You're Spot On! There's NOTHING like watching a New Original Movie (The Matrix!) and being Blown Away by the new Story, Character and Visuals! It's a Really Exciting Experience, that no Sequel, Prequel, Remake, Requel, etc.. no matter how Good, can ever Replicate! Nothing beats the Original Experience.
I saw both "A real pain' and "Conclave" in the theaters and enjoyed both. Tried to do my part by supporting the smaller films, though Conclave was marketed to death.
The Wild Robot really deserves more credit. An original adaptation with spectacular cinematography and a wonderful story. It's unfortunate that all these movies did better.
I will defend Dune 2, David Lynch's Dune from 1984 didn't really follow the book and it's not like Denis was remaking the 84 movie. He was trying to make a movie closer to the book and Dune 2 isn't some pointless sequel. It's the 2nd half of the first book. I agree with your overall point and this is why I really don't watch many mainstream Hollywood movies anymore. I try supporting original movies in theaters.
Adam what to want or expect? There are plenty of original movies every year... THEY DON'T MAKE A LOT OF MONEY. so why should studios keep risking money when they can make shit loads at ease?
@BishopWalters12 it's not like back than there wasnt sequels. By 87 Jaws had their 4th movie... Back to the future has a trilogy, Halloween, Friday the 13th, just to name a few... Now it seems like if an original movie hits with audiences and they decide to follow up with a sequel, ppl immediately say Hollywood is outta ideas.... All of our favorite movies of all time have sequels for the most part. Predator , Terminator, Jurassic Park so on and so fourth.
@@MarkTrombone There were plenty of bad sequels in the 80's and 90's but they were also still creating new franchises at that time. Hollywood for the last decade or so is all about living off the past.
Been saying it, no one wants to see original movies anymore. No one saw Boy Kills World, Kill, Creator, Run Rabbit, Thanksgiving, Bikeriders, The Fall Guy, IF, Napoleon, just to name a few.
Best movies I've seen this year are The Substance and Heretic. I though the Deadpool sequel was less than impressive. I typically hate sequels because in my experience sequels just tend to be worse than the originals. The MCU had a good run for a while but I'm definitely burned out on it.
We grew up in a Golden age of creativity and originality in movies. Studios took risk, directors weren’t afraid to fail and budgets were very reasonable. I may have been spoiled growing up but it is Sad because going to Loews with the fam was almost spiritual. Anyway, let’s just hope for the best. Movie history shows us that this is cyclical.
Yeah I saw this top ten list a couple days ago and was like damn nothing really original this year. Can you do a top ten most anticipated list for movies next year? As I need something to look forward to for next year. I got Andor Season 2 and Severance Season 2. But for movies there’s nothing that I’m like really pumped about. Maybe the Nightwing movie, but not getting my hopes super high. Zootopia 2, but as you said it’s a sequel. Will it be good, probably, but I’m not drooling about the thought of going to the theaters for it.
I just saw Moana 2 and I agree with all three points people are saying about it. The movie was just okay/mid. I think you should still go see it. Songs aren’t as great as the first one. I think what made it worse was I had girls sitting next to me goofing around hitting each other, on their phones, talking during the movie. It was so god damn annoying. I had to shush them and tell them to stop and they got all pissed off at me. This is why people don’t like going to the movie theaters anymore because people like that ruin the experience. As for sequels I agree with you, look sequels aren’t bad I get why they are mad. But sequels are becoming the norm because they can’t come up with good original stories and it’s sad. Inside Out 2 is a phenomenal movie and in my opinion the best movie of the year. May be a hot take but I loved it more than the original. I actually prefer the plot more than the first one. It may not have that emotional punch with Bing Bong 😢 but I still loved it. I actually think Inside Out 2 was necessary because we are continuing to grow up and change. As we grow up we have more emotions like Anxiety.

Most are established IPs with a built in audience, so from a business stand point they just care about profit. They don't care if you like the movie or not as long as you fork over more cash and they get their budgets back. Sadly we know the studio's efforts are very phoned in now, and the quality is dipping. In today's climate audiences can barely get up to put a blu ray into a player let alone go out to a place to watch something. And new generations aren't as excited about movies, what are movies to them these days? UA-cam, Video games and influencers are where it's at for a lot of them. I'm not saying youngsters don't like movies or that our generation doesn't go see movies or anything but it's not held to as much importance as it used to be. The new sonic trailer is a great example of how horrible movies look nowadays. Everything comes across as fake with all the high quality cameras and a lot of cgi stands out(supposed to do the opposite ) and looks horrible
You need originals to have sequels, and if you didn't like the originals, why would you want sequels to those films? Your comment is totally nonsensical.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but there already IS a Pocahontas sequel, and like this poor woman's real life, its pretty messed up, which is part of the appeal of these 'real life-ish' works of fiction, unlike our usual fairy tales.
