I think a good way to buff the C&D is to make the de-cloak sound quieter. The weapon is already intended to reward you for being patient and if this change was made it would help let spies using it stay hidden. In short it would trade off mobility and patience for stealth and the ability to quickly and quietly move from A to B without getting detected (if your good at spy that is)
CaD is amazing at escapes, Its my main watch and I wouldn't be able to tell you how many times I end up cloaking right in front of a player only to stay in the same area and watch them chase nothing. There's also those tense moments when players know you're staying in the same area but can't pin down exactly where you are.
The Cloak and Dagger, L'Etranger and Spy-cicle are a very great combination to get behind enemy lines without getting spotted once. And if a pyto spots you, the Spy-cicle is a great one use "get out of jail" card. :^)

my first time using the cloak and dagger, i just ran around rhe map but once the cloak was close to being deader than my great grandmother, i just go to a safe spot and wait for it to recharhe once its atleast half full, i can run around the map for a small amount of time again i was able to get 12 backstabs total (i just startes using it) turns out i did alot of what you pointed out here
As a cloak and dagger spy, I didn’t start out like the intro. I went “if I tap W, I can technically sneak into the base and get backstabs and have infinite cloak!” I still do that. Also, I use the l’étranger and YER to become the infiltrator
I personally like using it it to make a random player go insane while I use voice lines. Specifically disguising as scout and spamming "Need a dispenser here!" (works best on an engie)
I think getting the Cloak and Dagger as one of my first item drops just completely fucked up how I play spy forever, but usually when I play spy I just do it to fuck with people and the C&D is amazing for that I also find that while I probably can’t land a stab to save my life I can evade a chasing enemy like it’s no big deal
It's worth noting that the Cloak and Dagger also has a louder decloak than stock, another of those hidden stats Valve added without telling anyone. So decloaking direxrly behind someone is even less practical.
I'll be honest, I've primarily used the C&D for as long as I can remember ever playing Spy. I think it's because I'd often run out of cloak when trying to get in, and diguises don't really work when you're clearly running _into_ a base instead of out toward the combat. Being able to never be visible once the whole way in helped, although I *would* get in those traps of 'waiting for the perfect moment' (which did work sometimes, usually with engineers), but oftentimes I'd just sit there for a long time. Nowadays I'm smarter than that, I try to be more aggressive, and take advantage of the old tactic of "go to corner that they already checked" to avoid being caught after I get a stab/sap/Diamondback crit/whatever.
These are fantastic lad, I hope a video about match ups come later, spy vs all classes and how to beat them/ escape from them, similar how uncle Dane did his engineer vs all classes video
The C&D is also a great tool to teach people that there's other ways to escape enemies other than just running away. Obviously the C&D let's you stay in that spot forever but you can do the same once you switch to stock. Just need to to keep an eye on your meter, but otherwise you can escape with stock just as you would with C&D. Mostly.
I immeadetely recognized the music at 0:24. Im just happy that another soul out there enjoyed that amazing game and its music. And if you didnt play the game, i will make you play it.
I always use stock when playing a more urgent gamemode like payload but in a more casual slow paced setting like CTF the shenanigans you can get away with using the Cloak and Dagger are unmatched. My favourite hiding strat with the CaD is to hang out in the room the enemy is spy checking and just follow them around moving into the spots they have already checked. Since small movements use almost no cloak I love just standing in the middle of a populated area making tiny adjustments to where I'm standing so I don't bump an enemy.
I remember having an Engineer so indulged into spychecking me that he didn't even watched his buildings so it was getting destroyed by soldiers, demos and heavys everytime he set up. I even hit him with the red tappe recorder just to annoy him. He switched to Pyro and started spychecking hard but by that time i was already on a Sniper and other Engineer and since i was using YER there wasn't any notification in the killfeed for the Pyro to know if i was still playing Spy.
Tbh I basically use it just like stock except for when I get in a good position for decloaking and then I wait for a push from my team or the enemies to be busy, then I decloak, and go for a play.
Ive also realized that I use the cloak and dagger to be more aggressive when I escape after a stab because I’ll get a stab cloak somewhere nearby and wait for another opportunity instead of just retreating to an ammo or health kit. I’ve basically gotten into a weird playstyle where I get in, get a stab hide, get another stab, and then retreat to my team to heal up and prepare for my next go around.
i always remember objects on maps that nobody knew existed or had any purpose so i played medic a lot and for some reason they didnt see me. i even used a spell on halloween to get on a tree and heal my team but nobody cared to look up.
