two but can't for the life of me decide between the more robust movement and newer design of the Omega or the ahead of its time, platinum/rolesium bezel Rolex with the classic 3135.
Most Rolex owners have to keep the faith...Especially since they have invested so much into it. They defend their faith goes deep down inside, they know that it's a bad value proposition. If you want a high end diver, get a Blancpain FF bathyscaph
@@algorithm007ify thanks for your opinion. But rolex appeals to me like none other. The brand is very infectious. Once that bug catches it is very hard to look into other brands.
Wow, Thank you very much for the comparison! Although the Sub is the all time dream watch, I like the new Omega Sea Master much more, and was going though the comments expecting the majority will vote for the Sub over the the Sea Master, I was very surprised to see most of the comments are actually seconding my personal opinion and liking the SM more! and for that I thank you again
I don't get the Helium escape valve on the Omega. Doesn't the fact that you have to open it manually defeat its purpose? The Helium Escape Valve is there to prevent catastrophic failure during decompression after saturation diving (i.e. living in a hyperbaric chamber). This doesn't occur "under water", but in a decompression chamber, and unscrewing the crown has the same effect. The reason the Helium escape valve is there, is so that you don't need to unscrew the crown, so that it will protect your watch in case you forget to take manual action. On the Sea Dweller, the helium escape valve requires no manual action. It's always fully operational.
Great comparison... the sub looks way more timeless, although the new seamaster is a home run I don’t think it will age the same, a little busy looking
The dial on the Omega is really reflective, as in the dial not the crystal. Like annoyingly so I think, i've never noticed that before, maybe the lighting in the vid I guess. I really want to like the Omega, take the valve off and I'm a buyer for sure I think. But i'd stick with the sub if I had to pick one, though i'd personally prefer the Hulk. It has more character to me and I love the sunburst green. Im sure it's the boring safe choice but there is something to that heritage and history when you look at a watch like the Sub, I kinda feel like the Seamaster would not feel like a watch for life, but a watch for now only. The sub is a timeless classic that i'd want to keep forever.
Omega; improve the bezel movement, improve the date window so we can see the date, change your skeleton hands so we can read time after 20 minutes in darkness. Next we can compare the Seamaster to Rolex Submariner. Then how are we going to deal with the Iconic recognition of the Sub as the most famous diver's watch in the world. Well let's give Omega next 50 years to change the image and see what happens.
Hi Tim, Nice review as always👍🏻 i hate the helium escape valve but i see your points about the SMP. Could you do a Omega Aqua Terra vs. Zenith Defy? Im searching for a non diver on a factory rubber strap with a clasp. Or if you could only tell your idea maybe. Ive already checked Sinn’s website wich i know you like these days...😊
I’d like to see you compare a Calibre de Cartier Diver vs. a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. Preferably both with blue dials 🔵🔵 and with bracelets rather than straps. Who knows, maybe even toss a CFB ScubaTec in there too!
You forgot about availability, that alone makes the Omega the winner lol. Nobody with dignity and self-respect has got time to play Rolex's game.

it's for me fantastic and that’s why we have so many choices for so many. For me it’s one of the few I like from the big watch names.
it's me Agreed, the bracket is ugly and helium escape value looks silly so Rolex wins here for me.
@@rfsghsdjfyfh the Rolex "bubble" above the date ruins it for me as well. Other than that I really like the Rolex look. Too bad it has been overdone by millions of Chinese copies . I went for Seiko because what's the point of getting a Rolex diver if everyone thinks it's a fake
Bravo!!!
Does anyone else think the Rolex looks foggy?
This is because they infamously refuse to use AR coating on all their watches. Some speculate it’s so the crystal reflects light more to be more bling etc... oh and AR does not age well I have heard
@@duncanleckie5639 I think its for bling factor..unfortunately. Sadly, modern Rolex is now faux luxury as opposed to a well built tool watch.
Real scuba divers have 0 problems with the bezel on the Omega with gloves on 🤷🏽♂️.
Yeah because they are using a dive computer instead.
@@t28mcd Valid point 😂
@@t28mcd Exactly, all the watch reviews go on about divers using these but I doubt any real professional or serious divers do
The logical choice would be the Submariner but i’m so in love with the omega‘s dial... hate the hands on both watches though.
