He played 14 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA), where he was a five-time NBA All-Star and named the NBA Most Valuable Player in 1975. He won two NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1980s.
    McAdoo played at the center and power forward positions. In his 21-year playing career, he spent 14 years in the NBA and his final seven in the Lega Basket Serie A in Italy. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000. McAdoo is one of the few players who have won both NBA and FIBA European Champions Cup titles as a player. He later won three more NBA titles in 2006, 2012 and 2013 as an assistant coach with the Miami Heat.

    The Braves were a fun team to watch with McAdoo, Adrian Dantley, Randy Smith and Ernie DiGregorio. John Shumate also of Notre Dame gave them another board banger. They even had Moses Malone for 2 games before he got sent along to Houston in the aftermath/breakup/dispersal of the ABA players. Just think if they had kept those guys together. It might not (or probably would not) have worked because they had too many "ball hog" type players, but Ernie D was a great passer who might have been able to spread it around and Randy Smith was a tough defensive guard. Malone and Shumate would have been monsters on the boards while McAdoo and Dantley were scoring machines.
    Had they kept that group together my guess is they would have pushed the Bullets and Sixers for the Eastern Conference, at least until the Bird-McHale-Parish bunch arrived in Boston.

    • @stevenyates4535

      Yes, also don't forget about Swen Nater and Marvin Barnes. Had they kept all these folks together they would have been very difficult to beat! Randy Smith was a world class soccer player who could run the 100 yard dash at 9.6. He had tremendous jumping ability and gave guards fits. They would have had a Hall of Fame Front Line for sure.

    @8:51 McAdoo lead the Tarheels to the final four, UCLA was shaking in their boots, see how McAdoo handled Kareem Jabbar, UCLA were so glad Florida St beat the 'Heels. There were a couple of East Coast teams that were capable of beating UCLA, the Bruins were the only established team out west, the West hadn't caught up with the East in overall b-ball talent. The '68 Gamecocks who only lost ine game that was the conference final in double OT to NC St, the Maryland Terrapins with Len Elmore and Tom McMillan they were known as UCLA-East. The Tarheel's with McAdoo; these three teams were capable of beating UCLA the ACC was loaded with teams that beat up on one another.

    Great as McAdoo was, he played for seven teams, it was rumored, owners would plot together against some players, by constantly trading them to weaken their affectiveness. Now days, they regulate you too back up, even when you're still at the top of your game, or they just won't sign you, like they did Carmelo for awhile.

    • @MatthewMcMillian
      @MatthewMcMillian 3 роки тому +1

      Carmelo is no longer a all star player...he also can't guard anyone in the league at all. He is a washed up bum that sure can still score 14 points a game if you let him shoot 25 times a game. But anyone in the NBA can do that. Carmelo is nothing at all now but a mid range jump shooter and a ghost of his younger self. He should retire because anyone who seen him play in his prime and see him now are all laughing at him about how pathetic he now is.

      K.D. can't compare to McAdoo. Kareem said he was the greatest outside shooter in the history of the NBA Rookie of the year three time league MVP should've been four won the first NBA one on one contest his rookie year by beating the Great Connie Hawkins, three or four scoring titles. Also McAdoo got Two rings. And the NBA left him off of the 50th Greatest player's. Also McAdoo played better defense, was a better rebounder and shot blocker.than K.D.🏀
