Remember all these adverts as I was 14 at the time, my little brother used to watch Cartoon World (unless I'm mistaken it was one of the many Saturday morning shows that replaced Wide Awake Club - I can only gather, seeing the once-familiar sight of the TV-AM egg-cups at the closedown, that Cartoon World ended at Christmas 1992, when TV-AM lost its franchise), sadly he passed away just before the end of the year aged 9 - that Iced Gems advert was a particular favourite of his at the time, I had a lump in my throat seeing that advert again!
I used to get up SOOOOO early every saturday morning to watch this. Bill & Ted, Doug, Captain Planet, Captain N the gamemaster. This was the shiz, I tell ya.
Early 1992 I think. That Scott Walker / Walker Brothers compilation received a classically philistine review from Steve Sutherland in Melody Maker, who lamented that Scott had ever covered any of those funny foreigners and said he peaked with "My Ship Is Coming In". Willie Rushton voices for Findus Scrunchies.
It is really unsettling when you realise you know exactly how an advert you had forgotten ever existed will go. It was effective too, I really wanted some, and then it turned out they were horrible.
Less channels back then but Saturday morning tele was always decent for kids. ITV and BBC1 would both dedicate Saturday mornings to kids shows unlike now

Man, seeing that Iced Gems commercial brought back the good ol' memories. Brings a tear to me eye. ;-)

it's like mcdonalds wanted fleedwood mac's "the chain", but didn't want to spend the money so they created some off-key hybrid instead lol

Had Timmy Mallett left by then
No he was only on in school holidays by then
Wonder if the voiceover was the late great Kenny Everett!
It's either Kenny or a Kenny impersonator and I've never figured out which.
I hate iced gems. :P
