Definately Niseko, however it’s hard to find low budget accommodations I would recon. Asahidake and Furano is too small for such a long visit I would say.
Great video! Question about what the touring at asahidake is like? what is the terrain like there? We are experienced at touring but going to new areas is always a challenge. Do you have to go above the ropetoe (lots of alpine) to get decent snow or is there touring laterally and more at treeline?
It was too poor visibility for us to tour up to the top, but I would guess its really nice terrain. Decent skiing below tree line in case of bad weather, however the steeper parts of the descent is fairly short, but really good. Would recommend the place since it also felt like so remote from civilisation.
I have done x20 times summitting Asahidake in winter. Use crampons (not ski crampons) after c. 1800M to the summit. From the cable car terminal, a flat section then start climbing very gently. No technical hazard. Watch out the visibility. People get lost when skiing or walking down in bad visibility because of the shape of the mountain. When claiming or walking down, stay closer to the gas vents (sulfer smells will help) - i.e. stay as close as possible to the ridge, if you cannot see anything. Skiing down the slope you hiked up is not recommended as the southern slope is icy (very hard ice) and a lot of surface irregularity exist because of the wind. The best and more reliable section to ski down from the summit is inside the huge central gully. But directly entering from the summit (possible after going down about 50M or less beyond the summit) is tricky and dangerous because of the ice and staircase like entry points. If you fall, you will slide down about 200M and probably hit some rocks badly. A safer and more reliable entry point is about 200M down from the summit (the way you hiked up). You'd better check that point while going up. Once you enter the gully, you just ski down until you come to a flat part (from 2100M to 1700M). Deep enough power at lower part while the upper part is slightly icy. Skiing down from the terminal area is fun and many choices are possible and even if visibility is low, it can be done. Trust your ski and trust the depth of the snow. There is one area known for avalanche risks. That area is on the south of the cable car. Many people ski there as the powder is deep and slope does not look that risky (when the condition is good, it is easy skiing down). The temperature at the summit can be -25C and can be windy. There are some rocks you can shelter if needed just before the summit. Have fun.

Thank you! Disclaimer: I can only review Niseko, Furano and Asahidake from first-hand experienced. Boring answer, it depends. If you want other side activities besides skiing, Niseko probably best since it’s the largest resort. However still very good skiing but fairly commercialised. In case of a bad snow year which we had, it’s hard competition of the powder. It is really expensive in Niseko, but we stayed at a motel which was not as pricy called Grandpas lodge. If you like less commercialised places and more skitouring we had great experience at Asahidake which more remote. However, all in all I would rate Niseko the best in case of a regular snow year
It’s from Sandan Yama close to Furano, only accessible by ski touring. About 1,5 h ride with public transport from Furano. Maybe 50 min if you rent a car.

Well done, great footage....l toured those areas as well, and can attest as true, all is as you have shown....Except l skied it all waist deep!
Spent two weeks in Japan in January, really need to go back in the coming years and ride more & bigger lines in Daisetsuzan.

We had a little stop there before taking the bus back to Furano where we stayed.
While there's a time an a place for professional ski movies, nothing beats a home made pow ski cut.

GoPro hero 8, superview does the job for having both horizon and ski tips. Some of the clips are shot with a GoPro max though
