Its been a while since I bought designer fragrances myself.
Mannn… I been feeling like this for a few months. Like the designers smell cool, especially when you sample them at the store, but once they dry down there’s just something about them that leaves me underwhelmed.

Can we acknowledge that its not just a designer thing.. niche and high end are just as bad. They are releasing flankers and at ridiculous prices (aventus being a prime example). Theres niche houses releasing designer level scents but at niche prices.

U are Absolutely Correct about the Polo 67, I just got it yesterday for my Brother's&Nephews for Father's Day this yr. 2024 in Macy's. My cologne Expert told me they sold out the 1st day of it's release a few weeks ago. It's smells sooooo good!!!!

I've been on this way for a few years now, but I kept looking anyway because prices were still pretty far below niche. Now they're approaching, and in some cases, topping entry level niche money. That begs the question of why buy the 12th version of a decade old hit, when you can pay equal money for real artisan blends, using better ingredients, that behave and outperform version 12.0. Utter lack of creativity, the tiresome conveyor belt of flankers, and prices that don't align....at all! Nope. And I doubt the trend stops until non collectors, and casual buyers are eventually priced out, and the bottom line is affected. GREAT vid today!! Needed this.

Bro, you said everything I've been thinking about designers lately! The overdoing of flankers has been my single biggest pet peeve with designers for years now. Wouldn't say I'm totally done with designers, but I can honestly say that 99.9% of the designers I've been picking up lately are older releases that have been on my radar for a while that I haven't bought yet and can find at discounters or on eBay. Aside from that, most of my purchases have been niche, clones, and indie brands. Granted, there are flankers that are better than the originals, but trying to keep up on every new elixir intense extreme parfum that I see getting peddled across UA-cam gets tiring.
I agree with you, I have been getting back up bottles like D&G The One EDP, Prada L'Homme, Givenchy Gentleman EDT D&G Light Blue (It is a classic) Boss Bottled EDP(I really like it so had to get a back up bottle) and been shopping discounters.

wow bro you summed up my feelings to the t. and my purchase lol. I ended up smelling all the same ones you smelled and had the same reaction. Smelled the polo 67 and said this is pretty good. different enough. Asked my rep the price, I IMMEDIATELY copped. Ive worn it twice and it is pretty good. nice easy reach clean fresh and inoffensive.

This is why I started dabbling into niche! Designers are putting out fragrances at niche prices from discounters so I’ve been picking up niche fragrances here and there.

Well said and great advice. I'm just getting into fragrances and have already been spending way too much on fragrances that are really unimpressive. I thought it was my inexperience. My last three fragrances have been niche, and although they are a bit more expensive, I am much happier with them than the designers. Keep it ready, my D9 brother!

In my experience with fragrances, ive learned a few things. Probably the most important thing ive learned is there are many nuances to fragrances. But in the end, there is only a few dozen smells out there. So once you own that smell, don't go by a similar smell. Because at the end of the day, the average person will not smell those small nuances. it's just gonna smell the same as your other fragrance.

I can definitely agree with you on the POLO 67. I bought it the day it was released as a blind buy and definitely not disappointed at all. It smells so good. I love it. The scent reminds of a super light D&G Light Blue but will still illuminate. I'm going to have to double up on it.

Only colognes i bought from macy was le male elixer and le male le parfum and boss bottled elixer and i waited for sale. Prices are so high at macy that when these colognes hit discounters they sell out over night. Picked up 1 million elixer tester bottle on ebay for $80 and im glad i waited 😂

you gotta know how to put a price tag on items you purchase not just colognes, clothing as well based on quality and uniqueness. but these price tags be wild. I make sure before i purchase any cologne that its quality, versatile & unique for my chemistry. If not i just buy used colognes or items

In my opinion Lv frags dont really go under designers because they have much higher quality and cost the same as niche and the same goes for private line like ysl babycat and tuxedo etc

Excellent work, the current retail of designer fragrances is making niche looking like great value for money, and you are spot on about flankers, I think some brands just change one note, bring it out as a flanker just to sell more at retail before the discounters stock them, once that happens it's time for another flanker to come out, bordering on being a con.

