What!? People figured out they don't want to pay exorbitant amounts of money for complete crap clothing and jerseys? Shocking. The return of NFL cards from Topps will be something to watch, though. A LOT of collectors looking forward to Topps NFL cards, not so much from them, but you take what you can get.
Good video. Since Fanatics went on their acquisition sprees, I lve thought Fanatics isnt long for this world. Not a sustainable business model, expecting collectors to keep getting screwed by them
Selling 10% of a company before an IPO makes good business sense. People seem to think that when a stock goes public the stock price shoots up. Not true generally, the ones that do make great stories and we hear about them. The downside is once a firm goes public its financials must be disclosed and a negative cash flow is not appealing to investors. If Rubin is indeed trying to sell 10% and can't - it is a concerning sign.
Sports card market is doomed because of too many releases. What is going on with chrome sapphire cosmic heritage update bowman draft. It's ridiculous. How can anyone keep up!
Bring back the old tops not the cards but the company much better this fantix what is it a dude I know it's a fan thing to me it's stupid it's tops that's it that's all I'm with you
I've stopped buying hobbies and blasters... I haven't bought any new boxes all year.... I've shifted to buying specific singles on eBay. Box prices are too high, for fewer cards. It's frustrating. I'll still buy an occasional Topps Now, but new boxes and breaks? Nope. I'm done.
Exactly I just buy singles and If I had chased those same cards it would have been impossible , the downside is you don't get the surprise of a huge hit but the cards I purchase are all gorgeous
Good call by the way... in the past few weeks he's rolled out Topps-branded items like T-shirts and privately-labeled card supplies like sleeve, top loaders, etc. Things like Topps University and Topps Steaks can't be far behind.
Absolutely fascinating video! Thank you for this. Imagine it was all a ploy to get to the IPO then they dump it…I had never thought about this possibility…obviously not a guarantee, but definitely something worth keeping in mind
Very impressed with your report, especially since you delivered it with more facts and investment understanding rather than nonsense opinions that have a secondary agenda. First video to ever see from you and I am now subscribed. Well done!
It seems that Fanatics wants to control everything and they just aren't capable. I wonder if Burbank Sportscards will regret leaving eBay and moving their inventory to the Fanatics platform.
Topps quality has improved under Fanatics and will be even better once they eliminate off center printing and dinged corners right out of the box. Especially for thicker cards. I am nostalgic and like to collect cards from all the iconic card brands, Topps, Donruss, Leaf. All have been a part of everyone's card collecting lives. Its about the brand and the theme, not just the player and being licensed or not. Fanatics has lot of issues on their website and does sell some rather cheapo apparal.
Topps quality definitely has not improved under Fanatics, so not sure what cards you're looking at. Plus, they have raised all prices and are giving you less packs. The printing process will never eliminate bad corners or dings as it's impossible to do.
There are two primary reasons to want to do an IPO, create exit liquidity or fundraising to grow the business and make acquisitions. I was hoping to see a Fanatics IPO this year but because of private credit and other market forces, I’d be surprised if Fanatics goes public before 2026.
Thanks for sharing. -EDIT- BTW when I started researching I found exactly what I thought might . Not good. I started looking into Parkhust last week thanks to the invisible man.
If they were smart they would listen to you and save their company from that death I enjoy the modern cards I'm 60 years old but they still look cool just like the Evel Knievel I played with when I was a kid many expensive comic books went through my hands as a kid and cards we played with them that's what we did
Well , I can see it , I’m new to this whole game and I have spent thousands on Topps card and have yet to receive one substantial card. Even with random chance , I should have gotten at least one card that was of value ! Anybody else agree?
Massive printing will not generate income for them-it will erode interest in their products and will consequently erode income. The release of too many products is why margins are shrinking. Scaling down is often the recipe for profitability-not scaling up. If they make fewer product-they need fewer staff, it’s less stress and less costly to distribute a lesser amount of products-and the scarcity of the products will end up in better value retention and more interest in their products. There is a reason why companies like Rolex, Audemars Piguet, and Ferrari do not flood the market with their products. They always make slightly less product that there is demand-and consequently-Rolex can charge $13k for a watch made out of stainless steel. That’s high margin profitability.
How can they be losing money? They're printing money with Topps selling out so many products and raising prices on products after pre-ordering ends. And Topps Now has to already be making them tons.
I'm glad this is happening. Fanatics ruined the hobby by getting all the brands exclusive licenses. The amount of money given for the exclusive license is costing and pricing too many people out of the hobby for no reason.
some wrong information here. 1) Funds did not reduce their holdings by 14%, they marked down their existing holdings value by 14%, 2) Rubin said he is not trying to sell $1B of his own stake, but if he were who cares, CEOs sell stock in their company all the time as part of estate planning as the vast majority of their net worth is in company stock.
Let me get off the negativity I appreciate your show I appreciate the information a lot of people like you they hate you because you're telling the truth not us we're in the sport card business because we love it not just for the money Love the art love color they're beautiful looking cards it ain't all about selling them some people do collect them Love your show man keep up the good work always a watcher That's what we are watchers the ones figuring it out because of you❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Fanatics needs money but Fanatics Live isn't even available for Android in Canada. I know that's a small share of the market but how many other small shares are also being neglected? 🤔
