Always will be a legend of piping, truly the pinnacle of solo piping artistry. Very special. Thanks for recording and sharing this. That high A... the birl, esp off B. The quality of the pipes, just beautiful.
I absolutely agree with your commend Nicholas, listened to this recital now 3 times, and had at some places tears in my eyes, cause of the beauty of the imstrument and the mastership of performance. Outstanding.
I was there as well! It was fantastic. At 47:29 I am on his left in the plain short sleeve shirt with the beard. It was so cool to be this close and watch him play.
@@DonWan47 That's strange - Gordon allowed one of my pupils to play his silver-mounted pipes, complete with engraved silver shields on the drone stocks, back in 2001, presented to him by his regiment. Of course, the title 'pipe major' is an appointment and not a rank: here he is in mess uniform with his P/M's chevrons: ua-cam.com/video/4RiFoXUrM4M/v-deo.html

I think he was just kidding, anyone who chooses to watch something like gordon walker on youtube, obviously is aware of what pipes go with what country etc... i think his tongue was planted firmly in cheek when he made his joke, however ridiculous is was.
A great player, a great character and a damned good friend to our family in tough times.
Welcome at my door any day
you aren't THE John Burgess, are you?
You’re okay with him being a child molester?
The man is a legend in my eyes...
despite fiddling with children?

I was at this recital. What he plays there is a set of old Lawrie Drones with a McCallum Chanter, his Naill set is a full silver set..
The transition from jig to reel at 26:08 is just amazing!

Well his legacy has been destroyed with his abuse of children in his teaching roles.

During the 1st tune, I swear I could hear harmonies...weird but cool! fantastic piping!!
Fabulous, as always! Does anyone know where I can get the dots for Dr. MacPhail's Reel??
He was pipe major in the British army 💂🏴
Yes - in the Royal Highland Fusiliers.
@@piperbob2 no he wasn’t. He was the pipe Sgt but because he lacked all soldiering abilities he was passed over for pipe major.

They may be Naills, but it looks like a really old set, David Naill is a fairly modern company.
