Yes! She was fat shamed. I was also fat shamed were I work in a restaurant. It's really ashamed how cruel we can be to each other as humans. I loved Delta Burke & Designing Women show.
That just makes a person wonder what actual beauty is. You can come across someone that looks like Channing Tatum or Scarlett Johansson and they’d be the ugliest person you’ve ever met…it’s about how you treat people. I’m sure you’re very beautiful.

I loved Designing Women. Miss it! There arent many shows today showing strong women. How many of us in the South know a Suzanne Sugarbaker?!?! 😆 Delta and all the ladies were great! We need more shows like this again!
Delta Burke was the show! She and Gerald are a true love story. The producers would be black listed in today's world, but in the past, harrassing a woman about her weight publicly, was accepted. If you were tall and plus size, you were treated like a man, in my experience anyway. You could not just enjoy the show, you were being programmed and shamed each time you watched it. The facts of life did this with Natalie character. It was the norm. It was never okay. "They shoot fat people, don't they" is the title of one episode. The one she won the Emmy for. She was brilliant. Imagine how she was treated off screen. Appreciate the people who paved the way, for your freedoms, now. 🧡✌🏻
The show was never the same. I remember, she went through a hard time, about her weight DESIGNING WOMEN, AND GOLDEN GIRLS WERE THE TWO BEST SITCOMS FOR WOMEN ASIDE FROM THE DAILY SOAP SHOWS. AFTER DELTA Burk and other actors and actresses were dropped from many shows the ratings dropped tremendously. Later DALLAS and DYNASTY and other shows of Very high script, became popular.
On Designing Women, was the amount of lines she had based on how low or high her weight went? She was fat shamed from what I recall the media reporting. Sad as she was my favorite character on Designing Women.
@@dfangirl72 yes and she didnt like it from what I recall reading years ago. I was a fan of hers and saw the show as being progressive in a female lead who was smart, beautiful and overweight. Why hollywood felt the need to exploit her weight, we may never know. I absolutely love and support this woman. I am glad she is taking care of herself. Most importantly I was very happy when she spoke up about her difficulties. Whatever she choices to appear in, I will watch.
