- At UMC, the safety of our patients is our priority.
UMC's Fall Prevention Campaign is aimed at spreading awareness throughout UMC that yellow gowns indicate a patient at risk for falls. We should be mindful of these patients, and offer our help.
LYRICS:
Look at my scars
I’m colored black and blue,
I’m pretty dizzy too,
That’s why I’m wearin’ yellow
I had to go,
I didn’t call for you,
And took a whoopsie-doo,
So now I’m wearin’ yellow
Look out for spills and slippery soles,
Trippin’ over chairs and IV poles,
Check the gown and ask me if I’m OK,
Just ask me if I’m OK
I called Aunt Joan,
She wasn’t quite so strong,
And turned her walker wrong,
Now were both in yellow
It’s up to you,
You can prevent my fall,
Just know the protocol,
And look for my yellow
Yellow gowns, they mean a risk for falls,
In the bathroom, outside or in the halls,
If you see me make sure you offer your help,
You’ve got to offer your help
Look at my scars
I’m colored black and blue,
I’m pretty dizzy too.
We need to change the color from Yellow. My wife recently had a patient who was a fall risk refuse to wear anything yellow. The patient was an elderly Jewish man who was a holocaust survivor, the last time he was made to wear something yellow it was right before he was marched into a concentration camp.
Oscar worthy performance. Seriously!
No idea why i watched this and how i got to this video but i liked it!!
Old people fall often
OMG this is the best education video I've seen ever! The music, acting-so good, so funny!
I just watched this video during my new job orientation, love it! Thank you for making this video and the song is awesome too! I shared the video with my nursing friends and they all loved it too!
I just wanted to thank UMC for this awesome video. I am a leader at a community health system in NC and we incorporated your video into our recent relaunch of a revamped Falls Prevention effort. Your video was the highlight of our staff presentations and made a potentially heavy topic fun and enjoyable for our staff while still sending a powerful message. UMC must be our kind of place! Congrats on your creativity and awesome spirit - so inspiring :)
Many thanks for the kind words, John! We're glad that you all enjoyed it, and we hope it helped make an impact for your staff and patients.

Would love to use at our hospital. Who do I contact to get permission?
+Andy Monheit Not a problem, Andy. No permission needed through UA-cam, but were you needing it in a different format?
Hello, could you please publish the lyrics?
Those bed alarms are torture . And are we supposed to pee the bed waiting for nursing help to geUs to the toilet?
You're right, Lori, and the responsibility is on us as caregivers to make sure you don't have to wait more than you should. This means: 1) A responsive nursing staff that has processes in place to ensure that answering your call is a priority, and 2) being consistent with the process of hourly rounding so that you trust us to check in on you at regular intervals. If you ever find yourself as a patient with us, we hope you'll see both of these key parts to UMC's patient experience.
