“Thugs” in a Death Wish movie always seem to be dressed like leather daddies, jazzercisers, or Paula Abdul backup dancers. The thuggery scared me when I was a kid watching these movies, but the appearance of the thugs makes me laugh now.
Times do change. What they did in the video today is called sexual harassment and it surely would cause a reaction on people nearby and get the police's attention. They'd end up beaten, arrested or even shot to death. I still prefer the Bronson's approach though.
In New Orleans after hurricane Katrina, the bad guys who stayed behind to loot and pillage kept shooting at helicopters that were trying to bring in aid. Some unit (I don’t know what) was sent in and told to give them one chance to surrender. If they don’t, then wipe them out. They didn’t surrender. I was working property claims there after the hurricane and was shocked when I heard on the radio that law enforcement had killed over a dozen gang members in a shootout earlier that day. Of course, years later the families of the gang members were sueing.
Great film. Like the way Nirvana (tall bloke with the curly hair) is harassing people on the bus but as soon as he gets to Charlie, he backs off. Bronson had that air about him. If Kersey was a real-life vigilante, the public would be behind him 100% and no jury would convict him. If they did? Anarchy.
