This is a great beginner's guide. No 15 minute deep dive into talents and stats with 2 min of "press this" at the end but just explaining the essence of disc gameplay. The details can be learned later, but this is a great starting point!
Thank you for the feedback. I'm glad you enjoy the format. My thought exactly in breaking things down more as we get into the actual expansion. Sometimes people just need to understand the core concepts and the class will just click for them.

@@Moarcookiezlive if they wanna now stats they can google it and it doesnt matter that much as disc, just get stats, at the beginning i thought mastery would be king but its not a flat% added sadly, would be to broken for sure. with my lovely 260 gear i can to my 10-12 keys aiming for 15s the next 3 days. but i talented into pw life because some dps tend to live on the edge and 1 pws isnt neough if 2 get hit ;x
but i love the playstyle. thought about a mindbender build, for mana on its own it would be great but the 7hit penance is just to much pressure I'ld lose for now and with radiance you get it stacked up so damn fast, esp in aoe when there are 5+ dots out.
very interesting healer to play^^ and btw who doesnt want to have the power of PI. sadly shining force is gone and not even a stun in the kit and tendrils aswell as the melee fear just doesnt add up the lack.
but now i can comfortly blame the rest of the group ;D
not much new except the size of the ramp and how you could get it done but sometimes small things make the big move

The beginners guide is aimed towards players just picking up the class for the first time.
Corrections
Ramping can be done using any atonement applying ability (Renew, Flash Heal) or (Power Word: Shield with Rapture). I explained things with Flash Heal to reduce the amount of abilities we are talking about due to this being an absolute beginners guide. When I release the full length 10.0 Guide it will include more specifics on how to get the most out of your ramps.
So would use say in the efficiency for mana, renew spam would be better than flash in the beginning of an xpac where mana is harder to keep?
@@Adisdad2381 Yep! Renew should be used in place of flash heal to apply atonements when ramping. Since this was a beginners guide I wanted to just start with flash heal, then talk about renew / rapture options in a future video

Been playing WOW for 7 months and this kind of content is really helping me learn more about my class. Plenty of other content that i watch i find it hard to retain but with the formatting you use it is ideal and not to overwhelming. Thanks for the effort

Yea some of them are talents, but in most cases they should be talents you always end up taking at max level. Either way if you dont have a specific ability, you can just still include all the others mentioned and the same idea follows.
i started playing again a couple weeks ago, and i just made a new priest to try and remember how to play holy, but i went with disc, and I'm loving it. i just leveled a paladin to 70 and while i like holy pally, disc is awesome.

Well this got me super interested in leveling a priest. Just came back and have been learning resto druid, but this atonement setting and damage to heal seems like such a cool mechanic for a healer!

Dude, thank you. You know how many guides I went through before I found your real beginners guide? Lol. Almost all other content assumes people played mythic + in the last expansion but I haven’t really played since Wotlk so disc is very new to me.
Yea I noticed a huge lack in true beginners guides. Whenever I want to learn a new dps alt, the way it's explained in guides assumes a lot which is just a problem of how long this game has been around I think. It's difficult for people to remember what it's like starting out fresh in this game
@@Moarcookiezlive a beginners guide to heirloom gear would be helpful too I think. I know true beginners don’t really have access to heirloom gear but returning players do. Took me a minute to figure all the new heirloom stuff out.

I wish but the channel is focused on healer content creation with the occasional mix of other content. Try looking up Darkmech on youtube, he usually has a lot of similar guides
Thank you, that helped me :) Not sure when I will try a dungeon as I'm scared as hell (can only play with left at the moment as my right arm still hurts since months but it seems near the end [finally]) and even with both hands I would be scared...
But one question, what about the dot? I do get the damage rotation, but should it not include the dot? Or does it take to much time to apply it?
Yes you should be applying the dot to enemies and keeping it refreshed. I didn't include it as understanding the core "Schism -> Penance/ Mindblast" idea is more important for a beginner.
Thanks for this helpful guide. I like playing the disc priest so far but it's very difficult IMO. Once I get all the atonements out and try to start DPS I find myself having to dodge everything, not stand in fire, dispel others, emergency heal DPS about to die standing in fire etc. So the DPS I'm dealing is very sporadic. As I'm about to get in the groove doing some decent DPS the atonements are rapidly falling off so I have to re-apply them, then back to trying to DPS but getting constantly getting interrupted by pretty much everything. I feel like I'm constantly catching up and never really in the groove. I also seem to be overhealing a TON and not very efficient as the radiance atonements are random and cast on several players in a raid that don't need healing.
Radiance will prioritize applying atonement to players who are lower hp though it also depends on positioning. The basic idea is find comfortable keybinds for your atonement appliers like power word shield and renew so that it's easy to maneuver and apply atonement at the same time.
This was good for a beginner guide I do think you should break it down a little in your more in depth content to have a dungeon/pvp healing and a raid healing guide since they're pretty different in some aspects even if they're mechanically identical in a lot of them. Just having to heal the tank or the focus target is a lot different than raid blanketing, so how to handle that is an interesting shift. Especially emergency healing without atonement at all is fairly different even if its sort of straightforward.
I never mained a priest though, only had one as an alt, so maybe im just talking out of my ass.
Yep. For a beginners guide it will serve its purpose but I plan to break up M+ and Raid guides separately. You can see examples of this in the healing guides I made in patch 9.2 of Shadowlands. I plan to follow a very similar format to those.

