One of the most underrated tokusatsu shows

This honestly looks like something that would air in syndication on Saturday/Sunday afternoons in the US.

That is so spot on!! Ha! It really has that feel to it now that you mention it. Even down to the subdued soundtrack the series uses.

To this day, Guyferd fight scene remained one of the most unique in any toku show, they genuinely tried to incorporate real life martial arts that's why Guyferd fight scenes aren't as flashy as others.

That's a great point! The "Making of Guyferd" video showcases this really well. Despite how slow it looks on-screen a great level of effort does go into every action scene and battle in the series.

1000%! Guyferd's design holds up really well despite the series being produced 26 years ago.

I was so hooked up in guyferd i somehow managed to follow it for 25 weeks straight, somehow. It has packed storylines with relatively minimal filler, and really good opening and ending song as well. It was apparent that the budget of the series is relatively low, but they managed to make it engaging and interesting to watch until the end.

Awesome!! I wish I could have done that way back in the day too. Regardless of budget, they did make it work and to this day, Guyfer's costume is still one of the best designed in the tokusatsu hero genre.

You never know! Given how many shows we never expected to be released outside of Japan, a series like Guyferd may stand a chance to one day see an international release!

Man more shows should do whatever they did that allowed them to finish in the fall. This might also help with some ideas I have if I even do become involved in something like that. Want to hear one of them.

I thought Guyferd was one of the character candidates who deserved to be included in the "vs Capcom" series, even though he had to get permission from Toho directly for Guyferd to be included.

Maybe one day! It's a good point in time to revisit the character from a nostalgia marketing standpoint.

a great series through and through my only gripe was the story got more outlandish as time went on but hey thats toku for you

Agree. It took some interesting detours as it got closer to its end game. I still wish they provided more background on some of the artifacts they needed to activate the Gaia net. It was still a fun watch though!

There are some plots here that does sound a little bit like Street Fighter which is no surprise who worked on this.

I remember watching this as a child I had the first two VHS tapes🥺 I remember thinking it was too much like Guyver to the point it felt like a rip off

Back in the day there were a lot of discussions had on Guyferd and Guyver's superficial similarities. While working on this video I spent some time scanning the Japanese internet and books in my library to see if there was an actual connection or inspiration that connected the two, but outside of the name and similarly styled bio-armor & ki-armor there really isn't anything that goes beyond superficial similarities.
That being said, there are enough shared ideas between the two works that I would not 100% conclude that Guyferd didn't take some creative cues from Guyver. We may never officially know though.
