  • There's a small community that produces more players for the NFL than anyplace else in America. It isn't in Texas, or Florida or Oklahoma. In fact, it's as far from the foundations of football as you can get.

      michael spencer se ufa!! It is. In 2014 the small island of American Samoa yielded the highest rate of military enlistment of ANY U.S. state or territory. The recruiting station in Pago was ranked 1 out of 885 army recruiting stations. That to me is more astonishing than the number of pro football players that came out of there.

    • @TavaiNT

    • @ContrarianCorner
      @ContrarianCorner 10 років тому +16

      Well said! Actually, nothing worse than ANY human arguing with another human over who is better because of where they were born, what race they are, what gender, religion or class they belong to. This form of "tribalism" is at the root of most wars and evils in the world. It shouldn't matter where we came from since none of us had any choice in the matter. What's wrong with just having pride in being Human?! Then do your best to take care of your fellow humans and the planet we call home.
      How does it make ME a better person because someone in my "tribe" did a great thing last week or 2 thousand years ago? Good for them and perhaps we can all be inspired by their actions. But that has no more to do with me than someone from my "tribe" who did something horrible. Come on my fellow brothers and sisters. Let's stop creating all these artificial divisions. We're all in this together...

    This video is totally accurate. Our people are naturally athletic due to the way of life in the islands - discipline and respect go hand in hand with faith and heart which is the poly way. Although we have our differences (I'm tongan) whenever we play on the field - big, small, barefoot or not - heart goes a long way which evidently shows not just in NFL but Rugby and rugby league (another contact sport without the protective gear). Here in New Zealand/Australia - this major sport is literally filled with polynesians: tongan, samoan, cookie, fijian etc…
    Now lets try hit the books guys! Hope you know what I mean. Respect to all and shout outs to all the tongans, peace

    They are a prideful people that in general work hard. The small group of approx. 65,000 resident of American Samoa to have so many in the NFL is the story, not the individual. Yes there may be lazy Samoans but there are lazy representatives from every race. This small group of people detached from the mainland maintain their culture pride and heritage while fulfilling expectations of greedy selfish money worshipping men. The gentle giant of America Samoa are something to be emulated. the respect honor and commitment to each other family and God is worthy of the story told and I for one appreciate the message.

    FMBHS class of 2001...we would color our helmets with fresh paint the night before a game and see how much helemet paint transfer we could get...sometimes (and this was bad but fun) hits would mean more then points and my high school never won a champlionship my 4 years so hits meant that much more to us lol... high school discipline is old school rules not showing respect is being disrespectful that means brace yourself...so blunt force trauma is in our culture 😆

    Crazy how Samoan people are so big, I have a Samoan friend that is almost the same height as me and in the same grade, He's 6'3-6'4 around 210lbs I'm 6'4-6'6 265lbs , we're both Sophomores that play Varsity Ball at our high school.
    The only difference is that he plays out side line backer and I play Defensive nose and Left guard, they also put me as a running back when we need to a 1st down or a touchdown.

      kevin schwartz Nothing to about Height honestly, if you gain more weight I would say around 205-220 you can potentially demolish anybody. Look at polamalu super small dude compared to most, but one of the heaviest hitters in the NFL probably. I usually never underestimate my opponent unless they're like 4'11 98lbs.
      When I was a Freshman I got trucked by a dude your height probably weighed around 230 though, and lord was he one of the hardest hitting dudes I faced.
      (Note: I was starting Varsity when I was a freshman, point still stands though.)

    Its not a surprise...these ppl are born to play not only football but most contact sports like rugby... Majority of ALL BLACKS are from Samoan and other Poly islanders -- Tonga, Fiji.. Its natural; it runs in their blood...I'm sure if Tonga has the same high school football program in the island it would be the same or even more player than American Samoa. Likewise neighboring island Samoa or independent Samoa... It goes way back from their descendant lineage and their way of life.

    what they don't talk about is why the island is the way it is. Lets start there. The US has drained all the resources it could from the island and left them to do their best on a little bit. Its time to give America Samoa back to Samoa, fuck that shit.

    Damn, sad to see so much "poly" hate between the you people. Really the truth is that we are all part of marginalized groups in the United States. The truth is that the All Blacks made the Haka popular and now even mainland white football teams are trying to do it. It is annoying as hell, but it happened. Also who the hell cares about origins and fighting over it, if our communities are so far behind economically in the US? We can all sit here fighting each other OR we can do the work to make our communities stronger. And before some of you idiots attack - just get your ass out there and work with the community before you start bitching about each other. Just be glad that "Polys" are highlighted because at the end of the day, a win for one group is a win for all!