Yep just waiting for changes to be finalized so expect talent coverage and other more in depth stuff as dragonflight actually launches. So late November early December

@moarcookiez thank you for the great videos so far. For the ramps, how do i remove the power word shield cooldowns? is there any instant spells that allows me to apply atonements quicker? thanks.
Rapture will let you cast power word shield without a cooldown
Otherwise you can use the lowest cost spell that applies atonement which is currently Renew

Why not use renew for atonement ramping. Especially If your ream mate has taken no damage yet.
That is exactly what you do. To cover beginners material I figured I'd leave out the multiple ways of applying atonement
Does atonement stack? Like if you cast flash heal 5 times on the same person do they 5x atonement?
Good question! No, it simply refreshes the duration of the atonement on that player but adds no additional benefits at all.
is there a reason to useflash heal instead of renew to stack up on atonements?
No. I used it as a generic example since the way to apply atonement changes patch to patch. You want to use whatever is the lowest costing spell. In the current patch of 10.1, that is Renew:)

Quick question is there an added buff to spamming flash heal to one target? Wouldn't u just need one to get atonement to heal?
There is no added benefit. I was just showing an example and I didnt have extra people in my group to use so I was doing the cast sequence on myself.

Currently in the pre-patch, yes renew is better to apply atonements on full health players

Correct me if I’m wrong, but generally for ramp you use renew on players that are around 90-95% health and people that are lower than that get flash healed. But that is more in depth for mana and hps efficiency.
@@Operatorthaine Yep, I put it in the pinned comment. It was something I planned to talk about in the next video just because I was worried that the renew idea might get nerfed or changed during Dragonflight and I want this guide to remain as relevant as possible for the whole expansion so thats why I mention flash heal instead.
@@chimzrn5630 No, renew will probably still be the default option since it cost the lowest amount of mana. I'll talk about it in the next guide that I release.

I havent really healed in WoW. but ive always heard people talk about disc priest all the time. i ended up boosting a priest with Dragonflight preorder and would like to potentially main this spec. coming from healing a few classes in FFXIV, this is basically a barrier healer (Sage, Scholar)? in FF14, its a little easy to know when a heavy hit is coming on a tank for sure due to sometimes a big red arrow appears on top of them. how different is it here?
You'll rely pretty heavily on boss timer addons like big wigs or dbm to alert you when the group will take damage.

@@DeadlySwords8 so in dungeons the playstylr changes quite a bit because there isn't a need to "ramp". When you need to heal you can simply use Radiance to apply atonement to everyone and then do damage.

I’ve been playing holy since vanilla and occasionally shadow. I could never get disc . I’ve tried and basically once aoe dmg gets big I find it too hard to recover and you start playing like holy and it’s over. I tried it last night on a alt priest only 32 and I found it rough. Going between healbot and dmg I fell behind on certain fights. Still way easier to damage and heal as needed as holy .
Yep thats Disc's problem is you have to stay ahead and be proactive because its really hard to catch up once you fall behind
@@Moarcookiezlive well the shield Meta for years jaded me. Plus the community hated on holy priests even though people forget they were the best healers vanilla. So I’ve been a bit hostile towards disc lol. Having said that I thought this new play style might entice me but either I’m missing something or it doesn’t work. At least not using healbot? Maybe better with mouseover macros

Its hard healer,im traying but is,its hard. When whole team get damage its hard to heal all,look for tank HP,do damage to enemy. I dont wanna quit but is hard

@@Moarcookiezlive I've got a better grasp on Disc now then I did a few weeks ago. I don't believe flash heal or Renew grant Atonement, but Power Word: Radiance seems to come back off CD right when you need it to every time. I'm curious to see how this works in Pvp/Raid/Open World.
Dungeon it seems to keep pace pretty well, plus theres been some fights where as Disc Priest I lead the group in DPS and it feels really crazy haha

why you use two time radiance in a 5 party !?
You wouldn't. Typically you'd find yourself pressing Radiance, doing a bit of atonement healing and pressing Radiance again if you need to refresh the atonements or have another button to heal up the party after expending your atonement healing spells
You demonstrated the Mini Ramp but called it the Big Ramp. Got me confused. According to the graphic a Big Ramp is with PW: Shields, not Flash heals. What about using Renew? It has longer Atonement and no CD.
The spells you use are not related to the type of ramp you are doing, just the number of atonements you apply. I just wanted to make examples using base spells like flash heal since the spell you use to apply atonement can and probably will change with each new patch. Using your cheapest atonement applier is usually a safe bet (in this case renew as of patch 10.0.5)

Correct. Applying attonement to a player who already had it will simply refresh its original duration

Such a confusing Ness of a spec. It heals fine, but it's just a mess and I can't really see what it offers over holy.
Most of the time when compared to holy it provides much stronger, short burst of insanely powerful geoup wide healing. Holy on the other hand offers more consistent healing and also really good spot healing
Why flash heal vs renew?
Its just as a base for beginners since it will apply better in both dungeon and raid content. In raid content however, you will typically be using your lowest mana cost spell to apply atonements to players (which currently is Renew)

Rapture says it makes PW:S to not have CD but in reality GCD still applies and eats up some times, so it's entirely accurate for the spell to say that it doesn't have a limitation which actually does have.
Also, Evangelism's CD....i don't get it, while the duration bump of Atonement is decent the CD is way too much, 1.5 to 2 min would be acceptable but 3min, why, it literally makes the entire talent virtually useless in general except very very very rare cases where these secs are worth giving up 3 mins of its CD.
They already reverted Evang back to 1.5
Why use flash heal to put attonement, a lot of mana spendede there, much better to use renew instead of flash heal
As a beginners guide I didn't want to add in another spell to talk about since there are rules and exceptions when comparing Renew and Flash Heal for applying atonement. Renew is better when players aren't taking damage, which will be talked about in the full 10.0 guide

Yep, you only ramp with Shield when you use Rapture.
