- What do you need to know if you are planning on hiking and camping in Norway? In this episode I talk about the Norwegian allemannsretten, "the right to roam". Where can I light a bonfire, where can I pitch a tent, what if I have a dog? I answer all these questions and many more.
Tusen takk, thanks a lot for checking out the episode!

Hei hei! Thanks for watching the video. Let me know if you have any questions about the right to roam in Norway!
Hello Pål, in sept i will be backpacking / wald camping near Furu heim , 135 km north i will end, do i need to worry about bears?
@@falkojael Hei! That sounds like a great trip. You do not have to worry about bears. There are some brown bears in Norway, but they are very rare, and the chance you'll encounter one is very very small. And if so they are shy and not aggressive. God tur!
@@norwaywithpal thank you for you're awnser, so a bear bag would be not needed?
@@falkojael No it would not
That was very interesting and answered some of my questions! Great job, Pal!
Glad to hear that! Thanks for watching Steven
Hi Pal, I must say that if I had discovered your videos before my recent trip to Norway, I probably would have stayed longer. But it doesn't matter, with what I experienced and enjoyed, I understood that I must return and next time with our entire family. I love nature and architecture, so seems to be the perfect place. In addition to touring Oslo for a week, with my wife we did the Rallarvegen bike ride to Flam, and that was amazing. I hope to see in the future some video of yours of that experience. I really enjoy your videos and especially the ones about the way of life in norway. Cheers from Argentina
Hei Matias! Tusen takk for your nice comment, and I'm glad to hear you had such a nice time in Norway. And agree, I really should make one from Rallarvegen! I drove over Hardangervidda last year, but did not have time to do any biking unfortunately. Take care, and I hope you'll make it back to Norway sooner or later :D
Marvelous information! By the way, your English is spectacular.
Thank you Tim! It helps to have a Canadian girlfriend ;)
Flott! Tusen takk for dette. :)
Bare hyggelig :) Takk for at du så på
In Ireland we don't have many natural forests unfortunately...lots of our forests were cut down centuries ago. So here people usually walk in the mountains or land that is publicly accessible.
Thank you for your feedback. Resuming a lot the requirements to hiking.
Any good spot close to Drammen? I'm trying small walkings close to Spirallen. Next step will be a one day camp. Just to be familiar with.
Hello Pål, new subscriber here ... very helpful video! I have been fascinated with Allemannsretten for a while now, and it's nice to learn the relevant rules around it. I will be following your videos in the time to come. Cheers!
Thanks for subscribing! Glad you found the episode helpful 👍
Wonderful, cant wait to visit Norway!
Thanks! I hope you’ll come visit :)
I’m moving to Narvik after 20 years in the UK … I can’t wait!!! 😀😀
Good luck on the move! Enjoy ☺️
Thank you for this information as i am looking at doing a long distance hike in Norway next year July and will be wild camping for around 10 nights.
Hei Deon, glad you found it helpful, and sounds like a good plan with some long distance hiking in Norway. Feel free to ask if you have other questions about allemannsretten (the right to roam) etc
So well crafted and so much additional information. I will make sure to share this for people on my channel as well. Really informative and great additions to the stuff you helped me with. If you can add a link to this video in the pinned comment on my video more people will see it Pål. Great stuff, keep on rocking Captain 👏🏻 Cheers
Thanks Thomas! I will do that :) wishing you a good weekend
Great video, Pål!
Tusen takk Jørn!
Thanks for the great info, Pal. Very helpful.
Hei Dave, glad to hear you found it helpful! Thanks a lot
Thank you for this pertinent information.
You welcome! Thanks for watching
Nice informative video Pål.
Thanks a lot 🙏
I’m heading to Norway soon for hiking and camping. Incidentally, one spot I was considering is the Oslo Kommunes Skoger. I’m in my 60s now and climbing Trollwegen is no longer possible for me. Thank you for the tips.
