Her father's Lebanese and her mother's Colombian, and she can belly dance cause she learnt it from her Arab grandmother who taught her. Also belly dancing originated from Egypt.
@@GaryHField oh no, I don't even think indians belly dance. But it's a well known fact here in Africa that belly dancing is rooted in Egyptian culture.
The majority of the costumes and outfits featured in the video belong to the Carnaval de Barranquilla (Colombia) her hometown, some of which include the white dress Shakira dances in, and the colorful flags.
Shakira’s from Barranquilla (Colombia), which is literally a Caribbean coastal town… She’s half-Lebanese on her father’s side of the family & she’s always been proud of her Arabic heritage.
Belly dancing originated from Egypt but it's become culturally significant to middle eastern countries including lebanon (where her fathers from) If you listen to her music, you'll notice a lot of middle Eastern influences
Had a good laugh watching you suspect wild things about Libanese, Caribbean, and Colombian cultures and geography! 😂 Great reaction. And I love Shakira!
Shakira is a trained professional belly dancer. She's also a certified genius with an I.Q. of 140. She speaks 5 different languages fully. She's a bonafide tomboy who loves skateboarding, playing drums and guitar. She is Lebanese and Columbian hence she was hired to write and perform the FIFA world cup theme song when it was played in Africa. Since Lebanon is on the continent of Africa she also has roots there. Her FIFA song Waka Waka was the only World Cup Theme song to chart on the hot 100.
Lebanon is in Asia. Look it up in a map. South of Turkey, West from Syria, North of Israel. Shakira was hired to sing the WC2010 song because at the time she was the best selling female singer in the world.
Omg guys thank u for 2nd week 1. Objection Tango 2. Waka Waka 3. Ojos Asi live performance from Oral Fixation tour 4. Beautiful Liar (with Beyonce's) 5. La Tortura
Shakira is an Arabic name, she has Lebanese roots from her father's side, and from her mother's side she has Spanish roots (from Cataluña, the Barcelona region), but she was born and raised in Colombia. This kind of "mixture" is not rare in Latin America, the Americas is a territory built by migration, you can find so many people with this kind of roots... in my case, just to give you an example, I was born in Chile, but my father is Palestinian and my mother is chilean, but with Croatian and Spanish parents...
Hey, hola. One year later but still, i can support your theory since i'm also Chilean and my roots are deeply Italian, my grandfather was a migrant who married a Chilean woman in the 40's and ended up making his life in Tomé 🖤
Pleaseeeee let the second week of Shakira be of her 90’s songs: 1. Ojos Así 2. Pies Descalzos, Sueños Blancos 3. Ciega, Sordomuda 4. No Creo 5. Inevitable
Yes..belly danceing is very popular in the middle East..we practice it alot in parties and weddings like an expression of happiness and joy.. it's very normal thing to us but without a dote we do not do it as good as shakira dose because it took a lot of training and skill to look that perfect..
yall definitely did a bit of research about the song such as haiti and colombia...the song came out in 2006 i mean youtube was not really the platform like it is now back then so it actually would have gotten more views....gotta give some props to wyclef, wyclef is such an underated rapper and producer...he is definitely one of the hiphop ogs that people not know...he was really famous in early 90s to 2010s untill he decided to devote himself to his country and was almost got assasinated for going against the government...man we need another shakira wyclef jean song right now
Please do Shakira week 2: Rockira Week. Here's my selection of her most iconic rockier Singles: 5.- Objection (tango) [2001] 4.- Empire [2014] 3.- Don't Bother [2005] 2.- Pies Descalzos, Sueños Blancos [1995] 1.- Inevitable [1998] You've seen Shakira the popstar. Now you gotta see her more alternative/rocker side wich gave her a lot of credibility here in Latin America before going into international superstardom.

hi, im from Colombia too as far a i know, the costumes and the scenes where are bunch of people dancing is inspired by the Carnaval de Barranquilla, one of the most important carnivals of Latinamerica which takes place at the city where Shakira grew up the spanish phrase she sings says "en Barranquilla se baila así (in Barranquilla we dance like this)", and in fact haha at the minute 2:08 the background colours are the colombian flag
As an atypical American (one who actually has knowledge of, and appreciation for, geography), I enjoyed your discussion of geography to try to understand culture. It was even more entertaining than your actual reaction 🙂 Thanks!
Belly dancing originated in Egypt which is a part of North Africa but also kinda a part of the ùiddle east. Belly dancing is basically North African and Middle eastern. Shakira's dad is lebanese and Lebanon is located in the middle east.
hola a pasado tiempo pero es una de licia oir su musica para mi la unica cantante latino americna completa reina gracias por tus opiniones hasta hora sigue es como una caja majica 🥰
Man she has some of the most beautiful music videos ever, if you're coming back to check her out maybe take a look at: La Tortura, Loca, Did it Again, Don't Bother and Te Aviso Te Anuncio
This was the last #1 on a long running TV chart show here in the UK called Top of the Pops and oh boy, people were not happy. It didn't bowl anybody over, at least not the ones who grew up with the show or were with it from the early years. I can't remember if they were even in studio to perform this, to send the show out, they only showed this music video and wrapped up. Just a flat, bland end to what the show was and a whimper to the decades it was on air. That being said, I like the song regardless!
No, belly dancing is not from India or Pakistan, it's from the Middle East, it's been practiced for many decades. And yes, Lebanon is in the Middle East and Shakira''s father is Lebanese, although she doesn't speak arabic (which is the language spoken in Lebanon), she has always shown pride of her middle eastern roots too, she eats arabic food, she loves some arabic singers, she has covered some iconic arabic songs, she has a lot of songs with middle eastern influence and she has visited and played in many parts of the Middle East, even in the Pyramids of Giza. She has always shown her connection to the middle eastern culture through her belly dancing, even before she crossed over to the anglo market, when she was only singing in Spanish, she had middle eastern influenced songs and used to belly dance too. Although Hips Don't Lie is mostly an homage to Colombia and Colombian culture, it has a ton of influence from Colombian music, etc., it's also a signature Shakira song and represents her middle eastern side too, I mean, it's a song about her hips, she belly dances and when she performs it she always does the zaghrouta. About the Caribbean thing, I mean, while Colombia isn't technically part of the Caribbean 'cause it's in mainland south America, Shakira's hometown "Barranquilla" is actually in the coast to the Caribbean Sea so it actually has some of it in its culture too. For example there are some games called the "Central American and Caribbean Games" in which Colombia participates too, they were even hosted in Shakira's hometown Barranquilla in 2018 and she performed there. The costumes you see in the video are inspired in Barranquilla's carnival.
Nice. It would be cool to see you guys do a reaction of 'Dance like this' by Wyclef Jean ft. Claudette Ortiz of City High. THE ORIGINAL VERSION OF HIPS DON'T LIE.

Egypt? I thought it originated from India.
@@GaryHField oh no, I don't even think indians belly dance. But it's a well known fact here in Africa that belly dancing is rooted in Egyptian culture.
Don't get it twisted. Shakira can dance mostly ANYTHING and it's because she's LATINA. We are the best dancers in the world!