If they had focused on actually growing the hobby 10x then they wouldn't be in this position. Instead, they went after making 10x the money right away and drove alot of us collectors out. I used to rip a couple hobby boxes a month and probably 10 to 12 blasters a month. This year, i have ripped 3 blasters of la liga select and zero topps products. They just drove out too many of us.
They might have overextended because they went heavy to secure exclusive rights to a lot of IPs and pro leagues. I would have thought the ipo would give them much needed capital, but fanatics must not feel excited about their profits at the moment
IS there a ne story out that your basing this on? These references are from articles and reports over the summer, and the company commented on them since.
When you talk about Fanatics' financial woes and the impact on the hobby, you're really talking primarily about ultra-modern. And for some people, that's all there is to the hobby. I hope your warning is heeded.
If anything? They’re making more money from selling sports cards than jerseys, when I look in my closet I don’t have a jersey but I have multiple cards, I bet if you looked across the landscape of America, there are probably more investors into sports cards than jerseys just saying, most havent brought more than one or two jerseys a year and that’s if you even buy one and if it isn’t cause of hype , favorite player or super sale you know??
I think they should end the stupid box brakes that are nothing but a scam tops knows it they should go after it you think you're promoting something good but it ain't doing nothing but pissing us off out here why would we want to invest same with you Panini
Interesting insights. I predicting when fanatics bought Topps it won’t last long. Fanatics doesn’t understand the hobby and the ipo will attract too many people asking too many questions. I predict Rubin will retain autograph rights and future card companies will pay him for player access Long run … hobby is strong
Interesting way of looking at it, That means the Panini Auto stuff might be valued higher. I can only imagine charging different card companies higher prices for specific player rights/autos if this scenario were to play out in the future.
I put this comment on another post but They might be selling to capitalize on the hype or secure profits before the market shifts. Their new ventures could be a factor, looking to reinvest in fresh opportunities. It's less about abandoning ship, more about repositioning themselves in a shifting market. Quite the strategic move!
So fanticsfest canceling a week out was a money thing……fn knew it…and the same thing topps is doing to sink the card game, adidas and Nike have already done to the sneaker game…over production has watered down the market and the end of covid signaled the end of stimulus checks and people sitting at home with nothing to do but shop online, when cards and sneakers went nuclear with their takeoff in valuation. Those days r long gone and all the vultures have taken over and stripped the bodies. It’s unfortunate but it won’t get better til that knob Rubin sells topps.
Fanatics should shift to a Public traded company. Retail investors would buy up the shares in minutes. I know I would grab 100 share minimum; definitely more if the price is low. Shares should be $35-45 but they stated it would open around $130 - @250M shares hitting the market (this is about the 32Billion they think fanatics is worth) that’s about 1.9M shares open to public Ruben at 1/3 ownership would be @82M shares - Billion $ of that would be about 7.7M in shares[Billion sold off] this is if we get IPO- The institutional investors like NFL/NBA/MLB & financial Institutions own the 66%. They will probably buy the 3% sell off. Also tin foil hat wise- Ruben is a Epstein/Diddy party guy… he’s trying to get out like the rest of “them” before SHTF.
Pinnacle, Donruss, Fleer, Panini to some extent losing many of their licenses are your past examples in the biz. Flippers move onto the next big thing. Fanatics is bad for the Collector base but who cares right. A Billionaire getting bored with his Toys & seeing the Big Easy Money aint there he thought it was, uphs. Mr. Big Schilling the Hobby because he was the Bully at the Poker Table with all the Chips not working so well. It's just all so sad for his business venture he couldn't figure out a way to Schill this better. Maybe the next big cards will have actual dried player flesh on them & pieces of bone from injuries & surgeries they suffer on the field & recovering. How exciting. Fanatically not what he thought it was to make a killing.
If you don't like Fanatics, I expose a loophole here that can get you FREE cards: ua-cam.com/video/f4d9NMu8whQ/v-deo.html
To me that’s another sign that there should be more licenses available to manufacture cards in each sport.
$40 blaster boxes probably didn't help anything...$500 hobby boxes doesn't help either🤷
Nope. Not at all
They're selling them. Whether they sit on secondary market shelves is not their problem.
What!? People figured out they don't want to pay exorbitant amounts of money for complete crap clothing and jerseys? Shocking. The return of NFL cards from Topps will be something to watch, though. A LOT of collectors looking forward to Topps NFL cards, not so much from them, but you take what you can get.
Please continue to bring this type of awareness to hobbyists. You have no idea how vital people like yourself are to our community. Thank you!✊🏽
Good video. Since Fanatics went on their acquisition sprees, I lve thought Fanatics isnt long for this world. Not a sustainable business model, expecting collectors to keep getting screwed by them
Fanatics got into something that part isn't about just money.
After Chrome basketball and Mercury being so lazy and the the Topps Now printing every time someone farts, I’m ok with this news.
Dying 🤣
Now there is an idea, topps now victors first NBA fart scratch and sniff, Judges game used underwear! Lol

