We never see people talk about eating disorders in men and we don’t ever see this side of Ashton. This was a beautiful piece to listen to and watch and the emotions were so heavy but necessary. Stay strong everyone and keep being yourself Ash!!!

This is beautiful. Eating disorders in men/boys are never-I mean NEVER-talked about. This is so important. Imagine all the boys seeing this knowing they’re not alone.
That is do true. And it is something I'm glad has been brought more into the open
So true. (Tw: eating disorders) My brother played football, offensive line, through college so he always had to be more big and beefy... so when it stopped and he graduated, he decided to lose weight and “get skinny and ripped” but it got worse and worse and so long story short we came to find out he was anorexic and orthorexic and also I’d sometimes hear him doing purging the rare times he ate, all his early twenties and then it got better and worse as he got into his later twenties. But like, especially the first couple of years, it was really really bad for certain times. As bad as anyone else with an ed and equally or more dangerous bc he was six feet tall and definitely needed WAY more calories, especially w the compulsive exercising. Luckily now he’s in his mid-thirties and he’s been a healthy weight for about six years (or even a little healthy chub sometimes more lately haha) and he’s starting to seem truly happy the past few years and he doesn’t seem as obsessed over food. He even used to do that thing where they cook you big elaborate meals and watch you eat it but don’t eat any of it themselves..
Like vicarious eating, and I guess it’s just part of the food obsession idk. But yeah, as I said he was as bad as any girl or woman would be because it’s the same illness no matter who has it...
Men have it much easier in a lot of ways, but not when it comes to admitting their feelings or being able to express what they’re going through inside. I know it’s getting a little better so hopefully that will continue, and not just for artistic or “sensitive” guys but for jocks and everyone else too.

I'm 50, and a drummer, my daughter is 15, she got me into 5 Sos. and THIS kid... man, I really like it
I am glad your daughter got you into 5SOS you will love this band. I got my mom into 5SOS and I seen 5SOS live 2 times. I’ve been in the 5SOS army for 10 years now and it’s the best thing I’ve ever been in. before I met 5SOS I was in deep depression I wouldn’t eat sleep or even talk if my teachers tried to get me to talk I would just write it down whatever the answer was. I would try to commit suicide because I am mentally disabled and I get bullied because of it and the kids would record me saying hey look it’s the stupid retarded Autistic girl and they would tell me to go kill myself because I am worthless. I cried every single night and day I cried myself to sleep I would even look at myself in the damn mirror due to the bullying and I would just wear hoodies all the time to hide my tear streamed face. I hated going to school I tried even dropping out of school because of the bullying. One day the bullying got to me and I almost cut myself till I heard a video from the boys of saying don’t cut yourself it’s not worth it you are loved and appreciated. I was sobbing and I dropped the razor and threw it away these boys saved my life and I thank them for that

That's the root of many issues. Many people think that only one group suffers this problem when it actually goes more than one way. Like you said, eating disorders can also affect men. There's how even non-minorities can be discriminated, men can be sexually assaulted. Problems go many ways, not just one.
That's why modern "feminism" is actually extremely toxic, as it paints all women as victims and all men as villains. It isn't about equality as so many claim (original feminism was, but this thirdwave shit isn't), it's wanting to put women on pedestals and act like women are the only ones bad things happen to.

I come back to this masterpiece so often. I've never cried, I've never laughed. I've just watched it and felt like someone's saying all the words I can't say. Thank you Ashton, for showing so many people this not so easy world of eating disorders. I love this song with my whole heart.
This video hits really close to home and it's a bit disturbing. To be honest I've never really heard anything about the struggles Ashton could have been fighting against, and this music video is him opening his heart in front of the world. I believe the yellow line on the floor he has such an hard time to get through is the instability of the recovery from an eating disorder, and the fact that even after passing this line (with a lot of troubles) he decides to go back to finally beat up his demons in order to be really "cured" is intense and troubling. I'm so so proud of you and so grateful to see that I wasn't wrong to look up to 5sos as role models and idols. We barely hear from men when it comes to body positivity and ED and I believe this music video is making a strong change and is some kind of a turning point for any little boy, teenager or man watching it. (And basically everyone). You're such and inspiration. I love this with all my heart.
By the way, if you're reading this and you have not eat yet today, please do. Your body will be grateful. Even the tiniest bite of anything. You're beautiful and loved, and as a french rapper once said, i don't get why you're worried by your wheigh, it's only more of you're beautiful self. it’s the way that this portrays actual real life struggles in men that we don’t see as often as we do in women. and the line that will be embedded in my head is “hey skinny skinny don’t you think about the future” which makes me think like he’s claiming himself as the shape he wants and he will not think about what body changes happen in the future. and him breaking the mirrors is so beautiful!! he’s destroying the constant battle that these men also fight with their self image, the mirror can’t tell you youre pretty nor ugly. but him bashing them and bowing down at the end as if that was his demonstration, is beyond incredible. and this is the reason why this is just art. well done ashton my boy, well done.
Ok so I think I just noticed something; I think he's talking about the different stages of self-obsession or obsessing over your image:
1. Him trying to follow the line, setting your goals, for example not eating much, having a diet, etc.
2. Falling of the line, failing at the attempt, for example eating much more than you thought you should
3. He starts singing more desperately, but doing nothing, which means he doesn't know what to do anymore, he just has doubts: "I wanna eat, I wanna stay thin, I wanna dance but I gotta stay in"
4.He goes back to the start, tries again but fails, and instead of going back to the start he lies on a mirror, which I'd interpret as giving up, just criticizing and hating yourself but doing nothing about it.
5. Finally, he takes the hammer that he's gonna destroy everything with, not just the mirrors, but the path he wanted to follow, and that's why it's very light when he takes it but heavier once he has followed (removed) the line with it.
I don't know if he was trying to show this, but this is how I interpret it, and I think it's genius.