U have to try to new John Varvatos XX Intense . Its smells so alluring and is a Sillage monster with insane longevity. It’s an edp and is $137.

I agree. However there are some that have room in our scent den, specifically those at $75 and less (see Versace). But when the asking price of others are in the mid $100.... I'm sorry.... Time to find a decent niche fragrance.
Years ago I used Stamino Black Cologne and received many compliments from girls, they discontinued it, but It was very, very good! They should bring it back.

Great video brother . I’m also super frustrated with these designer fragrances. I went in to Macys recently to look for le male le parfum and they still didn’t have it after months of waiting . The saleswoman introduced me to the ysl elixir I purchased it along with a sample bottle in case I wanted to return it and sure enough I did return the bottle . The smell was nothing special at all and didn’t even last past two hours . But isn’t this an elixir?? So I got my money back and purchased le male le parfum which is the one I wanted initially and that too disappointed me …. I’m about to go back to the fragrance body oils lol

We’re on the same page! I bought the 4.2 Polo 67 and absolutely love it! The pineapple opening and woody dry down is amazing! I’ve been searching for a Pineapple non Aventus/Nishane scent! This one lasts 8ths on my skin and skin scent over 16hrs! My 25 yo daughter loves it! This is my only purchase in the last 5 months! Love ya!

This time last year I got a decent amount of bottles but this year so far I have only gotten two bottles. Being more selective, especially with the designer. Holloween Man X from Jomashop and Burberry Hero Parfum 5oz bottle which I am really happy with both.
Yea I feel the same way I actually love the Lina Rosa line up for its versatility but I'm not paying 170 I'll wait till it hit discounters, the bottle is fire.

Prada Luna Rossa Ocean Le Parfum is actually really nice. It reminds me of CH Men Prive, but better.
they mustve done some market research where if you just offer someone the same thing just al ittle bit different they're more likely to find something they like and would purchase. Versus for example showing someone Prada Lhomme Intense, Prada Carbon, and Prada luna rossa sport

I completely understand your frustration because Polo, Prada, and YSL are my favorite designer fragrances and I was about to buy Polo 67 but when I sampled it I'm not gonna lie my feelings were hurt it smelled so similar to Azzaro the most wanted Parfum and that was a skin test then I sampled the Prada 😢 its no different from the EDP version and the YSL elixir smelled like a stronger version of YSL EDT. It's all a gimmick and at this point I'm going to stick with my niche fragrances

Hilarious. . . When you said you got one, I lifted up the box of Polo ‘67 I got on sale yesterday at Macys and said, “I bet it’s this!” I enjoy designers and I enjoy good flankers. But the only two new ones in the past 6 months I liked enough to get are Polo 67 and Valentino Green.
I actually like the YSL Exlir. But I also only have 2 of YSL Y line. I thought it last long and smelled good. I have that, and the YSL EDP Intense.
I picked up Polo 67 when it came out at Macy's, only paid 92 bucks plus got a free Polo 67 hat

I went to smell that New Prada yesterday & I had to come back to comment you were ABSOLUTELY 1000% percent correct! It is NOWHERE NEAR the price point! It's definitely the weakest scent from the Luna Rossa line.

I picked up 3 6.7 oz bottles of ultra male, 2 6.7 of le male le parfum, and 1 4.2 oz of le male elixir. Plus a 5oz of Chanel allure homme sport. I’m done this year lol hoping I can sell ultra male in a few years for a lot more if they discontinue it

Last designer I picked up was Givenchy Gentleman Reserve Prive, and it’s because it was one I forgot about somehow. Smelt it in Ulta and popped on it. That was several months ago. Since then I have not been impressed. I did get a the YSL Myself 5 ml when it dropped by no other major buys
My last designer purchase was the scent magnetic, nothing has really interested me and prices are getting ridiculous.
As I’ve matured in the fragrance community, I’ve learned for designer fragrance since just to buy the clones, and I only buy niche for things I actually love
Yeah it’s ridiculous. I pretty much avoid designers now, the only ones I’m thinking about getting is the Brioni line, they have impressed me from the decants I’ve gotten.