My gut is that he couldn't sell it as the price he wanted initially and then held back.
Sports card market is doomed because of too many releases. What is going on with chrome sapphire cosmic heritage update bowman draft. It's ridiculous. How can anyone keep up!
Too much wasted on grading and not enough on singles.
Stop worrying about stupid boxes.
I hope fanatics fails, they took control of topps, and there greed has taken our hobby straight into the crapper.
Bring back the old tops not the cards but the company much better this fantix what is it a dude I know it's a fan thing to me it's stupid it's tops that's it that's all I'm with you
Great video
Not just their greed, panini too. As well as grading, and breakers ruined the hobby.
Topps lost their rights to fanatics. They had to sell. Topps cards were gonna be down the crapper anyways in a year or 2 once license was up.
and you are surprised why?
I've stopped buying hobbies and blasters... I haven't bought any new boxes all year.... I've shifted to buying specific singles on eBay. Box prices are too high, for fewer cards. It's frustrating. I'll still buy an occasional Topps Now, but new boxes and breaks? Nope. I'm done.

True collectors would benefit from a fanatics / Topps break up.
I refuse to buy anything from Fanatics. I would love to see them fail.
I am not particularly picky, but I noticed early on with their apparel that I would never purchase anything ever again from Fanatics, including cards.
I have been collecting Topps flagship baseball cards since 1977. I can't imagine a world without it.
Ruben was never wanted or needed in the hobby to begin with. Good riddance won't be missed.
None of the Bergs or Steins were ever wanted or needed in the hobby to begin with. They turn everything into a degenerate scam!
Absolutely fascinating video! Thank you for this.

I feel like we’ve already started seeing the print print print mentality around Topps Now. Now we know the reason! Great video thank you!
Thanks!
It seems that Fanatics wants to control everything and they just aren't capable. I wonder if Burbank Sportscards will regret leaving eBay and moving their inventory to the Fanatics platform.
@@prestigejapanbb I do think Fanatics will ultimately IPO but valuation will be down 30%+
Burbank still lists on eBay. Those videos are all fluff.
Buying a pack with 4 cards in it for $30 is kinda silly. I grew up with wax packs. It was fun. It’s turned into a PSA race. Not fun.
makes no sense now -- they have chased their own tail only to become to dizzy to operate
Appreciate this video. Knowledge that I'm surprised I don't ever see many videos talk about

When the basic NECESSITIES of life keep getting exponentially more expensive…why buy cards??? 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Topps quality has improved under Fanatics and will be even better once they eliminate off center printing and dinged corners right out of the box. Especially for thicker cards. I wanted to grab an old school Ted Williams jersey and it was $400. Crazy.

Market crash is a collectors dream. Keep up the good work Topps 🍾
The point of holding cards isn't based upon the value of one particular company card collecting will always be around.
Collecting is the base of the pyamid so yes god bless collectors bc it crumbles without them
@SportCardMadness Absolutely.
You can barely find any Topps products in Canada. You have a better chance winning the lottery then finding flagship.
Something isn’t right with fanatics. All the big plans. Then all the cancellations. Something isn’t right.
they found out collectors are what drives the hobby
$800.00 for bowman draft baseball jumbo box is crazy!!! No way I am buying!
When you try to become a monopoly bad things can happen.
their team jersey sales have gone to crap because 1 to expensive and the quality is gone. I will never buy from fanatics again.
Man I like you channel. Keep grinding, it’s a solid content here
Appreciate it man!

Greeedy corporations / too much over printing w the topps now and prizm for sure
ridicules prices has ruined it
thank the breakers/flippers/repackers
2024 Bowmen Draft Jumbo box $799.00 from topps absolutely NUTS- I wanted to buy a box …eBay it’s selling for $1,100.00 … no way I am buying!
Excellent breakdown. Subscribed.
Awesome, thank you!
Topps Fanatics - Sports cards for only the 1%. Federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. 😅
so true
Fanatics Collect has the worst customer support I have ever experienced. Now I know why.
Thanks for sharing. -EDIT-

It helps to explain why new Topps products stink.
If they were smart they would listen to you and save their company from that death I enjoy the modern cards I'm 60 years old but they still look cool just like the Evel Knievel I played with when I was a kid many expensive comic books went through my hands as a kid and cards we played with them that's what we did
The average collector have been priced out of the hobby. Something needs to happen or you’ll have more collectors leaving the hobby.
This is what happens when the masses take the control back of an out of control market. Feels like they are trying to control too much
Does Michael Rubin wear eyeliner ?
Cards boxes cost too much. They should have several companies making cards like the old days. Have competition.
Well , I can see it , I’m new to this whole game and I have spent thousands on Topps card and have yet to receive one substantial card. Even with random chance , I should have gotten at least one card that was of value ! Anybody else agree?

$400 hobby boxes did this..This industry has a very long lag effect, if your trying to open a brick store or expanding in this economy. Just dont.
