sure thats ok, but when someone comes around who you really like and would like to be with, you wont be able to change your workaholic habits, so you eventually might end up alone again... like a vicious circle...

It's scary how accurate this is. Every single point you discussed applies to me. Whenever you're sleep deprived after 16 or more hours of work a day everyday, wake up in the middle of the night dreaming about school and work, and feel isolated, you really have to figure things out.

You are 💯percent correct!! Workaholics are obesssed with what they can control, to the exclusion of relationships which they can’t control. Or even have no relational skills so they put all emphasis on tangible outcomes. It is a deep psychological issue from childhood. To live with such a person is a nightmare, totally miserable and lonely experience.

I'm here because I think I just experienced a "collapse". I work basically 12 hours everyday as accounting, customer service and human resources including Saturday's when payroll needs to be done. Don't get me wrong, I love being busy and working, it gives me joy, but maybe even so it can take a toll.
Last Friday (payday/I take care of payday) I felt extremely sleepy, unusually so, and had so much things to do and at the same time had to get going to Mexico before 3 pm to a business meeting.
Monday when I was back in the office, I felt this random extreme fatigue but managed to pull through, but today on my way to work I got nauseas, and my head was throbbing and I was struggling to breath properly. So I came back home and called in sick because it was terrible. I slept all morning and woke up until 2 pm with that throbbing head ache, I feel a little bit odd even though I feel better.
Not sure how I can fix this or if it's momentary, I hope it's momentary because I'm not an expandable employee, and I can't afford to miss more days, nor do I want to.

I used to be exactly like you. Conquering project after projects after projects, getting recognitions and trophy, building my own product as side work, neglecting everything in life then wife got cancer and seeing kids grow up without me in their life, put everything in perspective. Started to realize I'm chasing ghost, in the end it doesn't matter. Find the root of problem, which is fear amongst other things. Still struggling with my inner self. still productive but more well balanced now.

Gauss Field I'm trying a new schedule soon, once we're done with our social assessment (getting a new client). I have a membership at 24 hour fitness, and maybe what I can do is workout at 5am, leave at 7, get to work at 8, and when I get home sleep early and use the weekends for leisure. I don't know, maybe gun range or surfing, we'll see.

    • @tsumardi

Great. I applaud for you. I'm an engineer and I used to think about solving work problems all the time even when I'm a sleep, agitated around my kids, agitated when topic of conversation goes to other things outside of work or work politics, work weekends, has the urge to keep moving and can't stay in one job longer than 2 years which is really chronic. As long as you don't think about work all the time anymore 24/7 then it's an improvement in my book. Life definitely needs balance.

Hi, a nice contribution about workaholism! A specific question is a workaholism with women (mothers) - eight hours at work and eight hours at home, it is less visible than sixteen hours at work, but it is the same. And it afflicts the psychics (of the whole family) in the same way as any other addiction.

I’m going through this right now. Fiancé doesn’t even stop to ask me how I’m doing in the mornings, just expects me to have her coffee waiting for her, and when she is finally free it’s sleep and murder mysteries all day. I’m reaching my breaking point with all this. The only time she’s happy is the one trip we do a year then I get this boring roommate the rest of the year. I’m really having a hard time dealing with this. Never thought I’d feel isolated as the man in the relationship. Mind you we work for the same company and both do ot during the week although for her it’s never enough.

I think it depends on the job you have I mean if you work in the factory industry or an office or something like that then only wanting to work is a problem. Now if you have a career in health service, or the Military, or Police or being a lawyer or being a firefighter a job where your serving the greater good and helping people then I would say always wanting to be working is not a bad thing because there you are helping others. So it just depends.

    • @stephaniegalarza7513
      @stephaniegalarza7513 2 роки тому

I agree helping others is beneficial and may feel less like work to some at times, but as someone who has worked in healthcare I feel it is almost more important for those types of people to have that balance. I would not want someone to be making quick life or death decisions if they consistently under sleep and are over stressed. I also feel this applies to police officers etc., we will never know how many lives are unnecessarily lost from the effects of our society encouraging people to overwork.

In my case studying hours on end, since I am in school, but still, the summers I worked normal jobs and have to say, I enjoyed it so very much. I can't wait to get a full-time job after university and dedicate my time to bettering my work ethic and if I am done with work, I will go do my own thing

Sometimes people are workaholics because their official 9-5 job requires them to work 60 hours a week due to management refusing to hire more people. The option is to work 40 hours that you're paid for and watch as more work piles on every week, or work extra every week to be on top of your tasks.
And I know that you are broadcasting from 2017, but in 2022 more and more jobs have become work-from-home. There is no clocking in. It takes great discipline and courage to just sign out around 5 and not worry about work until 9 next morning.

It sounds like break through points in productivity for you happen when you've maxed out your health points stats. Sleep, drink, and food, as well as thoughtfulness to life's joys. Perhaps a workaholic may be the least productive person there given the lack of break throughs on similar conditions, but they otherwise would be the most productive if the business model lacks or nullifies such opportunities for innovation. Others may have the exact opposite where stress and adrenaline allow them to flow most easily. Personally, I find I am most level headed at around 18 hours without sleep, all the while of course thinking about my job and how to be a better employee. Though I would say the exhaustion is quite taxing, and the health issues do build up. I think it's worth it.

This is true. Gary Vaynerchuk for example seems to be a rising motivational guru who is influencing a lot of people. Now I respect this guy but his advice is to work like a dog. He spent about 14 years from 20 on working fourteen to sixteen hours a day and now is a mega millionaire. My question is this : is that really worth it? This week I am advising something to my subscribers which I call "controlled laziness." Because if you want to increase your assets you can learn to invest well and it isn't that hard to manage once you have your strategy. But I'm not a fan of the eighty hour work week. For example, I am a contract physical therapist who can make 100K a year. But if I opened a clinic I could probably double that. And have an extra 30 hours a week running a business. They can have that. And that is my point. You can become successful and still become wealthy with smart investing and not sacrifice your life like Gary V does. You have one spin on earth as far as we know. You want to achieve greatness in all your planes--not just on the time clock. Hope this helps someone out there---Charles.

Dan Peña, the 50 billion dollar man says “There is no such thing as work life balance... NONE!” The only thing I see wrong with workaholics is that they are wasting their time being a low man peon instead of starting their own businesses and climbing the ladder to become a millionaire/billionaire. Every single billionaire is a workaholic. If you have the traits to be so self centered that all you do is work, then you can be rich as well and you should do it. The problem isn’t being a workaholic for most people, the problem is being too much of a pussy to go out there and take greater opportunities and risks. If you love to work, you will absolutely adore running a business. I can tell you this from the personal experience of running a sole proprietorship for a summer when I could not find a job in college because I worked my balls off trying to find contracts, networking, making deals, and completing contracts for money. And I made a lot of money doing it. But, I am not a workaholic myself. I am quite the opposite in fact, so I had no future with my business and got a nice easy proletariat job for good money where I could enjoy my life.

There rules in place at work to keep the hard worker or workaholics grounded balance.
