Especially in high impact sports like professional football and wrestling, the damage done to athletes bodies can be catastrophic, particularly when trauma is repeatedly delivered to the brain. In this scenario, athletes sometimes suffer CTE, or chronic traumatic encephalopathy. This diagnosis often comes after reports of personality changes, violent behavior, personality changes, paranoia, and sometimes death. You may be surprised that your favorite player who died did so because of this disease. This is the chilling connection between all these athletes that died young.

I often wondered about Joanie Laurer aka Chyna. She struggled with severe depression and drug abuse. I know she'd had a rough upbringing but all the years she wrestled in addition to steroids, she may have had CTE too. Perhaps since she technically died of OD her brain wasn't examined as thoroughly. I am aware that there's a lot of people who struggle with depression and addiction who don't have severe brain injuries but it couldn't have been good for head trauma to be added to the mix. I dated a fellow who was an addict; he then was in a fight where he hit his forehead on a concrete curb causing several hematomas in his frontal lobe. His already erratic behavior became extreme after his so-called recovery from the injuries. He'd never been a particularly violent person before, with the exception of that one fight, but after that he became violent with me and the rest of his family. Last I heard he has numerous B&E, assault, and kidnapping charges.

Not funny. CTE is concussion caused brain trauma. It is time someone noticed the health dangers of these athletes, instead of the money they make for others.

Hopefully they can find a way to test living athletes for this disorder and test them often so they can get help when it is needed

When I saw him celebrating early in the Super Bowl before they eventually lost I remember thinking he's going to take this hard. I wasn't surprised when he met his fate. He didn't look right after his retirement and was way more humble than during his playing days.

I was expecting to find pro boxers on that list. They are subjected to head trauma more frequently, I think.

WWE Wrestling is staged and scripted but the wrestlers who are a part of the WWE have to be in very good physical shape and wrestlers get seriously hurt both physically and mentally and they die and kill their family and kill themselves like Chris Benoit tragically did.

I have to wonder if the push to cement CTE as the cause of these maladies is a dodge for PED misuse, both sports football and wrestling being rife with their abuse. Soccer players get more concussions than these two sports, but we don't see the same results.

Although you make an interesting point. Its not just the concussions known. Its the repeated blows to tge head. Especially football. In football blocking and hitting someone results in headshots on every play.

I don’t watch any sports because of the head injuries. Scrambling your brain. Not fun to watch.
