- Welcome to my House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 4 Recap/Review! The best episode yet in my opinion!
We're officially at the midway point of the season and judging by this episode, things are going to get even crazier in Westeros!
I'll be doing weekly recaps as the season unfolds where we can pick apart everything that goes down!

I can understand Alicent’s frustration with Aegon but her and Otto have literally taught this boy nothing. It’s like they thought of everything EXCEPT preparing him.
Exactly you all been planning this for YEARS and none of you though to teach him something? I get you want a puppet king but least make him competent.
I agree he acts like a child with too much power and especially without any emotional support. I’m not team green but I they’re not helping anything. They didn’t want Aegon as king Otto just wanted his own blood on the throne.
Me too, I think they spoil him and after blame him for be how he is, he just loose a child to, everyone just assume than the guy have nothing to give and the only thing than he can do, he do and his brother just f him over. I think the same
All of us wanted to see the dragon's dance but it was more than we could expect. Heartbreaking.

As a non-book reader, I saw that Sunfyre never really flies again except to get to Aegon. And I cried the rest of the night 😂😂

I think you failed to mention sth Alicent says to Larys. Something around “ the wishes of Vicerys died with him” which is interesting because she is trying to excuse her putting Aegon in the throne

Im not with Alicent on how she talks to Aegon. She did this to him. She put this upon him ,her and Otto for their own wants. She didnt prepare him and now she belittles him,nah sorry Alicent.

2 days and I’m still crying over meleys and rhaenys and sunfyre😢 this will be forever my cinematography trauma. And then they calling meleys “the traitor dragon” like… what? They have no part on this dude, they do what there rider says
i cried SO hard at that final shot of rhaenys and melys and even analyzing it again makes me misty. they both deserved so much better

Correct me if I’m wrong, but in F&B I thought it was mentioned that Rhaenys and Meleys aided in the Stepstones during that conflict? Maybe it was book canon mixed with show that didn’t really translate when she spoke to Meleys of going to war again.
Also, how would you feel about doing an ASOIAF read-along on here after HotD is wrapped up for the summer? I’ve been itching for a reread and would love your takes!

Unrelated question: is it possible that King Aerys The Mad King was a dreamer who was seeing visions of the long night and that’s why he was saying burn them all?
It’s definitely a possibility! Something shifted in him (duskendale aside, I feel like dreams/visions could have happened too) I think his “burn them all” could very much have a double meaning
Alicent has no agency in her own life because she has never chosen to assert herself. She allowed the men around her to make decisions for her. She then, until Viscerys fell ill, used the little authority she had to belittle her children and Rhaenyra. (I'm conflating the text and the show)
Rhaenyra did not just sit back and allow life to happen to her. I think this is the main reason she hates her.
(& Ser Otto’s) scheming, they never actually prepared Aegon to rule. They also never entertained the idea that Aegon the Pincher would lie down and allow him to rule while he is just a figurehead?!?

I’m so glad we had moments between dragon riders and their dragons but….the end of the episode is just so heartbreaking 😭 Sunfyre seems to be such a sweetheart (the way he was so happy seeing aegon in the pit), the bond between Rhaenys and Meleys is so so good. They knew each other for so long…Rhaenys shared a huge part of her life with her dragon after all :((
Also, I loved the part where Vhagar casually camouflaged in the forest since she’s actually all the shades of green of the trees and leaves , that was very smart.
Aemond (as much as I hate him sometimes) does have a certain bond with Vhagar and loves to ride this enormous dragon.
Vhagar and Meleys were ex besties so it’s even more heartbreaking 😢 Anyways, LOVED your video can’t wait to see the next !!

Another amazing video! It seems to be a Green trait to be willfully blind to the consequences of their impulsive/selfish/foolish actions: Otto (even though I basically rule as Hand, I can’t wait to replace docile and malleable Viserys with the insecure/inmoral/wildly irresponsible Aegon whom I haven’t trained to rule); Alicent (let me tell everyone that the dying, incoherent, milk-of-the-poppy-brain- addled Viserys changed his mind at the last minute and wanted Aegon to be king); Aemond (let me chase my much younger cousin in a raging storm on my gigantic-and-old-battle-seasoned dragon who feels my bloodlust); Aegon (let me take my untrained self and my young, inexperienced, innocent dragon into battle). You can almost hear them say to themselves: what could possibly go wrong?