Classic I feel exactly the same. Perhaps I’ll go with Tudor when the time comes (no pun intended).
The Mercedes hands are absolutely hideous on the Rolex...
The logical choice is the Omega. The emotional choice would be the Rolex. Given the price difference for the watches.
The logical choice is OMEGA
There is no way to choose between the two so I choose both, and a Speedmaster just in case I'm not in the mood to wear either of the others. And a Tudor 58.
That crystal on the omega is beautiful, almost looks like it's not even there. Whole Rolex still has that gross white haze on every single watch.
It is beautiful but the double AR does get scratched.
Traded Submariner in for the Omega Seamaster diver 300 m in blue, steel band and made three times what I paid....got tired of the Sub after 20 years. Love the new Omega.
Do you wear your Seamaster with a suit?
Definitely from your best videos Tim, very good!
Thank you, Rodolfon! I love both watches, so my enthusiasm for each drove the production of this feature.
Best,
Tim
I am going for the Seamaster. Modern Design, better technology and I don´t like the Rolex policy.
David Yule 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I like the feel of the Seamaster over the Submariner
We like how you think, thanks for sharing!
- WatchBox Team
Yes, the bezel on the Seamaster is hard to get a purchase on, especially with gloves. However, there's the elephant in the room --you don't want the bezel to move once you are underwater,, or you will die--
I've a question : the valve to expel helium gas of the OMEGA model can be opened full time ?
It shouldn't be open full time simply because it becomes more vulnerable to shearing or impact. Best practice is to open the valve only when needed -- exactly like unscrewing the crown of the watch.
Best,
Tim
The helium valve Is only needed if you have finished a deep sea dive lasting weeks and you are now sitting in a decompression chamber bored surrounded by a mixture of helium and oxygen. Totally pointless to almost everyone. That you can open it during the dive is not a feature. It's saying that if it's left open during the dive your watch will still be ok. They fixed a weak point that doesn't exsist on the Rolex.
@@stephens2r338 : thank you. It was just only curiosity. I think that conceptually is better the SEA DWELLER valve system.
Thanks again.
I sold my rolexes because of the SMP...
Watch Aficionado I have two subs left. Going to sell them soon. I usually wear even my older SMP 2254 more than them.
An easy to turn Bezel is also prone to beeing turned accidentally.
Both great watches but is the sub 3k better than SMP?
Omega all the way. It's been well received from a lot of critics as one of the best release in 2018. I'll be buying one soon.
I'm thinking the same thing!
Nice video. I got the Omega blue dial recently. It is amazing!
Paul A enjoy it Paul 😍👍🏼
Would this omega hold it value or go up?
Just got the seamaster 300 blue dial from Govberg and couldn't be happier. It's gorgeous
8:15 are you sure? I'm pretty sure the sea master is completely in house. I found this statement on omegas website. "Every part of an OMEGA watch is made in Switzerland, which goes far beyond the industry’s required standard".
if the Rolex is considered all "in house" then so is the omega.
Maybe it's the camera angle but when you do the side on profile the Omega looks slimmer than the Rolex?
would it be possible to get a Submariner vs 300m (ref 233 vintage reissue) review?
I’m one of those watch guys that loves omega. And boast about its availability which is true cause I’m not ale to walk into a Rolex boutique and buy a model that’s semi popular. That’s a bummer....but I also secretly would love to own a Rolex sub. I won’t ever play the game of having to spend $ 20-40 grand on Rolex watches I don’t want, just to get the one I do. I still secretly want one though.
With that said, I’m close to getting the omega in this video in blue!
Thanks for the video
Why does the Sub have no words/writings on the back case? Is there any specific reason behind this?
No competition, rolex taking an antique but well made overpriced knife to a gunfight.
Gotta be said, the Rolex, albeit a timeless design, looks boring and underwhelming next to the omega. It's omega anyday from me
Is there a better watch than omega sp300 in blue color?
Just got mine on the 3rd March 19. AWESOME
That's great to hear Kevin!
