    I had one and sold it due to lack of room. I do still own the Product Enterprise diecast Fireball XL-5, Stingray, and Captain Scarlet SPV. The models were made from original studio blueprints by people like Derek Meddings, Mike Trim, Brian Johnson, Bob Bell, and Keith Wilson, all of whom designed many iconic vehicles for Gerry Anderson. The very best diecast model I own is of Zero-X, featured in Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet, and made by Bandai. It cost a hundred pounds, and can only be described as 'Toy Porn'. It's a thing of beauty.

    I have one of these! Amazing detail for sure! It's probably my all-time favorite ship, with the Gunstar 1 from The Last Starfighter being right up there with it!

    Brings back memories. I used to have the original Dinky version, the one with the chromed engines, along with the UFO Interceptor and Shado2 crawler, Thunderbird 2 and Lady Penelope's car, the Green Hornet's Black Beauty, Captain Scarlet's SPV, Joe 90's and Sam's cars. Unfortunately when I left home in the early 80's my parents donated them all to a jumble sale, and yes they still were in their original boxes. If I'd known then what I know now they may have supplemented my pension. About 10 years ago I picked up The Product Enterprises Deluxe Eagle Gift Set at a discounted price from a toy shop having a closing down sale. I found your review interesting as I've never opened the box so not aware of the construction. It's only recently that I've found out how much these things sell for.
    Thank you for the very detailed review.
    Regards
    Nidge.

    I was too young for the show but bought one of those 70's Eagles a few years ago after I remember a mate having them as a kid and I always wanted one despite my Star Wars obsession!
    Must watch the show. These Product Enterprises look superb but I doubt I would fork out £100+ for one.
    Great review as always, cheers.

      The dinky one came out the year I was born. But I remember playing with one as a child. I then watched the reruns when I was older and loved the show.

    Always considered the design of the Eagle very utilitarian, if not aerodynamic. I was able to get all but the Freighter Eagle in this incredible line, two if which I currently have on display in my computer room. Truly stunning detailing on this. Now I have to build a launch pad for one of them....!

    I have quite a few of these that I bought at the time. And yes they were about £30, mine still have the prices on. Best buy in a while, currently they are going up of £200 - £250 but that's a bit steep. I got mine at a Blake's 7 convention oddly enough.

    I have never seen one second of this show in my life. when I was a kid I watched re-runs of star trek and then when I was six star wars came out and that became my obsession for about 30 years. I might try to find it and see if I was missing something special.

      Of the two seasons, Season one is the best. You might be surprised how gritty and adult a show it is. I used to watch it on Saturday morning TV. And? I hear you say. I reply: search out the episode 'Dragon's Domain'. I watched it, with my four year old brother hanging on my arm in utter terror. The show, which was NOT for kids, was aired unedited. Because it was made by Gerry Anderson, creator of shows like 'Stingray', and 'Thunderbirds', TV stations thought it a kid's show. Like Anderson's preceding show 'UFO', it so wasn't. It's brilliant. You'll love it.

      I was 9 when Space 1999 came out, it aired Saturday afternoon on the local FOX network channel 41 in Louisville, I think around 7pm, an odd time when most people didn't watch TV. I had seen all the Star Trek episodes as reruns aired for years on Sunday around noon on NBC. Space 1999 was just so bizarre compared to the straightforward Star Trek that it drew me more into science fiction. You can watch them all on youtube by searching around a little, they're all here.

    Just watched your videos, especially the one of you restoring the Dinky Eagle model. You have more patience than I would. I never liked the green version. I personally would've bought model paint and painted over the green parts. I did have the Eagle model but it were damaged by my cats knocking it off the shelves. Since I'm now retired, I want to resume collecting. Unfortunately, I do not have the room for models larger than 12 American inches long. I'm going to check out Product Enterprise, Dinky and Trendmasters, to see what models they have. Thanks again for your interesting videos.

    I am so happy I have the regular and rescue Eagles from PE. Mad at myself for not getting the other four variants at the time. I so want a Science Eagle, the VIP version and the two cargo versions.
    One work of warning. Be very very careful when handling these with the cargo pod detached. At that point the only thing supporting the ship is the somewhat fragile plastic spine. One of mine cracked a bit and needed to be glued just from light handling. These really are display models, not toys.

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  8 років тому

      +andrew taylor I thought that when I took the pod out. The dinky version is so much stronger. Mine is kept in it's box most of the time as I prefer the Dinky ones on display.

      Theses are being reissued as a limited run, including the mark ix hawk by SIXTEEN 12. COM. I believe they are a 1000 per vehicle world wide, they are taking orders now for 2018 release, head over and make an enquiry to secure what you like, no obligation to purchase, snagged myself a few. No word on pricing at the moment, but I guess much cheaper than those ebay scalers, just a heads up if you are interested sir.

    @toy polloi I recall a model of the eagle that came out in the late 70's that had sound that if you tilted would make the spacecraft sound like going up or down and had a button you could push to fire laser lights with sound. who made that product?

    I never could understand Corgi reasoning for painting the eagle green with red engine bells, did they ever see the show? Or were they just color blind?

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  8 років тому +1

      +Jim Goebel I think it was just to make it more Kid friendly and bright. They did similar with the UKO interceptor.

    • @LaughItupFuzzball70
      @LaughItupFuzzball70 8 років тому +1

      +Toy Polloi Agreed think it just made it 'pop' a bit more for the Child on the shelf and for the parent that might no little to nothing about the show....

    • @JMChladek
      @JMChladek 8 років тому

      +Jim Goebel The first series Dinky green transports did have chrome bells and I gather they did them in red later due to the expense of the chroming process and to streamline production with the freighters (which had red engines).
      As for the color selection, part of me thinks that it was a ploy by Dinky to also sell the white freighter versions in equal numbers. Both ships were released at close to the same time and if Dinky had done a white transport, I don't think the white freighters would have sold as well since it wasn't featured on the show too much. Since the core Eagle design was the same except for the pods, parents would buy both and a kid just had to swap pods to get a white transport with a white pod. Just a theory anyway. Personally, while not show accurate, I thought the green looked pretty cool with its metallic finish (wish Dinky had done a TB2 that way after the first enamel green ones instead of the blue metallic they ultimately did).

  • @wildone106
    @wildone106 6 років тому +1

      In their defence, packaging is better now, the engine bells are now metal, and, well, everything is more expensive now, so…