As a guy who’s been a fan of 5sos for 8 years AND had anorexia for 4 of those years, this song is really important to me. Seeing one of my idols have been struggling with the same body dysmorphia as I have experienced, I feel less alone. I was long ashamed to be a man with an eating disorder. Thank you, Ashton. Will never stop listening to this song. I struggled with an eating disorder for 3 years, got so thin and underweight. No one took me seriously because I'm a guy. Happy to be recovered now, been at a stable and healthy weight for the past year. Love to see men body image being put out there

Damn, I wish I had this song when I was younger. It was always "you thinking about going on a diet?" or "be careful, don't let yourself go".
I'm talking ages 6-17. It sucks when you grow up and realize you've never had a healthy relationship with food or bodies- regardless if they're your own.
Then when people find out you have an eating disorder they jump to their conclusions as to why you do- you're looking for attention, you're obsessed with yourself image, you're crazy, etc.
With time, help and understanding people around you who won't enable you or embarrass you, life gets a little better though. It comes back like a monster every now and again, and ultimately it's only you who can fight it.
Teach kids to accept themselves and not put value or worth in their weight. Watch what you say around kids too, they're not stupid, they're just young sponges.

Never in the years that I have been in this fandom did I think Ashton would b the one to drop a solo album, and I’m not mad abt it. An actual icon.

I feel like Ash really needed this. Even in the early years of 5SOS when he was the cheery happy member of the group and would put a positive spin on everything, you could tell that he had inner struggles but he pushed that aside, especially being the eldest of the group he was the "banddad", which likely came from his home environment growing up. Despite growing up without his father, and having troubles in his homelife while growing up and having alot of responsibility over his younger siblings, he powered on through it all because he's a strong individual.
I remember him saying in a solo Aussie radio interview in 2015 how he even would stay behind in secondary school to help out with maintenance work, and the dinnerladies would give him free food because sometimes he'd not have a good packed lunch to bring with him. The boy didn't complain about not having a good packed lunch given to him, just get on with it, but was grateful his teachers looked out for him.
By 2015 you could see his demons taking their toll on him with certain ways he acted around fans and in interviews, and likewise as the years went by alot of people commented about how he was less talkative in interviews or came off as rude in interviews.
He blatantly has alot of struggles and inner demons. I'm so glad he's used this time of quarantine as self-reflection and a means of creative expression so that he can help himself overcome his problems and struggles.
Keep going Ash, we're proud of you. XX

You will never be happy if you think of that. You're okay. You're beautiful and you're enough. You don't need to think about that. I can’t even begin to imagine how therapeutic writing this song and dancing out his emotions in this music video were for him. It’s amazing that he is vocal about mental health and body image, especially since it’s not something you hear a lot of men so vocal about. I can’t wait to hear the rest of this album. 💕

I think many people, including myself, needed this song and more artists like Ashton. He talks in a very raw way about his struggles, struggles that so so many people go through. He is very brave to write and sing about it, I'm so happy he's overcome his struggles (or maybe he's still trying) and i believe he'll help so many people. I stan the right band since 2012 and I'm excited for what's to come.

I still can't believe that Ashton has solo song. He's kinda underrated in 5SOS and often get the least line distribution. His voice is amazing and hopefully he will have more singing chance 😁😁
Heard his album (very late, didn’t even know he released one and usually I don’t listen to 5sos) and I’m actually shocked, this is the best thing to ever come out
as a debut solo album of a pop group’s drummer. It’s what Harry Styles wished he would put out as a first album 😎 I can hear Beatles Led Zeppelin Queen Alice In Chains Black Crows and even Black Sabbath in this. Loving the 90s production vibes, a very melodic yet slightly heavy. WTG Ashton! 👏
Thanks for your comment. Might be an unpopular opinion but I found his album better than Harry's. And I'm not an age-old 5SOS fan. I became their fan after Youngblood. Youngblood and Calm are both astounding works and deserved more awards tbh. And Ashton really surprised me with his debut solo album. The amount of detail he has put in every song of his is just unbelievable. He is a true artist. Kudos!

okay so i’ve heard of 5sos before because i’m a directioner but i never really listened to their music. one day this song by ashton was on my recommended page. i watched it and loved it, feeling a connection with the song because i had an ed. i then found out it’s by one of the 5sos members. now i am officially an ashton fan and 5sos. 😌
