Right!! These lil clips do nothing for me. It be dope if all the original cast did a special about the movie. Or has that happen and I don't know about it?
The marketing for this film was genius. They pushed Drew up front and center in every promotion picture, every poster, and every interview making the audience believe she would be the main character, only for her to get killed off in the first 10 minutes. Audiences were left stunned because it was such a big plot twist
@@jamesedleymusic Kind of, but Psycho was different in that the audience was invested in this story of this woman and we got to know her for half the movie. Casey Becker was not that. She wasn't the main character, they just pretended she was.
Drew's scene in Scream is so memorable but I also think it's one of the saddest/most heartbreaking scenes from a horror movie, with the parents arriving and their reaction when they realize that something has happened.
I’m so desensitized to the scene because I’ve been rewatching Scream movies since I was a kid. But I watched it with some friends who 1: aren’t horror fans 2: haven’t seen Scream and I felt bad because I never realized how intense and scary the opening scene was until I had other people around me experiencing it for the first time. I wish I could watch that scene for the first time again.
When you think of Scream the most iconic moment is with Casey. Drew sharing she helped produce it is an epic drew’s secret that further solidifies legendary status. So so so EPIC!
@@oreoreo1534 it wasn’t common knowledge. I’ve been a huge lifelong fan, have met her twice but only knew she chose the part of Casey over the main role of Sydney, had no idea she helped produce it.
Also so cool to know that she championed the idea of a “major cameo kill” where your favorite actor/character isn’t safe. Makes me think of the unexpected deaths that followed- like Sam Jackson in “Deep Blue Sea”! ❤️
I love how passionate and respectful she speaks always about Scream. She knows she played an iconic and memorable role (even though she’s only 13 minutes on screen) and that the fans love it and she embraces it! She’s a legend!
Drew’s performance in the opening sequence of Scream was one of the most intense and convincing scenes of being in complete terror that I have ever seen. Her performance is what made the movie worth continuing. I would love to see Drew interview Matthew Lillard, he’s so entertaining and they would be hilarious together!
That would’ve been compelling and amazing to see if Drew had continued to play the Sydney character. She would’ve knocked it out of the park. At the same time when you think of the Scream franchise, her performance in the beginning stands out as one of the grand highlights. Even Michelle Pfeiffer admitted to being inspired by Drew’s performance to prepare her for “What Lies Beneath”. To bring that fear and emotion to it.
Drew NAILED it. Because that's _exactly_ what I got from that scene when I first saw it so long ago, that feeling of... who else is gonna get killed now if that just happened? The movie The Ring also took from her idea I believe, because they have a very similar beginning.

Awww! I loved this! I love Drew's vision for the original Scream. It would be a totally different movie if she survived that opening sequence. I love that Drew and all of the actors from the Scream franchise have a great love and admiration from their time on those films. It makes me happy. Scream is my all time favorite movie. And people always tease me about it, but it came out during a very specific time in my life and even with the sequels, I can clearly remember just being so excited to see each one of them. And Drew is just an amazing human being. I loved this.
I remember that she did do that last year, but I agree she should def do it again this year. I'm going to dress up as Casey and I can't wait! Such a classic
It's technically a sequel yes but it's also a soft reboot with new writers and directors. A continuation but a new beginning. Otherwise they would have title the movie Scream 5.
This is the first one without Wes Craven, so technically it is a soft reboot. Call it whatever you like and whatever makes you sleep at night, but at the end of the day this is a soft reboot.
Back in 1996, I walked into that movie completely believing that Drew was gonna be the star or at least have a larger role. When her character is slaughtered in the first ten minutes, I remember thinking that it was just gonna be a free for all. Throw out all expectations. Drew's idea was brilliant. Made the movie very shocking and memorable.