You would for sure enjoy the Oslo forest! 😅
I did Østmarka, Nordmarka and Grefsenkollen. Ample parking at all three. I used Grefsenkollen as my base camp, I set up my tent at one of the unofficial camping sites near the restaurant. My favourite was Grefsenkollen as the restaurant at the end was a great reward. Living off dehydrated hiking rations gets a little old and the kyling pizza beats the pants off reconstituted chicken and rice any day. The views were amazing, and got to meet a doe with twin fawns my last morning at my campsite. Thanks for the tips, it really made for a memorable trip.
haha some great stories there! I've had that pizza and it's quite tasty@@piobmhor8529
Thank you for the inspiration!
You are welcome 🙏
Hei hei. Glad I discovered your channel. I'm planning a trip to your beautiful country and found your information and videos very helpful. I have so many questions as I just started my research. Won't bother you, but will continue watching your videos and maybe will connect sometime. Cheers
Hei Moussa! Thanks for watching the episode. Cool that you are planning a trip to Norway :)
@@norwaywithpal Thank you. Would be nice to connect while I'm there. I'm also a photographer and do the occasional travel film.
Thank u 🙂
Do u suggest any forestes or lakes for camping for tourists from abroad? Thank u
Wow hiking is the best for the good of our health
It sure is! Very important for our heath
allemannsretten is one of best freedoms.
Sure is!
Thanks very useful information 👍
You welcome! Glad you found it useful :)
awesome!
Wonderful!
Tusen Takk!!
Can we camp near by the road through a road trip ? Any suggestion for lakes or forsets for camping? Thanks 😊
Yes you can camp by the road if you find a suitable place to park. There are so many options for lakes and forests, it depends a bit where is your destination, and you can camp along the way.
Informativ video 👌🙂
Thanks 🙏
@@norwaywithpal 👍
hey, awesome video! ive been wondering, if i camp in a national park, who do i get in touch with to stay for more than 2 days?
Hi there, there is nobody to get in touch with about this. You just have to move your tent/van every second day and you can stay for an unlimited amount of time
@@norwaywithpal alright, thank you! i really appreciate the quick answer on a year old video!
Hi Pal, thx for the Video! When you arrive in Oslo have 11 Days, a Tent and 2 young and fit boys. What would you do? Any Wildcamping area tipps?
Thanks for watching! Are you planning to rent a car, or travel with public transportation out of Oslo?
@@norwaywithpal we are planning to go by public transportation :)
@@philipploudon4600 Hi Philipp, there are many options, but all depending on how fit you are... In the forest around Oslo "Oslomarka" you find miles and miles of hiking paths, lakes ++ Stop by the store of the DNT (Norwegian Trekking Association) in Oslo and they can give you tons of good advice.
For mountain hiking you could take the train to Finse, hike over the mountain and down the Aurlandsdalen (Aurlands valley)

Plenty of good info on hiking here:

I hope this can be of some help. God tur!
Hi Pal! Really useful and nice video! I'm planning my visit trough fjords in April. Will it be too cold in end of April? I'm planning to hike on Skala Mount (1800m) I can't understand if it will be too cold... do you have any tip for me?
Thanks :)
Hey Marcello! Skålatoppen is a great hike, I did it a few years back. April you can never now. It can be sunny and warm, but it can also be snowy and cold up there. To be on the safe side late May might be better for that hike. :)
Hiya. Was that in Grefsenkollen?
Lillomarka :) ikke langt unna
I've found my country :)
hi. can i camp more then 2 days in the forest?
Camp for as long as you want, as long as you move your camp every night ish
Can I drive my car to these places ?
@@EzzTheEngineer yep 👍
@@norwaywithpal any recommendations for places near Oslo that are calm for a self-healing nature hangout and I also wanted to ask if I’ll need to bring my own ashtray to put out cigarettes and cigars in or if there’s any regulations regarding that ?
