Nancy Marano/Eddie Montiero - THE REAL THING

What a great tune - by Mel Torme and Gerry Mulligan.
I loved hearing this incredible duo in person back in the 1980's - Marano's perfection in every way, bringing the music and the words vividly to life, and Montiero's deep sense of harmony and texture.
They always reminded of the same feeling I got from some of Gil Evans' music...

I saw them at North Sea Jazz in 1991. Amazing set, Eddy Monteiro was a marvel. At one moment I'll treasure forever, he went into a rhytmically extremely complex solo, and the audience who had been fingersnapping along enthusiastically dropped out one by one - except for me and one other guy who kept managing to be in time all the way through. And after the solo, when Nancy came back in, he nodded to both of us in recognition with a big smile! Magical moments.
