There's nothing ignorant about it. It's common terminology. The whole world recognizes "America" as referring to the U.S. The western hemisphere was called "the Americas" -- not "America." And no other country has "America" within it formal title. The U.S.A. does. Calling Americans "United Statesians" is stupid, and not recognized at all. There are several other countries in the world that have states. Mexico is officially "The United Mexican States," for example. Frankly, you just sound petty.
