I’m happy to listen to Quran and recite as much as I can but given that this tilawah in the original days was recited in Arabic to Arabic speakers, does this opinion hold for those of us who are not Arabic speakers? Does it mean as much to listen to it in our primary languages but recite in Arabic?
If you don't come out of Ramadan understanding more of the Qur’an than you understood before, did you really experience Ramadan? Ibn Al-Qayyim said:
“To read one verse with contemplation and understanding is better than to read the entire Qur’an without contemplation and understanding. It’s also better for the heart and more likely to help you attain faith and to taste the sweetness of the Qur’an. This was the custom of the salaf; they would repeat one verse the entire night”.
So don’t focus your time trying to read as much as you can if you don’t understand what you’re reading, instead, focus on trying to understand the Qur’an.
Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu Please what about we who do not speak or understand arabic all the sahabas and salaf all understood arabic so even if they didn't ponder the verses they knew what they where saying as they where reciting but we don't have the same as we don't speak arabic what advice would you give do we read the Arabic and also read the translation too, although the sahabas and salafs didn't have to read translation but they understand the language because it's the language they speak but the same can't be said for us
