How virtuoso Jason (and Marty too) was at very young age, and how sloppy dragonforce are, not so young. Marty friedman is a beast in terms of songwriting playing, and has a fair speed level. I respect Herman Li, but sam totman's playing is just hideous. hes too much trying to keep up with Herman li.
I love how people are bashing Dragonforce for using Van Halen's effects... What sounds good will sound good. Music doesn't always have to be 100% original. It's paying homage and showing respect to your heroes.

I saw DragonForce live twice, and both times, yes, Sam did have some moments where he screwed up but any band of that level of prowess is prone to mistakes. Even Herman admits he's not Superman! Thing is, Sam has what i call 'a sense of humor' and laughs off his mistakes. He doesn't take himself seriously. That's he's not always as spot-on as Herman. Sam at least laughs it off if he makes a mistake. You can't deny he's got chops.