- WatchBox Team
I love them BOTH, for different reasons. So I decided to buy the Omega 2 years after I bought my Sub. Never been happier!
You coulda compared the blue 300m to the black sub. This black one is nice tho too. So is the white dial.
The cyclops is a bit getting used to, but I would buy the Rolex at listprice, but the Omega is tempting.
Now, I'm adult, team Omega and love my black 2018 SMP 😊💕
This new dial is awesome 😍
Tried on both, in plain steel and two tone... went for the Seamaster in steel and Sedna gold on the bracelet. Felt a lot more ‘special’ and refined to me even after the AD’s attempts to convince me how lucky I should feel to pay more for less with the Rolex. Wasn’t buying it, personally.
Hey Tim - Where is that BIG correction for the Nautilus? This video is now two years old and the Nautilus has had quite the run?
That which has the most meaning, the root of the issue is what I focus on. Rank ordering. Not “playing” anything. What are your motives?
i am a big fan of the sub but as an Englishman the heritage alone is enough to convince me to buy the omega. I just wish they'd do away with the manual helium escape valve for an automatic like on the ploprof.
Scully couldn’t agree more, it’s a wart on an otherwise beautiful watch
Love this guy’s knowledge of watches and the way he describes them. Great videos.
LOVE the Omega! No contest between the two now. Plus the Omega has AR coating where the Sub does not.
Alan L great comment 👍🏼
I like the date placement at 6 o clock. It is so much more symmetrical. And the cyclopse on the Rolex is something I am not sure I am a fan of.
why is the rolex almost double price? real reasons please (no prestige crap etc.) i am waiting...
Marketing...
Omega only need to make it 40mm, then it will sell like hotcakes. Rolex know that
Great review!
The way this guy delivers the information is awesome. Greatcity!
I waited ages for this! Thank you Tim :D
Thanks, Tim, for comparing the two and showing again the Rolex is still the watch to have.
Biased as I have just purchased one, the omega price point and quality just beat the Rolex!
Nice! How have you liked wearing it so far? - WatchBox Team
Buy the Rolex and you will think otherwise.
People talk about how ugly the helium escape valve is on the Seamaster, but the cyclops on Rolex's are just as ugly.
omega if it were 40mm would be perfect
Submariner for me. A classic and a sports watch. Multipurpose use. Dont forget the glidelock. Loving my submariner no date.
Most Rolex owners have to keep the faith...Especially since they have invested so much into it. They defend their faith goes deep down inside, they know that it's a bad value proposition. If you want a high end diver, get a Blancpain FF bathyscaph
@Fernando Guerrero thanks
@@algorithm007ify thanks for your opinion. But rolex appeals to me like none other. The brand is very infectious. Once that bug catches it is very hard to look into other brands.
@Fernando Guerrero I own one here, best Sub.
Glad to see the seamaster take the crown, and it's less than half the price
I'm probably biased because I have one, but I like the Sub better. I do like the Omega though. I might get one of those too.
and when you do, you may sell your rolexes.. (Like I have).
@@algorithm007ify NOPE!
Jim K that’s what I would have said 4 weeks ago
@@algorithm007ify Not selling any of my Rolexes.
@@JamesK1963 You will sell the Omega, lol
Tried on a Sub at the mall from the 90s. Felt too much like my Seiko diver. Love my Citizen Promaster. Got the Aqua Terra.
Great comparison... the sub looks way more timeless, although the new seamaster is a home run I don’t think it will age the same, a little busy looking
If you only want one watch buy the sub
Otherwise the omega a great value choice for a secondary watch not sure you could pull it off as an all rounder
Solid points! Thanks for your input!

Omega 300: diver vs Chrono, what's your choise?
Omega; improve the bezel movement, improve the date window so we can see the date, change your skeleton hands so we can read time after 20 minutes in darkness. Next we can compare the Seamaster to Rolex Submariner. Then how are we going to deal with the Iconic recognition of the Sub as the most famous diver's watch in the world. Well let's give Omega next 50 years to change the image and see what happens.
Hi Tim,
Nice review as always👍🏻 i hate the helium escape valve but i see your points about the SMP.
Woooo!
That would be nice! Thanks for your suggestions!