A hidden benefit of the CND when paired with the yer is that you can disguise while cloaked. While this still saps your entire meter, it doesn't straight up barr you from disguising while cloaked, which can avoid the smoke trail of normal disguising.
This guy is great, also cloak and dagger is hilarious on 2fort (even before the recent Sound Smith video) still really like this guy, coolest spy main I've seen
3:05 as a lazy man who only wears one color once suggested, stairs may in fact alter reality to keep spies safe from anything short of a stray pipe or high sensitivity phlog who sprays randomly in every direction. Nobody checks stairs. Ever. Not even me, a semi-experienced soldier main who is paranoid of everything including my pocket medic.
What I usually do when I run the cloak and dagger is disguise as a teammate until I'm near enemy lines, that way I have a full cloak meter when I'm going to go in.
i have pretty much always used the cloak and dagger over stock, and thats just because i thought the name sounded cooler when i was starting out. now im so stuck to it that stock feels like the unlock instead
Clearly the best use of the Cloak and Dagger is to sit next to the Snipers and constantly swap your disguiises and spam voice lines. "The Sniper is a Spy!" "Yeah nice shootin' there." "Good work comerade!" "Spy among us..." "Mmm mmph!!" "POW! Haha!!"
I would like to point out the the C&D is ever so lightly louder than stock. Not enough to be a downside, but I've had cases where swapping to stock actually screwed with the people who were listening to it.
Now you've made me a bit proud of my knowledge of this tool as I knew most of that stuff... I learned it mostly by staring at the respawn screen and asking myself "how the **** did i end up in that position?". Though I DID learn some stuff from that video (I think if I saw this earlier I would see a bit less respawn screens as I found no CnD guides back then). Keep up the good work!
i once used cloak and dagger to very VERY narrowly sneak past a demoman in 2fort tunnels and backstab him, it was amazing, i was literally practically brushing against him, very slowly moving past
Newbie spy here. Thanks to this series, I got up to speed very quick, but I hadn't watched this video despite mainly using the C&D. But man, I tell you, I was already doing the escape strat of feinting one way, and then doubling around and just stopping in a corner and watching whoever is chasing me run by. It's such a great watch for a more classic stealthy spy playstyle that I've fallen in love with. Hard to believe I'm already getting a few topscore's after only playing for a week XD
Ok I say it: Your channel gonna blow up if you continu/improve your vids because of your editing and MOSTLY because of the way you implement SFM/Gmod parts in your vid !
I used this watch a lot on CTF, but found a use for it on the rest of game modes when the enemy team is spread across all the map and found myself often in situations where I was unable to find a safe spot before I ran out of cloak.
If there's one thing I love using the CaD for, it's being able to get to teleporter entrances on payload maps. Often times the stock watch isn't enough to make it there without getting caught, and once you do get there, you have to be able to see when the coast is clear to sap. There's been many times on maps like Goldrush where me getting that teleporter was the difference-maker for winning the round
I felt I needed it because I was unsure of if I was doing good choises after long moments without times to stop and think of what to do when playing spy, and I'm happy to know that the choise of Cloak and Dagger was a good one.
I haven't played in a few years. But what I do remember is that CaD is great at running in and running away. Using the default cloak I was always almost completley out of cloak when I finally get to a good spot behind the enemy. And always fighting to not run out of cloak when I get caught and have to run away. With the CaD I could make it behind enemy lines at my leisure. And when I get caught, I just prop myself in the right spot and they can never find me. And I swear once they know a spy is around they waste more time looking for me than fighting. It was rather entertaining cuz the team would first begin camping the ammo spawns and I'm usually around watching them wait for it to disappear and it doesn't cuz I don't need it.
one of my fav games to play with the CnD was to go into enemy intel in 2fort, disguise as the engie who was inevitably down there, and just spam voice lines at them from cloak and freak them out while I would just dart around to different corners of the room called it Paranoia
I like the CaD plus Your Eternal Reward (and letranger to reduce penalties). Gets you the chance to get behind enemies and helps you decimate pushes. Heck it even helps if you know where they tend to occur, cuz you can just wait.
