Saw a guy once with his small sail boat . He fabricate a mast with a 1 1/2" inch X 20ft long galvanize fence pipe . He did the welding on it too and painted it white . About $ 80. bucks in parts and 2 day of free labor . He was very proud of his work and explain it in full detail . He said it was maintenance free and the mast will out live him ! After examining it , I notice this guy knew what he was doing and it look very professional ! There it is people ..... galvanizing fence post has been overlook in many project ! What an amazing idea ! Hats off to all the Ingunity mind at work !
Great video, thinking of making Sunfish mast out of carbon fiber. I'm experienced with WEST Epoxy fiberglass. Love the knowledge imparted in only 3.11! Thank you for posting this very instructional video.
Great video. If you're looking to save some time... Freeman Wax sells uniform wax sheets with an adhesive coating on one side for easy application. I've used it on a couple of mandrels (though not as long as this mast) with great results. Just used a heat gun to melt the wax and remove the carbon fiber.
Basically lay up the carbon. When its gone off. Melt wax to provide space to pull off the mast off the mandrel. Pull off mast... considerably easier to say than do!
