Any time an agency can vote them selves a pay raise. The people paying that raise will suffer, while those getting said pay raise won't even notice the cost of living rising.

You know what would be really nice?
How about giving seniors on CPP the amount of income per year(now averaging $8,424/year)that the back benches and senators are getting(almost $11,000) for a raise.
That would effectively double the annual income for most. After all, during the past two years the same government determined that everyone needed $2,000.00/month just to survive.

He has never had to survive out here like any of us true Canadians. What’s your gas price there? Here in BC we are at 183.9 to 214.9 for regular and about 215.9 to 239.9 for diesel, here in BC we have another idiot running our province and between him and Trudope we pay about $0.74 in tax, that’s $0.38 in provincial tax and the rest goes to the federal tax. We pay the most tax on fuel then anywhere else in Canada.

Those greenhouse gases also make the crops and forage grow better.
Plants strip the C off of the O2. That provides oxygen for people to breath.
So next time you are enjoying you favorite veg you can breathe easier knowing that that food was brought to you by greenhouse gases. Taxes did not do that.

Exactly. And I wonder what kind of Carbon Tax Coca-Cola pays, because those bubbles are C 0 2, just like in many Foods and Beverages. Greenhouse Growers buy tanks of C 0 2 to pump into their greenhouses because as the former head of Greenpeace Patrick Moore is saying, We are experiencing a Dearth of C 0 2 @ 0.004% which makes it a Trace Element.

The Feds always talk about "Net Zero". What is "Net Zero"? Because with net zero right now you basically pay more to the government and emit the same amount of carbon, so is that really helping the environment or the government coffers?

  • @flyingbeaver57

Scored the game in one, Quick Dick! Among life's other sins, I spent over 20 years as an engineer doing research on a) alternate transportation fuels, b) emissions reduction, c) alternate primary (generation) for electricity and alternate (battery/motors/controls) systems for both automobiles and "heavier" applications (e.g. trucks, railroad locomotives, ships engines, aircraft engines . . all of that). We looked at the methods, the initial, operating, and disposal costs for sourcing or using alternate energy. We looked at the materials needed (e.g. lithium), where the raw materials come from, at what cost, and from whom. We also looked at how quickly or slowly a change-over could be made, given that some equipment (locomotives, for instance) has a lifespan typically 40+ years, passenger cars/trucks 15-20 years, and so on. Last but not least, we looked at how the end user's cost for energy (like you mentioned, how much your tractor/drill uses), vs either the income, or percentage of revenue generated. We even found a few improvements along the way - real world - particularly with efficiency and emissions. A percent here, a few there and it does add up. But as you correctly point out, Canada's total contribution to GHG worldwide is less than 2%, and we live in a country where distance and cold are a fact of life. We didn't assume any "shazzam" breakthroughs, but did consider that research often does give better information, or methods. Or not. Sometimes, there's no "better way" than how we're doing it.
Assuming that a) we did not want to kill the economy or destroy the country, and b) that improvements could be exported, the time for "change-over" was never less than 50 years. These estimates also, whenever possible, assumed that changing energy sources and uses had to be affordable, because when they're not, people get really poor and really hungry, or just leave. A. Some of the research was co-funded by government and industry, some by industry. The constraint was that the results had to be "honest" not ideologically driven. In other words, how things are in the real world. I worked with some good people over the years, and looked at facts, not unsupported guesses. There was a lot of large-scale testing.
So I look at this s&&t show, and think, "we know some of the answers. We'll probably find more of them. We've spent the time and money and resources and brains. We tested - real world, "on the road" possible solutions. Published it. Industry picked up and used quite a bit, because cleaner & more efficient both saves and sells. So why do we have politicians who don't even bother with the research they wanted and funded? If we learned about "how to do it right" - why do the opposite? Thanks for making this. You've said it better than anyone.

Many great points, it is really frustrating to live in Saskatchewan and have the federal government making promises that are hard for us to keep. Just to show how hard it is to keep their promises, I installed a solar system on my acreage. I heat with electricity so my power bill was really high. I installed 92 panels on the ground to have a 25 kw system. I did most of the work myself and it still cost about $85,000. It does produce all the power that I need for my house in a year but is grid tied to store the power until I need it. In the last year it produced about 52,000 kwh. That is enough power to seed your crop, but would not leave enough left to do much combining, your crop would rot in your field. There is also a problem with storage of the power, on a great day my system will produce 250 kwh of power. Not sure if that would get your tractor from your yard to the field. In Saskatchewan our government seems to need to get it's share of the profits from my solar power as well. When my contract runs out I will be switched to the new Sask Power program where they will pay me $0.075 per kwh when I over produce, then charge me about $0.175 to get the same kw back after the sun goes down that night. In Saskatchewan, we are the most sunny province in Canada, but our provincial government wants no part helping us use it.

Good morning Ed. Got that right. My brother works for a crane outfit that repairs and builds them. Says quite a few of them are leaking gear box oil onto the ground. Was replacing blades cause guys were shooting them with guns, if it wasn’t for govt subsidies they would never get put up. Very costly and inefficient talking to their operators. Shut down if it’s too windy, shut down to change direction when the wind changes (which up in the mountains happens a lot). Plus the outfit they work for is finding they are only getting a ten year lifespan versus the twenty they are supposed to get on blades and gearboxes.

Great Video again Dick. One other thing people don't realize as well is that solar panels, wind turbines, and nuclear plants are all made from materials such as metal, and concrete that have to be dug up out of the ground the same way as oil and is arguably worse cause you need to make large Quarries to get this stuff out of the ground properly. The metals will also cause pollution in of themselves such as copper and lead are very toxic substances and if you get any run-off into the rivers you'll end up poisoning the nearby towns and whatever other town is further down the river, and that's not including the machines that need fuel and electricity to run them in order to dig all this stuff up. Then there's the fact that Solar panels and wind turbines don't last forever and need to be replaced after a while, and will have to be melted down, How? again heavy machinery that takes oil gas, and/or electricity to run in order to melt the scrap down and reshape it into whatever you desire and when metal heats up to be melted down it makes fumes that pollute the air as well, it's also bad for your health just look up metal fume fever. When you consider all of this "green energy" isn't very green and it's a mislabel it should be called "feel good energy" cause that's all the main goal really is when it comes to this "green energy" stuff.
