When I first watched this, I thought Mandalore was reaching. Like, okay, the artist re-used some creature designs, doesn't mean the games are linked. But as we head deeper into the Marathon lore hole, it becomes clear just how INSANE early Bungie was. I don't know how the lead writer had time to make video games when he must have been on so much LSD he could see through space and time.
I think that was just the style at the time, look at some early Elder Scrolls lore, daggerfall mostly. If said just straight up sounds like schizo ramblings but is still damn interesting.
@@acrab6527 The worst part to me is that now even the fans of games will foam at the mouth when a game isn't designed to appeal to them personally. It makes me feel like devs with passion can't even make a game they want to make without irrationally angry people coming out the woodwork the second the game gets noticed by the public eye.
after the Marathon and Myth videos, I recommend checking out his video on E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy to my knowledge, it's the source of the term "fuller auto"
I think the similar designs are easily explained by the creatures being from a dead god's dream. It could be remembering things it saw when it was in the galaxy at large, but the dream is distorting them into similar, but different creatures, and you only get to see what it was dreaming about in Marathon.
Yeah, it's an accepted theory by some but still debated that the Security Officer, Mjolnir Recon #54, is the protagonist of Pathways into Darkness that was transformed into a cyborg and shipped into the Marathon.
Pathways Into Darkness came out _before_ Marathon 1. 7:45 The headless' pain sound is from a the plover bird. 9:20 The nightmare is the enemy that exploded earlier.
Something i find interesting is that even in the 343 industries era, Halo still has so much relation with Marathon and the rest, like there is the theory that the Precursors are the same as the W'rkncacnter.
18:58 Back in the day, people would discuss their experiences with a game in person. It's wild to remember a time without the internet, but damn does it seem more like a group of friends were collaborating.
Early Bungie games had Homestuck levels of interconnectivity and threads weaving everything together. Then later Bungie... well, it still went the way of Homestuck.
there is a guy online named fleek that I think explained it best. Early time for game studios they made games they wanted to make, really putting that passion in. When they grow big enough they seem to switch to making games they think we want.
Oh yes, it was definitely worth the wait. Love to see people's thoughts about this series. The rabbit hole goes DEEP, especially in the last episode. I hope you'll one day check more obscure works of Mandalore, especially Brigador and Duscers. One day
I really enjoyed hearing you talk about the deeper themes, so feel free to take as much time as you need! The tangent on the nature of reality might not have been spot on but you absolutely were in the right mindset! It'll likely be useful too, because where the first two Marathon games generally throw you for a loop, Infinity is more like a large hadron collider 😅
Every twist and turn of this series got the same reaction out of me. The fact, that even 30 fucking years later, the nerds at Bungie keep making passing references at this quadrilogy, is insane.
32:45 And that, is now your first steps on how interwoven Marathon & the grander Bungie mythos really is, and these elements will only get louder as you go on. kinda puts that edit from the first video into perspective eh?: 'We ALL have a real first floor'....and this, is yours 😶🌫
I have tried watching the credits. Some of the questions can be funny, but I usually never have anything else to add apart from a laugh so I cut that from the video.
I was actually gifted E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy not too long ago and plan to stream it someday, so I'm currently unsure whether to watch the review or play it blind.
@@TheLegitWeebs You will be playing it blind regardless of whether you watch the video, E.Y.E.'s story is delivered like a religious schizophrenic ranting at you in a gunfight.
I guess a good question is how should they have used the box? Just replicating gold is probably a bad idea since gold is universally traded. Anything of value you duplicate will start to lose its value. Honestly if I was Germany then I'd start duplicating giant stacks of rubles to buy oil in Russia. Then giant stacks of US Dollars for weapons and boats. You get the supplies, and you also start to unravel their economy.

"Divine Cybermancy" is such a delightful phrase that tells you everything and nothing you need to know about E.Y. E.
That is a good one and yes I highly recommend... but after Marathon 2 and Infinity. We are barely past the entrance of this rabbit hole.
YES.
