    This is a replica built from a NAA AT-6 for the movie "Tora Tora Tora". Also starred in "Midway". At the 2014 Salinas Airshow, where it was one of the aircraft flying demonstrations, the crew came by our booth to see the Lockheed PV-2D Harpoon I was with, and conversations were a little difficult, due to the crew's Japanese accents!

    The wings are the wrong shape too but they did all in the world they could with what they had to work with. A good replica.

    I love the plane no matter if it’s a replica. Love so much I built a 1/9 scale Kate by using a FMS1400mm Zero. Has torpedo drop, looks almost as good as this one. It’s history man no matter what side you was on.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸🇬🇧🇯🇵🇳🇴

    Ignoring the title and ending which tells you it's a modified T6 and BT-13, you can tell it's not the real thing due to the aircraft lacking the plain flaps. This one appears to be using a split flap.

    That is not a Nakajima B5N2.
    And it's not a replica. It is a cosmetic modification. A replica is a ground-up exact duplicate.

      It's true, the real B5N had a huge wing. But given that Tora, Tora, Tora was filmed in the pre-computer era, had film-makers have much chance to manufacture authentic Kates in the right numbers? Not one, I emphasise. And not two.

      At the early stage of the Pacific War, the common demerits of both USN's & IJN's torpedo planes were designed to have large fuselage or wings compared to their small engines. Still, the chance to survive in the war fields would be greatly discounted.

      all of the Japanese a/c that fly today, except for several Zeros are replicas made from airframes of trainers like the T-6/SNJ which was used to make the Zeroes for ToraToraTora! The Val was made by modifying a BT13, and the Kates were made by combining a T-6 and Bt-13 frame. There are at least one example of each in museums here in the US and Japan. I think the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg, TX has the wreckage of a Val.

    No protection of the crew at all ? And a small engine. Man you could pepper this with darts. The American planes where slow, but the Americans did want their crews to come back home eventually. What was the engineer og this plane thinking ? Well we have a short cozy war, let us make a toy plane so the crew can fly around and have some fun"

      kate was agile and had self-sealing tanks, so he had more chances of returning home than a zero that was practically naked, that is when escorted by vals or zeros

    • @srcreeper02550
      @srcreeper02550 Рік тому +1

      the defense of the japanese planes is based on the katana, a great weapon for attack, but which for defending its user was terrible. that is, zeros, vals and kates were made to attack and be too agile to hit easily. this worked until 1943, as the experienced pilots were dead and this caused the aircraft not to be used properly. despite this, kate and val sunk many ships during the war and wreaked havoc in pearl harbor.