The part where Daemon sees himself as Aemond made me think that's how he subconsciously feels. Like he is the Aemond on Team Black side of the family, Aemond's hubris and need to be feared and be the " Ideal Targaryen Prince" coincidently like his uncle Daemon 😏 It is what got Luke killed and kinda started the war (or well, not really started the war, but you know what I mean). It made the greens look bad because of kin slaying etc., but then Daemon, trying not to look "weak" himself, similar to how he perceives Viserys and Rhaenera to be, got him to make the same mistake Aemond made with Luke, he did with blood and cheese. Instead of helping their cause, he screwed the pooch. Dragged our girl's name through the mud. Anyway, I think that little moment where he sees himself in Aemond Cosplay is what he works out in his mind.

Would you say that Criston Cole and Aemond were committing treason by communicating on war strategies behind the King’s back? Whom does Cole serve? King Aegon or Prince Aemond? Had it been Joffrey, Crispy’s head might have been on a spike 😂

This Episode is killing me and hearing you talk about it made me cry again. I'm feeling bad for Aegon because he never wanted to be king, everyone was pushing him and now everybody let him down.
And i dont want to talk about the End of the Episode...it makes me cry all over again 😭😭😭😭
I found the ending of the fight was anti climactic with the surprise attack. I do not see any way that Vhagar was flying below the castle out of sight, and Rhaenys didn’t know they were there. My opinion, they should have been locked in fighting each other, and Vhagar gets ahold of Meyles neck. Not just a sneak attack.
I’m gonna assume Rhaenys only knew about Alyn because of rumors during the early years of their marriage
I was heart broken when you see these creatures being abused at the trust of the bonded rider.. this truely saddened me, these creatures are essentially there beautiful, magnificent, loving and caring pets!! So fierce and loyal for the bond that they have with their owners.. seeing sunfyre attacked and screaming in pain and fall like that!! Just like aegon, they both didn’t know what they were entering into, aegon is an owner that didn’t understand what his creature is.. for him not to take his dragon into consideration being how young sunfyre was let alone being drunk!!Rhaenys and meleys just made me so sad that it had to resort to this insane, disturbing and cruel war!! Very traumatic episode for sure!! The dragon riders of old like Rhaenys understood what a dragon is and the bond, meleys was essentially her partner in crime, her refuge.. so sad!! 😞 😢😭
He was ignored by his father AND his mother. If either of them had curbed some of his worst traits as he was going, he might be a better king. Instead, Viserys IGNORED him, and Alicent stoked his hate and ignored his worst actions!

Is it just me or is no one acknowledging that Aemond is a kin slayer because I notice last episode that Rhanerya is called a kin slayer but I haven’t really seen any one say it to him on either side

Seasmoke has been to war in the first season. I know that was probably just for the show and not in the books.
I have been sobbing about Sunfyre :( I’m gutted, the whole interaction as she passes away the connection I’m so sad. Aemond count your f###%% days!!!!!! Tired of him killing dragons 😭
So I am headcanon a bit that perhaps meleys and rhaenys had to defend corlys ships or driftmark from pirates. I know there's no real evidence but I could see it being possible. That or she's considering her patrols of the gullet to be sort of like battle

I really struggle with Aegon because he makes alot of really stupid and selfish decisions but he was also never prepared for this role, he didn't want it initially. And Allicent and Otto didn't prepare him for anything. He tried at first he really did and was promptly shut down by Otto. And then he has to deal with his own issues with not becoming like his father who was "weak" and complacent and didn't really treat him like a beloved son. And then he is unable to actually make any decisions because he is essentially just a pawn and a bloodline and nothing else. Would he make a good king? No. And he makes horrid decisions which absolutely should not be excused. I just I see how he got there but I can't condone his stupidity/selfishness either. I do want to throttle him immensely 😑. Yeah team black always for me.
