You can actually hear the air dump way before the biker reaches the tracks. That engineer was paying really good attention and predicted the following events well. The biker might have actually gotten hit had the engineer not slammed the brakes.
So...the bell then...right? Electronic speaker or not, it's still literally referred to as a bell since it is in the same location that a regular mechanical bell would be at@@alvit123
Oh my goodness that person that crossed the track with his bike, he could have fallen down and then he would have had a real good picture of underneath the train and he wouldn't have been able to see it cuz he would have been gone 😮😢they need to get some like security guards out there to say "hey step away, step away... because obviously people don't read the sign that says "do not cross the yellow line" that's what I say, but I'm just a Grandma Railfanner. Too busy with his GoPro in a world of his own. “Oh no that’s my train, I’d better run across the tracks just a few feet in front of it. I’m sure no-one will mind”
This station design provides no significant line of demarcation, barrier, or separation between passengers and the train. No handrails or barricades, no pedestrian overpass, no difference in elevation or raised platform, nothing but a damn yellow line. Apparently, the architect failed to take into account the abject stupidity of people, when they are distracted or in a rush. Yes, the person with the bike was, in fact, a dumbass. What was the designer's excuse?
Still . . . that man can't miss seeing the HUGE train coming and just how CLOSE IT WAS. That's a ' no brainer '. Which is how that man acted, like a person with no little to no brain. He was "just" trying to cut across so as not to miss the train. Foolish man.
Imagine if the guy tripped and fell or if the engineer wasn't anticipating him to run across the tracks. I can't imagine with the F40PH console it is easy to see out to the far left window from the engineer perspective. Great job to the engineer and crew
If I were the biker I would have stayed where I was and asked if they could open a door from the platform I was on. Better than delaying the WHOLE TRAIN.
The engineer applied the emergency brake, which dumps all the air(at 0:23) that is holding the brake shoes off the wheels, allowing them to be applied at full force, hence why the train is stopped for a few minutes after to allow the main air reservoirs to fill up again with air necessary to release the brakes.
I’ve seen people o this at the crossing to like trying to beet the train This giy made a made move that is a illegal to do And we wouldn’t want hime to make this train deraile lol We had enough derailments we wouldn’t want anther one
Another example of stupid people around tracks, however, The US should start doing elevated platforms, that low rise platforms are too dangerous, they are prohibited in Europe. Greetings from Spain!✌
Interesting. I've lived in California all my life and I never heard of that. Still, I do agree with the other that the man is "Stupid". Foolish, stupid move of that man.
I don’t think the bicycle rider was trying to get himself in trouble or get himself hurt, I think he just wanted to meet up closely with the rest of the passengers.
This is in California, where in the last several years, they've banned trains from honking due to "noise complaints" by residents near crossings. There used to be great horn shows in downtown San Diego, but they've stopped.

Can we talk about the Beautiful colors and quality of the video combined with the crystal clear sound?? May i ask which camera you use?

The bell on that Amtrak train is called an "electronic Speaker" It's very common on many Trains Including the trains that are owned by Amtrak

Let the man on the train smh 🤦🏽♂️
no way he just caused such a headache for passengers, crews and station workers as well as an emergency air break application.
Maybe that will teach him not to do that again.
I think we found the biker that decided to run across the track
Wow the train was going so slow the driver could of kept going and still would of missed the biker.
😂🤣
All it takes is him tripping and this would've been different.

That guy with the bike almost got hit by a train and he didn’t get in the train. Cops should be there to arrest him.
Does someone understand what is being said in the loudspeaker while he is crossing the rails?
"Now arriving San Joaquins Train #718."

If this happened anywhere else, the driver would have blasted the horn. American trains are so aggressive with honking.
They have to be because people are idiots, as shown in this video