I love the amazement over the wig (so happy she kept it) and her enthusiasm and pride 25 years later. Drew is who got my attention which led to my discovery of that AMAZING cast, crew and my FAVORITE movie of ALL time. Stories like these makes me miss Wes even more so bad because everyone blended together so wonderfully. Seen the re release in theaters a week ago yesterday on the big screen and Casey’s scene hit me MORE for some reason and Drew’s performance is so amazingly heartbreaking that you actually feel bad for characters in a horror movie, which is kinda rare. The talent all around in this film shows it was meant to be made with the exact people that were involved. THANK YOU drew and everyone so much for making us scream still all these years later 😱
For real, the one horror movie that makes you feel bad for ALL the characters, even the principal and hilarious cameraman. All other horror movies I really don't feel bad when a character dies.
The funny thing is Drew still looks nearly the same as she did in the movie. She could totally still rock that wig and play a 17 year old Casey Becker, just like Danielle Harris played a high-schooler in RZ's Halloween reboot back in '07! 🎥 📷 🤳
There was always going to be a sequel if the first film made money. The first 10 pages of Scream 2 (then known as "Scary Movie 2") was included at the back of the script for Scream ("Scary Movie"). It was created to be a franchise.
I’ve heard and seen everything about the behind the scenes of the 1st Scream movie, what hardcore fan hasn’t but I would like to hear you talk about… Ever After, with a behind the scenes commentary, honestly, out all the Cinderella movies, THAT one was the best live action telling. That movie must have an anniversary coming up.
I hope Drew gets invited to the premiere of Scream 5, it would be so cool if she was to show up in her Casey Becker wig and costume, that would be epic
When I was a teenager in the 1990s everyone was going to the theater to see this movie. There was no UA-cam or anything so not a lot was known going into a movie except word of mouth and trailers on t.v. The first scene with drew Barrymore was shocking...no one was expecting such a big name like Drew Barrymore, and she was huge at the time, to be on screen for only like ten minutes, opening the scene and then dying...
I was Nine watching Romeo and Juliet and my sister was 13 in the other room watching ‘scream’ with her friends. When the phone rang in the movie, the phone rang in our house and you heard a scream. 🤣
Prior to SCREAM I was a teen complaining that horror and the slasher genera was starting to fade and as a huge horror fan I felt like I was losing one of my favorite things. I'm so grateful for this movie and I can't wait for the reboot.
That poster for the first Scream movie. The advertising was brilliant. She was on all the posters, just about everyone was expecting her to either be the main character herself or a big side character. And everyone was just as shocked to see her die, viciously, in the first ten minutes. Not many people saw that coming. Her character's death is what sets everything into motion. And I think that was genius. Drew Barrymore dies in the first ten minutes. That means no character is truly safe. Not Courtney Cox, not Neve Campbell, nobody.
When I watched Scream as a teenager, I remember being so confused to why Casey (Drew’s character in Scream) was killed off so quickly in the movie when she was featured prominently on the main poster for the movie’s marketing. But as I got older, I realised that it was done to fool the audience into thinking she would be one of the main characters throughout the first movie. And if I’m right, it was actually Drew’s own idea to have her character killed in the first scene in the movie to throw off the audience. My hat goes off to her for providing one hell of a red herring which lead to one of the most scariest yet saddest death scenes in a horror movie I’ve ever seen. I felt so bad for Casey. She seemed like a really sweet person in the movie. Too bad she suffered such a terrible fate. But Drew Barrymore played her brilliantly which made Casey’s demise even more tragic.
She was obviously trying to equal Janet Leighs' shocking shower death scene in Psycho. She definitely accomplished it. I only went to see it back in late 96' because the original poster only had her face on it with no casting credits listed whatsoever. Her face, however, was instantly recognizable. That's why it took off in the first place. It was a very brilliant marketing campaign at the time. After the first week or two,word-of-mouth really made the movie blow up. Fun times.
Hell yes. Being a horror fan, always thought that Drew's death in the first film was a nod to Psycho and Hitchcock. Killing the beautiful blond early in the film. Loved it