2:40 is exactly how I learned to play spy from watching someone , I found out the perfect time to attack is when your team is on siege and they are too busy to spy check XD

It's also a great video!
My favourite part about it is accidentally uncloaking at the wrong time and then running to a corner, but get hit in corner then move around and watch as players go mentally insane as they spycheck places I was while dodging their attack
1:26 the entire enemy team left their position to hunt the most annoying and hated class "Spy".
For a moment the prime purpose of living of the red team is hunt him down!
Spy, one of the most fun to play, but annoying to play against :)
Jontohil2: says l'étranger at 1:39
All of french people that are watching his videos: *Laughing intensifies*
*Happy snorting
BTW, on cp_orange it's VERY useful to wait in the middle capture point
The Cloak and Dagger, L'Etranger and Spy-cicle are a very great combination to get behind enemy lines without getting spotted once.
And if a pyto spots you, the Spy-cicle is a great one use "get out of jail" card. :^)
Defo wouldn't call it "get out of jail free" since you loose your knife, but it's good at getting away from pyros
@@Jontohil2 well at least you do get it back after about 10 seconds of waiting for the pyro to go away
@@Jontohil2 u don't need to stab if u are samwiz1 pacifist spy
Harassing engies
Lol
@@Jontohil2you do realize that even if it IS weak, did you know that the L'ETRANGER IS A GUN.
@@Jontohil2 If you're that close to a Pyro you're probably going to want to wait a bit to go for a backstab on anyone. Something you'd miss out on and be killed for lacking said item.
Unless you're going to exploit natural lag and go for trickstabs it is normally a net positive.
LEAFS! 5:56
To learn the enemies habits, we must know what the enemy is up to. As an engy main, I’ll use this knowledge against spy and maybe if I play him once
Played spy for lols because I'm a heavy main, and now I can't stop beware my friend for playing spy you may be sucked into that dark vortex
4:18 "no pain no gain mfs when i backstab their entire familly (they didint gain anything)"
They gained trauma so they did gain 😊
my first time using the cloak and dagger, i just ran around rhe map
but once the cloak was close to being deader than my great grandmother, i just go to a safe spot and wait for it to recharhe
once its atleast half full, i can run around the map for a small amount of time again
i was able to get 12 backstabs total (i just startes using it)
turns out i did alot of what you pointed out here
i love the cloak and dagger sm
As a cloak and dagger spy, I didn’t start out like the intro. I went “if I tap W, I can technically sneak into the base and get backstabs and have infinite cloak!” I still do that. Also, I use the l’étranger and YER to become the infiltrator
I use the exact same loadout as you: Eltranger, cloakydaggy and YER
I personally like using it it to make a random player go insane while I use voice lines. Specifically disguising as scout and spamming "Need a dispenser here!" (works best on an engie)
I think getting the Cloak and Dagger as one of my first item drops just completely fucked up how I play spy forever, but usually when I play spy I just do it to fuck with people and the C&D is amazing for that
I also find that while I probably can’t land a stab to save my life I can evade a chasing enemy like it’s no big deal
You have a really good taste in music my friend (love that ROR2 OST :D)
It gave me PTSD from those damn flying pests
4:29 “I didn’t see you at camouflage practice today private!” “Thank you sir!”
As soon as I got the Cloak and Dagger, I didn't touch the default watch again. This video taught me a couple new concepts for me to work on. Thanks
Cloak and dagger can also be used in ctf to go from your spawn to the enemy’s intel without decloaking
It's worth noting that the Cloak and Dagger also has a louder decloak than stock, another of those hidden stats Valve added without telling anyone.
So decloaking direxrly behind someone is even less practical.
I recently got away with this against an Engineer by decloaking on top of his dispenser and putting a Spycicle into his spine.
Cloak and Dagger, L’etranger, and stock is an amazing combo.
ill one up you, spicicle, you become even more phycological because of statues, and can escape pyros
1:52 Disguised as Megascatterbomb
The way you visualize these lessons is very helpful
These are fantastic lad, I hope a video about match ups come later, spy vs all classes and how to beat them/ escape from them, similar how uncle Dane did his engineer vs all classes video
My favourite ting to do with the cloak and dagger is to mgs my way into enemy spawn and just be annoying
SPY HAS A GUN?!?!?!?
i just sneak around until im about to "decloak" in which i wait a little bit then sneak more
The C&D is also a great tool to teach people that there's other ways to escape enemies other than just running away.
I’ve basically gotten into a weird playstyle where I get in, get a stab hide, get another stab, and then retreat to my team to heal up and prepare for my next go around.
i always remember objects on maps that nobody knew existed or had any purpose so i played medic a lot and for some reason they didnt see me. i even used a spell on halloween to get on a tree and heal my team but nobody cared to look up.
love the wholesome thing at the end of the video outro :)
Wow, if compared to your previous uploads this one has improved, first of all, the animation, camera work. I like the presence of progression
Underrated? Me who uses it always as a thing to troll and gaslight enemies:
I find it funny how you said you were going to end the vid on the ✨L✨E✨A✨V✨E✨S✨
and not even two seconds later: also SPY HAS A GU-
Clearly the best use of the Cloak and Dagger is to sit next to the Snipers and constantly swap your disguiises and spam voice lines.
"The Sniper is a Spy!"
"Yeah nice shootin' there."
"Good work comerade!"
"Spy among us..."
"Mmm mmph!!"
"POW! Haha!!"
04:10 when I look around there is no one when I decloak everyone suddenly appears
I would like to point out the the C&D is ever so lightly louder than stock. Not enough to be a downside, but I've had cases where swapping to stock actually screwed with the people who were listening to it.
4:40 feels like a lazy purple reference and im here for it
4:19 No pain, no gain.
ow.
You’re so underrated mate. You deserve way more than 20K subs
3:22 a yo the pizza tower reference is here
5:10 a yo the ultra pizza deluxe references here
Yo, this video is good. But your intro sounded a lot like the skit from sound smith’s weapon stereotypes.
If you use the big earner and letranger you basically have infinite cloak
Tbh, I think The YER, and cloak and dagger work well
Now you've made me a bit proud of my knowledge of this tool as I knew most of that stuff... I learned it mostly by staring at the respawn screen and asking myself "how the **** did i end up in that position?". Though I DID learn some stuff from that video (I think if I saw this earlier I would see a bit less respawn screens as I found no CnD guides back then). Keep up the good work!
I love your tutorials! I became a spy main because of you and hope for more vids.
Love you!
i once used cloak and dagger to very VERY narrowly sneak past a demoman in 2fort tunnels and backstab him, it was amazing, i was literally practically brushing against him, very slowly moving past
I almost forgot that spy has a gun, thanks for the outro reminder :D
Finally someone liking it, I use it with the yer as to be able to gain more cloak without outing myself
I have been using this watch for years and absolutely abusing it. It shocks me that nobody noticed how broken it can be
i just like how we can just troll enemies especially engineers
Istg every video this lad makes has Out of Whose Womb Came the Ice? by Chris Christodolou and it just gives me blind pest PTSD
If u crouch u can travel further without needed to stop to regen your cloak.
You did not just put The Ancient Gods soundtrack in the middle of a SPY video 💀
I haven't played in a few years. But what I do remember is that CaD is great at running in and running away. Using the default cloak I was always almost completley out of cloak when I finally get to a good spot behind the enemy. And always fighting to not run out of cloak when I get caught and have to run away.
With the CaD I could make it behind enemy lines at my leisure. And when I get caught, I just prop myself in the right spot and they can never find me. And I swear once they know a spy is around they waste more time looking for me than fighting. It was rather entertaining cuz the team would first begin camping the ammo spawns and I'm usually around watching them wait for it to disappear and it doesn't cuz I don't need it.
one of my fav games to play with the CnD was to go into enemy intel in 2fort, disguise as the engie who was inevitably down there, and just spam voice lines at them from cloak and freak them out while I would just dart around to different corners of the room
called it Paranoia
Another great video. Keep up the great work Jontohil2!
I like the CaD plus Your Eternal Reward (and letranger to reduce penalties). Gets you the chance to get behind enemies and helps you decimate pushes. Heck it even helps if you know where they tend to occur, cuz you can just wait.
Thats my Favorite Watch. Why is that? Answer: President roosevelt used Watch and then he is vanish forever. Body never found it.
2:40 is exactly how I learned to play spy from watching someone , I found out the perfect time to attack is when your team is on siege and they are too busy to spy check XD
